eARC: Never Desire a Duke by Lily Dalton

All right, I just finished Never Desire a Duke by Lily Dalton. First off, it's Lily's debut book. I think the best way to describe this book would be Christmas shenanigans. Don't get me wrong the story is cute, but there's a lot going on. Some people may get overwhelmed by that, but I think if you can hang on you might get a kick out of the story.

At the beginning of the story we see how Sophie and Vane (Duke of Claxton) ended up estrange from one another. Granted everyone handles grief differently, and some handle it better than others. Vane finally comes to the conclusion that he wants to fight for his marriage, and figures Christmas is the best time to reconnect with his wife. However, Sophie wants nothing to do with him, but make a baby and be done with him. Yet, Vane is willing to do whatever it takes to get back with his wife, even if it's an uphill battle in the pouring rain he plans to win.

Christmastime is a hectic time a year, so trying to to reconcile with ones spouse can go one or two ways. It could go blissfully wonderful or it can go horribly wrong. Poor Vane, it seems like the world is conspiring against him. Granted it doesn't help that his past is a bit colorful, by the way causes problems in his marriage. See this should be warning to all guys that what you do in the past does affect the future, but who really listens to that type of stuff. Anyway, that isn't the only thing conspiring against him, oh no there's more. Then you compound the problem marriage with being stuck in a place and trying to make the best of the situation.

I always think of Christmas and New Years great time to start over. I believe Vane saw this as his opportunity to make amends with his wife. However, Sophie has a hard time forgiving. Some people my find that off-putting. I did like the story and the chaos I saw. It was a lot of fun, plus having a chaotic christmas just seems to make christmas at my house not too bad. So, if you are looking for a bit of fun that is a little mess, you might want to try Never Desire a Duke.
