Stripped by Tara Wyatt (Review)

So, I had a chance to finished Stripped by Tara Wyatt. It had a Magic Mike kind of vibe, but with a better plot line. We aren't even going to my thoughts on Magic Mike, but I did liked Stripped. Plus, I'm looking forward to other books in the series.

In The Blue Heat series we basically have these top notch detectives that go undercover to get the bad guys. Makes me think of Law and Order: SVU or Criminal Intent, anyway. However, one of there guys died and the team is dealing with the aftermath. However, they are going to get the bad guy. Which leads us to Sawyer Matthews who wants to get out of his headspace for a night and ends up hooking up with Brooke Simmons who has bad luck with men. Only later to find out that Sawyer is her new partner. To say they had a rough working relationship at first would be an understatement. Yet, they eventually find there groove at work and off the clock.

Like I said we have Sawyer and Brooke, and they are super hot when they finally get together. Seriously, some of the that sexual tension is pretty intense. That alone would make you need a cold shower. At the beginning of the story Sawyer is pretty intense and a dick. Some of the things he does in the story makes you want to slap him. Fortunately, he does get his head out of his ass. Brooke is pretty much kickass kind of girl. She works hard to get where she is today. I admire her for most of the story. It wasn't until the end I wanted to smack the girl, for being a girl. I get why she was so pissed, but I still wanted to smack her.

Basically, Stripped was a much better read than watching Magic Mike. Seriously, the plot is SOOOO much better. If you liked watching Magic Mike then you might enjoyed Stripped, because it had a better plot. Plus, who doesn't love a good cop romance with one of the detectives who goes into an assignment as a stripper. Plus, it's a hot read, if you are looking for a little steam. The beginning is a little slow, but story does progress. Like I said I'm looking forward to more in the series. The next one goes undercover at a school. Fun times there.

Protected By Love by Jennifer Ryan (Review)

Protected By Love is Jennifer Ryan's introduction to her new series Montana Heat. So far we are introduced to Caden Cooke and his brother Beck Cooke, and I'm sure we will get more guys along the way. Anyway, they work for the DEA. In Jennifer previous serious, we saw some drug problems arise, and the Cooke brothers have been slowly introduce to the Montana area. Now they are get their own stories. First up to get his own story is Caden.

Basically his aunt is trying to fix him up with this girl, Mia Martin. However, work gets in the way. His aunt is like dude get your act together or your going to lose the girl that you never had. Sparks fly, and it goes all down hill from there.

Protected By Love is an insta-love. They are thrown together in a very high stress situation, where they are unsure if they are going to get out. I think the story is more of a jumping point to the series. Caden and Mia get a romance, but we are going to bring in that there is more trouble afoot. We see that something is brewing in Montana and it isn't good. Hey Caden and Mia get a happy ever after. It's a pretty good lead in to the series, and I think that's the best way to look at it. The series does seem promising. I'm curious about Beck's story, because in Protected By Love he's not in a good place. Hopefully he gets his head in the game. Overall, a good intro to the Montana Heat series.

Just Another Viscount in Love by Vivienne Lorret (Review)

In the series, Sam has been having a hard time finding a bride. Every time he seems to find the perfect candidate her heart lies with another. Poor Sam, so he's home recuperating and decides to hold a house party.

Now Gemma Desmond has been blacklisted from pretty much everything, because of the crimes of her father. I guess the ton sees her as the apple that hasn't fall far from the tree. Truly heartbreaking, because she's a sweet girl. She doesn't hold much hope, and she's always prepared for the worst case scenario. I adore Gemma, then again I sometimes feel that it's best to prepare for the worst kind of attitude.

Anyway, Just Another Viscount in Love is a sweet story, between Gemma and Sam. Both have an outlook hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. Sam is able to look past of the sins of her father, because he truly believes that Gemma wouldn't be like her father. However, it would have been a pretty boring, short read if they lived happily ever after. Instead we have a few bumps along the way. I mean we have vindictive harpies, father's sin hanging over the shoulders, and that's pretty much it. Overall, it was a pretty good read, and it was nice to see Sam finally find a girl that sticks. If you are in the mood for a guy who has a little bad luck when it comes to ladies, and hoping for a miracle, you might find it in Just Another Viscount in Love.

