Curveball by V.K. Sykes

Yesterday, I finally finished Curveball by V.K. Sykes. I need to say that I enjoyed this story, but I think y'all need to know I'm not a fan of baseball. Never have been, and my husband has told me that it's because I don't understand the game. He might be right on that account. However, I don't see myself learning to understanding the game anytime soon. Yet, I still enjoyed Taylor and Ryan's story.

In the story we have Taylor Paige who loves the game. Seriously, loves baseball, so much so that she ends up as an assistant to the general manager, her dream job. Now she needs to prove herself to the GM that she can do her job, even if she really doesn't have field experience. She gets a brilliant idea (or crazy one depending on who you talk to) to make a trade that could be deem ludicrous.

Ryan Locke is a ballplayer who has been playing in the outfield for sometime, but something isn't right. Now he can't make throws like he use, but is still pretty good at bat. He's hoping for a trade to an AL (American League), so he can just become a DH (designated hitter). Unfortunately, Ryan doesn't get his wish, but ends up playing first base for the Patriots, thanks to Taylor.

I must say I did enjoyed Taylor and Ryan's story. They both love baseball, so much that they have made it their lives one way or another. Taylor is a strong independent person, but at the same time she has her vulnerabilities. Her vulnerabilities lie with her family not being happy with her choice of profession and being in a profession where she is in a minority. Not too many women in the world of baseball. However, she perseveres. Ryan, has a mental block and like most guys can't admit he has a problem and needs help.

So, throughout the story, we see Taylor trying to help Ryan and encourage him seek a professional help. Of course, Ryan has this fear of having the label with getting the help he needs, which jeopardizes his career. Plus, I did like Taylor and Ryan's relationship, which jeopardizes Taylor's career.

Overall, a pretty good read, even if I'm not a baseball fan. So, if you love baseball and hot players, you might like Curveball.

Touch of a Lady by Mia Marlowe

While I was at the gym I decided I wanted to read a novella. So, todays selection is Touch of a Lady by Mia Marlowe. I don't know how many of you have read book three of Touch of Seduction series. If you haven't then this a great start to introduce Delphinia Preston and Tristan Chalcroft Nash, Viscount Edmonstone, heir to the Earl of Devonwood. How their love was form.

I enjoyed that Delphinia isn't your typical heroine. Actually, I wonder if there is a bit of gypsy in her blood. Anyways, she tries to show Tristan there is more things to life than trying to save the family by marrying without love. Yet, Tristan is so stubborn about saving the family. I guess that is an endearing quality in some, then again it can get you into trouble.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. However, I did have to tell myself to breath at times. Even though I knew how it would end, because I did read Touch of a Scoundrel before reading Touch of a Lady. So, if you are looking to start something new and haven't read any of Touch of Seduction stories, I would suggest starting with the novella.

Stroke of Genius by Mia Marlowe

Early today I finished Stroke of Genius by Mia Marlowe. I must that I did enjoy this steamy read. Believe me there are some pretty hot scenes in this story. However, that's not the only reason I liked the story. So, let me share why I like the story.

First off, I'm partial to American heiresses as heroine (not that I'm one, but I just love when Americans cross the pond to stir up trouble. Not intentionally, just happens). Grace Makepeace's mother is hoping that Grace can catch the eye of a titled lord. Cause that's every mothers dream.

Grace's mother figures hiring the exclusive sculptor, Crispin Hawkins, to make a sculptor of Grace's hands will set her off in the eyes of the ton. Silly mothers. However, Crispin desires Grace and he's not sure why. So, there is so much heat between them.

I did enjoy Stroke of Genius for a couple of reason: 1) The chemistry between Grace and Crispin. 2) Who doesn't enjoy an American heiress as a heroine. 3) Surprisingly Crispin does have some morals, but you know they get toss out the window when he has the hots for the heroine. 4) A twist about his heritage. Let me tell you I was surprise.

Overall, Mia Marlowe does have a way with writing witty conversation and hot heroes. Seriously, I love the banter between the hero and heroine. So, if you are looking for a hot hero and an American heiress I would suggest taking a look at Stroke of Genius.

Love's Revenge by Monica Burns

Last night I finished Monica Burn's Love's Revenge. I must say I enjoyed it. The first thought that popped into my head was intriguing and here's why:

Quentin Blackwell, Earl of Devlyn, still feels scorn by the woman he "loved," Eleanor Hamilton, and basically wants to seek revenge on her and her father. When Sophie, Eleanor's half-sister, offers him a way seek his revenge in exchange for him to give her his name. Why not?

It doesn't sound all that intriguing when put so simply, but I forgot to mention she's nine years older than Quentin. Whoa! Seriously, I was blown away by that fact and so was the hero. Actually he didn't believe her at first, because she aged so well. To have genes like that, anyways I'm digressing.

Sophie was trying to look for a way out of her father's house. Honestly who could blame the girl, because her father was a real piece of work. I'm amazed on how well Sophie dealt living with that awful family of hers.

I actually really liked Love's Revenge. Here's why:

1) The heroine your typical young lady, but a spinster. Not the spinsters that are like late 20s to early 30s, but in her 40s. I can honestly say I haven't seen too many stories like that.
2) The hero doesn't have a problem with an older woman. He actually enjoys the company of Sophie. He's willing to stand up for Sophie, since no one else does.
3) I love the fact Quentin would do anything to show Sophie he absolutely loves her.

However, I didn't like Sophie's half-sister and father. They were truly horrible people, but that's what really made the story. That Sophie was able to break free from them and find her true self. Along the way also help Quentin get pass the past.

Overall, it was a enjoyable read that can be done in a sitting if there is nothing pressing. Nothing like revenge to bring to people together. So, if you get a chance to read Love's Revenge, I hope you enjoy it like I did.
