This Weeks Selection:

A Date at the Altar by Cathy Maxwell
Publisher: Avon (Oct 2016)
Series: Marrying the Duke, 3
Genre: Historical

Blurb:

New York Times bestselling author Cathy Maxwell’s glittering Marrying the Duke series continues—Twice he has been close to the altar and still no duchess.

Will the third time be the charm? A duke can’t marry just anyone. His wife must be of good family, be fertile, be young. Struggling playwright Sarah Pettijohn is absolutely the last woman Gavin Whitridge, Duke of Baynton, would ever fall in love with.

She is an actress, born on the wrong side of the blanket, and always challenges his ducal authority. She never hesitates to tell him what she thinks.

However, there is something about her that stirs his blood . . . which makes her perfect for a bargain he has in mind: In exchange for backing her play, he wants Sarah to teach him about love.

And he, in turn, has a few things to teach her about men . . .

Worked Up by Tessa Bailey (Review)

Okay, Tessa Bailey is like the go to girl for dirty talking heroes, but she has a secret she has a punny heroine. Oh yes, Samantha Waverly is punny. She can crack some cheesetastic jokes, and they are cheesetastic. You can find them all over Worked Up. If you have been keeping up with the series you would remember Duke Crawford has a house full of women, and to find a moments of piece is a little hard. However, he's willing to add another woman to the mix.

These two are completely adorable. You have Duke who is a mans-man. He's not the typical guy you would find in a romance novel, but normal. The cover guy should have a little more hair on him, oh well. Anyway, what he lacks in the beauty department he makes up in the caring. He definitely has a heart, and he has a soft spot for all those around him. However, I think that is a secret. Samantha is too cute with her bad jokes and wanting to please her step-brother. Deep down she wants someone to care for her.

Yes, Worked Up has some steamy scenes, but these two are cute. I never thought I would use cute in a review for a Tessa book, but there you go. I think it has to do with Samantha tries to be funny, and Duke is smitten by her. Overall, had a good time reading Worked Up, and yes I did get a choked up in the book. Those who are a fan of Tessa's work will find enjoyment in Worked Up.

Once Upon a Moonlit Night by Elizabeth Hoyt (Review)

Now if you have read Duke of Sin you would remember Miss Hippolyta Royle had to make a harrowing escape from the Duke of Montgomery. Once she left in the dead of night, we didn't know what happen to her. Oh dear. Now we have her harrowing adventure in Once Upon a Moonlit Night.

Poor Hippolyta it's truly not her week, especially when she comes across Mr. Matthew Mortimer. He believes her to be a run away maid girl or worse. Technically, she's running away. We get to watch these two interact between one another. I feel bad for Hippolyta for her circumstances, but she's a strong person. When Matthew isn't acting like jerk, he's actually sweet and kind, and easy to fall in love. He redeems himself during the book.

Overall, Once Upon a Moonlit Night gives you closer on Hippotyla's part in Duke of Sin. It's great to see her get a happy ending, because she needed a happy ending. I mean she had someone trying to blackmail her, she deserved happiness. Elizabeth does a wonderful job with this story. Yes, the story is super quick read, but it's nice to know what happen to Hippotyla. If you have been wondering what happen to her, Once Upon a Moonlight Night will give you the closer you so need for her.

Meat by Opal Carew (Review)

Okay, I read this because I saw the cover and said, "Yes, please." Didn't read the blurb, but I had to read it cause of the cover and the title intrigued me. Anyway, I liked Meat. It was a fairly quick read with hot scenes. However, there were a few things that didn't work for me. For instance, the BDSM part of the story. I don't mind that actually, I just couldn't do it. Cause Rex had Rebecca call him Master instead of sir. I know that it's minor and it probably shouldn't bother me, but I couldn't help giggling. Here's why: when I ever hear a character call another character master I think of a mad scientist and there lackey. Especially when the lackey goes "Yes, master, right away master." I would probably liked sir more. Oh well, that's me. The other thing was his size of his meat. I truly tried to imagine how big the thing was, because I know a woman vagina can get big enough to push out a baby. So, the idea that he was that big is kind of crazy. I was kind of disappoint with the ending, because I totally wanted them to confront the person, but hey it's a short story. Those were my issues with Meat.