The Pirate and I by Katharine Ashe (Review)

At the beginning of the month I read The Pirate and I, which happens to be a quick read. We have Esme Astell who heads off to Scotland in hopes of becoming an apprentice to a perfume maker. Now she encounters someone from her past who she thought was dead, Charles Brittle. Basically, Charlie needs Esme nose to find a dog for a person. Along the way they both realize they like one another, and find out they both had a crush on each other. I guess Charlie disappear sometime in The Scoundrel and I, so Esme assumed Charlie was in love with Gabby.

Anyway, quick read for The Pirate and I, and Esme and Charlie find another. So, if you are in need of a quick read you might consider The Pirate and I.

Tasty Book Tours Guest Post + Review + Excerpt + Giveaway: A Study in Scoundrels by Christy Carlyle

Have you ever wonder how to a Scoundrel? Christy has been kind enough to share five tips on how to do this. Lets see what she has to say:

How to Write a Scoundrel in Five Steps by Christy Carlyle

Make him a renegade. Every scoundrel is, in some sense, a renegade. He does not conform to society’s rules. Whether he’s a viscount or a valet, a scoundrel doesn’t give a fig what others think of his outrageous behavior. In fact, he relishes his rebellion and the effect he has on others. To shock a virginal debutante into a blush. To send a society matron searching for her smelling salts. To make a rival livid with disdain. Those are the moments a scoundrel lives for. Even if he’s meant for ultimate redemption (and, of course, he is), a true scoundrel always starts as a rule breaker.

Infuse him with magnetism. A scoundrel must draw you, tantalize you, no matter how much of a rogue he is. A scoundrel should wield a kind of magnetism that’s impossible to deny. A magnetism based on more than his charm, handsome features, and appealing physique, though it helps if he possesses those in spades. Yet even a scarred, flawed scoundrel intrigues the most proper heroine, exuding a charisma that makes her curious enough to look beyond his reputation and bad behavior. When I think of the magnetic scoundrel, Lisa Kleypas’s Derek Craven from Dreaming of You comes to mind. From his first appearance on the page, he exerted a magnetic pull on me, as a reader, and on Sara, the story’s heroine.

Turn up the confidence. Scoundrels rarely regret their sins. At least at first. To be a true scoundrel, a man must revel in his naughtiness for a while. One of the keys to being a successful scoundrel, after all, is acquiring a terrible reputation, and it takes effort to convince everyone around you that you’re an unprincipled man. Part of a scoundrel’s appeal lies in his confidence, whether in his looks, his charm, or some skill that he performs particularly well. And, no, I’m not only thinking of talents in the bedroom. Consider Han Solo, the Star Wars scoundrel we all love. Han may have suspected Leia’s feelings for him, but he knew with absolute certainty that he was one of the best pilots in the galaxy. Confidence is sexy, and scoundrels have plenty.

Dig into his history. He may be the life of the party. Embracing every sin. Indulging every impulse. But the best scoundrels have a history that’s far less about pleasure than their lifestyle would suggest. Often there’s a wound, a trauma, some deeply buried regret that they seek to block out with hedonism and sensual gratification. He can’t escape his past, of course, no matter how much he carouses. My hero, Jasper Grey, in A Study in Scoundrels has never quite gotten past the death of his brother. His guilt is what drives him to overindulge and embrace his role as a scoundrel.

Give him a formidable challenge. Every hero is presented with a challenge. Part of the appeal of a scoundrel is that he usually faces provocation with gusto. Whether he schemes to avoid marriage, or attempts to outwit a clever heroine, a scoundrel never backs down from a dare. Challenge intrigues him, excites him. Probably because his overconfidence convinces him he’ll always emerge the victor. Of course, a challenge often alters the scoundrel in ways he doesn’t expect, especially if confrontation comes in the form of a fierce, smart, determined heroine who strips away his seductive veneer and digs deep enough to unearth the man inside.

FIVE BET'S TO MAKE WHEN MARRYING A RAKE

Bet #2

Enjoy Your Dance with a Rake

Every rake has his tried and true methods for capturing a woman’s interest. Some may come by charm naturally, but the dance of wooing a woman takes effort and determination. There are books that advise men how best to approach a lady and what to do to appeal to women. Believe me, ladies, it’s no coincidence that rakes are some of the most charming and appealing men you’ll ever meet. Many speak of a woman’s wiles, but rakes have mastered the art of seduction. Worst of all, they expect every lady to fall for their lures. Yet, have you ever found that a rake quickly loses interest in a lady who responds to his flirtation too easily?

I suggest you, ladies, refrain from doing so. Enjoy the dance. If a rake is set on wooing you, and you are set on allowing him to do so, then enjoy every step. Accept his offer to sweep you across a ballroom now and then, and allow yourself to acknowledge a compliment here and there. Test his techniques until he’s exhausted all of his practiced methods and is left to appeal to you by revealing his true nature. You just might find that your rake is a man of substance underneath all of that gloss.

Tasty Book Tours Q&A + Review + Giveaway: Serving Trouble by Sara Jane Stone

Q&A for Sara Jane Stone

The Second Shot series is your second with Avon Books, what is your favorite part about starting a new series?  (The character development?  World Building?  Etc.)

SJS: First, let me just say that I love writing sexy stories set in timber country. And I’m so thankful that Avon allows me to follow the characters and find the story. The first book in a new series always sets the tone for the series. And it never leads where I initially expected. That certainly held true for the Second Shot series. I didn’t anticipate the suspense element until Caroline walked into the story.

To be honest, I don’t develop my characters. They just walk into my imagination and start talking. And the story unfolds around them. I’ve tried following strict outlines. But in general, I prefer to follow the characters. They show me their world.

(And wow, reading over that, it sounds a little crazy. As if I’m sitting at home talking to imaginary people all day . . .)

You have written romances in small towns and in large cities, do you have a favorite setting for a series?  Do you find one easier to write, or more fun?

SJS: I love writing series set in Oregon Timber country. Both the Independence Falls books and the Second Shot stories are set in small towns that share many similarities with where my husband grew up. This part of this country is completely different from where I was raised in southern Florida. The first time I visited Oregon I walked away in awe of the land’s natural beauty. I’m also fascinated by the timber industry.

And no, one is not easier or more fun to write. The easiest story is always the one I’m revising. And that one tends to be the most fun too. Until the next one hits that phase of the processJ

Noah and Josie have quite the abrupt ending to their secret rendezvous in RUNNING WILD, the free novella which kicks off the Second Shot series.  Did you know ahead of time that they were going to be former lovers or did that "event" take shape after you began writing SERVING TROUBLE?

SJS: I knew from the beginning that this couple would be former lovers. I’ve wanted to write Josie Fairmore’s story the past four years. She’s a character who walked into my imagination before I sold my first book and never left. But it took a while to find her perfect hero.

Most of my stories feature military heroes or heroines. With the Second Shot series, I wanted to write about couples that met before the hero joined the armed forces and continued when he returned. I truly believe that time and life experiences change people. And sometimes it allows for a second chance at loveJ

Did you have to do any special research on the "Mechanical Bull Ride Scene"? (hee hee)

Tasty Book Tours Guest Post + Excerpt + Giveaway: The Earl Next Door by Charis Michaels

Charis Top Five Favorite Historical Romances

Oh, I do love a good Top Five. I could probably go all night naming top-five lists.  Top-five favorite films.  Top-five favorite television shows.  Top-five television episodes. Favorite foods (don’t get me started).  Shops.  Websites.  The list of lists goes on and on.
But I especially love talking about my top-five favorite historical romances.  Few conversations better indicate what resonates with me as a writer and a reader.  This is a list that easily falls on my Top-Five Favorite…well, Top-Five lists.
I found it difficult to limit it to just five, but I forced myself to winnow it down.  It gives me great pleasure to share it, and I hope to hear some comments about these books or your own top five.
Ahem.  Here they are.  In reverse order.