Other than that I did like the story. It is a quick read that can be done in a day. Once I got pass my issues, I did like the Rebecca and Rex together. They are hot and a cold shower moments. I think Meat could have benefit from being a little longer, but it is what it is. At the end of the day, I still liked the story. Yes, there is a little drama, but by the end it all works out. Will I give Opal Carew another go, absolutely. She can definitely write some hot and bother scenes that get a girl going.

Dangerous Protector by Katie Reus (Review)

I finished Dangerous Protector by Katie Reus. I liked this story, and like the previous Red Stone books we are off with a little danger, suspense, and a dash of love. Unlike the stories I have read (since I have them all) we are introduce with a single father who was burned by his ex, and he isn't too keen on the idea of love again. However, Aaron has been lusting after Tegan for a while. When her life becomes in danger his protective instincts kick, while her instincts tell her to run.

Overall, Dangerous Protector is a quick read. Yes, it has the danger, suspense, and romance. You have these two characters that are interest in one another, but they have personal issues that prevent them want to pursue more than fun. Aaron's son is adorable and Tegan's dog is pretty awesome. One of my favorite endings I have read in Katie's book, super sweet I even leaked out a drop of liquid.

Responsibility knocks, and a reckless, hedonistic man responds and opens the door to love—thus is a daredevil snared.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Laurens brings you the third installment in THE ADVENTURERS QUARTET, continuing the drama of Regency-era high seas adventure, laced with a mystery shrouded in the heat of tropical jungles, and spiced with the passionate romances of four couples and their unexpected journeys into love.

Captain Caleb Frobisher, hedonistic youngest son of a seafaring dynasty, wants to be taken seriously by his family, and understands he has to prove himself sufficiently reformed. When opportunity strikes, he seizes the next leg of the covert mission his brothers have been pursuing and sails to Freetown. His actions are decisive, and he completes the mission’s next stage—but responsibility, once exercised, has taken root, and he remains in the jungle to guard the captives whose rescue is the mission’s ultimate goal.

Katherine Fortescue has fled the life of poverty her wastrel father had bequeathed her and come to Freetown as a governess, only to be kidnapped and put to work overseeing a child workforce at a mine. She and the other captured adults understand that their lives are limited by the life of the mine. Guarded by well-armed and well-trained mercenaries, the captives have been searching for some means of escape, but in vain. Then Katherine meets a handsome man—a captain—in the jungle, and he and his crew bring the sweet promise of rescue.

The sadistic mercenary captain who runs the mine has other ideas, but Caleb’s true strength lies in extracting advantage from adversity, and through the clashes that follow, he matures into the leader of men he was always destined to be. The sort of man Katherine can trust—with her body, with her life. With her love.

The first voyage is one of exploration, the second one of discovery. The third journey brings maturity, while the fourth is a voyage of second chances. Continue the journey and follow the adventure, the mystery, and the romances to the dramatic end.

Back in April Romance Times had there big convention where Readers, Bloggers, and Writers get together and meet. I hear it's big ol' hoopla of fun. One day I will get there. Now this week is another big ol' hoopla for writers for RWA (Romance Writers of America). For those who are maybe want to or are a writer, it's a good time. At least that's what I hear. There is another chance for readers and bloggers to meet writers. Super fun, and I wish I could be there. With all these conventions comes swag. Yes, the thing we want to scream "YES, I WANT THAT!" After these shindigs comes the giveaways, and everyone wants a chance to win something from these conventions. The excitement.

Now my question would what is your personal favorite swag:

Learning to Ride by Erin Knightley (Review)

A couple of days ago, I read Learning to Ride by Erin Knightley, which is part of James Patterson's new line Book Shots. Basically, this is line is a quick read that could be done in less than a day. The book is fairly short. So, you are looking for a fast read that you might consider looking to Book Shots. I would compare the Book Shots Flame line more along the lines of Harlequin Romance line. If you tend to like those you might give this try.

Now Learning to Ride is a super quick read about this big city girl going out in west for a job. She hooks up with town cowboy stud. Big city girl meets small town star. Madeline was an all right character. I could see why she was in culture shock when she went to this small town Texas, stands out like a sore thumb. There were somethings I didn't like about her character, like how she insinuated that Tanner had never been to a big city. Granted he's from a small town, but he was on the rodeo circuit and made a name for himself. He would have been to a big city. Minor issues.

If you are looking for something to fly through, Learning to Ride would be your kind of read. Madeline and Tanner are polar opposites, but they seem to suit each other. You won't find anything too heavy or are overburden, but sweet. Intimate situation are definitely behind closes doors, you won't see something more than kissing in public. Clean read. Saddle up with Learning to Ride if this sounds like your read.

Chasing Lady Amelia by Maya Rodale (Review)

I have been hearing a lot of mix reviews on Chasing Lady Amelia, so I wasn't sure I wanted to read. However, I did like this book. It was a cute read. You have the impulsive Lady Amelia who has no desire to a delicate english lady, so she decides to have one day of freedom once she's free. You know how well that goes over with the English. That American hoyden can't she become English like a good respectable girl. HA! I actually like Amelia, she's so American.

She stumbles upon Alistair. Basically, Alistair is order to marry the American hoyden. I feel bad for Alistair, because he takes a lot responsibility for his actions. He's trying to win the affections of his uncle who hates him. He tries to be the heir that he's not. It takes him majority of the book to learn about himself.

Like I said I liked Chasing Lady Amelia. I had fun watching these get to know each in a course of the day, and once the day is over see if what they have is real. However, truths are reveal and might cause a stir among the family. Chasing Lady Amelia and Lady Bridget's Diary take place at the same time, so you might see same events in through different eyes. Those who have seen Roman Holiday might enjoy Chasing Lady Amelia. Now I better go, because I have a movie to see.

Love stories are universal. Love stories are powerful. And so are the women who write them.

Love Between the Covers is the fascinating story of the vast, funny, and savvy female community that has built a powerhouse industry sharing love stories. Romance fiction is sold in 34 languages on six continents, and the genre grosses more than a billion dollars a year -- outselling mystery, sci-fi, and fantasy combined. Yet the millions of voracious women (and sometimes men) who read, write, and love romance novels have remained oddly invisible. Until now.

For three years, we follow the lives of five very diverse published romance authors and one unpublished newbie as they build their businesses, find and lose loved ones, cope with a tsunami of change in publishing, and earn a living doing what they love—while empowering others to do the same. Romance authors have built a fandom unlike all others, a global sisterhood where authors know their readers personally and help them become writers themselves. During the three years we’ve been shooting Love Between the Covers, we have witnessed the biggest power shift that has taken place in the publishing industry over the last 200 years. And it’s the romance authors who are on the front lines, pioneering new ways to survive and build communities in this rapidly changing environment.

Audiobook: Dreaming a Little Dream by Susan Elizabeth Phillips (Review)

Road trips are great way to listen to books, but I would recommend listening to Dream a Little Dream on a road trip. Not that it was bad. No, it was a great story, but boy did it bring on the ugly cry. I mean the one where you will use anything that is soft to stop the tears. Fortunately, I happen to have a box of tissue in my car and I manage to keep the tears at bay, not very well.

At the beginning of Dream a Little Dream we meet Rachel Stone aka Widow Snopes. Now her dead husband did shady things, and she has to live with the consequences of his actions. Everyone believes she's this awful person, so she has to prove to everyone she's not the person they saw on TV. However, that is hard when no one is willing to give her a chance.

Anyway, the good people of Salvation, North Carolina are horrible people. At times I would be like scream you are hypocrites, because they talk about being followers of Christ and then they treated her like dirt. Fortunately there were a couple people that saw she wasn't the devil incarnated, like Gabe and Kristy.

Gabe has some serious issues. He has the hots for Rachel, but there is the issue of her child. It stems that he can never has his family again, so he doesn't want another family. This is a struggle for Rachel, because she's falling for Gabe; however, her priority is her son. Through most of the book, Gabe is thought to be a block of ice that slowly melts. I mean what Rachel goes through, she doesn't give up on life.

I do like the secondary love story between Ethan and Kristy. Kristy is so in love with Ethan, but all he can see is the big busty women. Bad preacher. LOL. So, when Kristy changes her appearance he lose it his s***, and he can't handle it. He has to face facts that he needs Kristy in life and she's absolutely perfect for him.

Wouldn't recommend this book for a long car ride cause the tears were streaming down the face. However, Susan Elizabeth Phillips does an amazing job with making me have the feelies for this story. Adore Rachel and her inner strength to conquer the past. She's truly a good person, even when no one believes her to be one. I also love how she exacts revenge on Cal and Ethan in the end. That was awesome. I like how Gabe comes to realize that he can love again after tragedy. Overall, a pretty darn good story. If you are in a need of a good cry, Dream a Little Dream is a go to read.
