Barefoot in the Sand by Roxanne St. Claire

All right, I just finished Barefoot in the Sand by Roxanne St. Claire. I really liked this story. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I could relate to the story; not my life, but my friends life. This would be the book to launch the this is the Barefoot series.

Barefoot in the Sand is where we meet Lacey, Jocelyn, Zoe, and Tessa. They have been best friends since college. They all come together after a hurricane tares through Barefoot Bay. Very devastating event leaving Lacey and her daughter homeless, but willing to make a dream come true. The friends pull together to help Lacey make these dreams a reality.

Clay Walker sees an opportunity to get the experience he needs to make his dream of being an architect come true. All he needs is a chance to prove himself. He might be able to get that chance with Lacey.

As I said I liked this book. I think a lot has to do with the story really reminded me of my friends life in so many ways. I think when you can relate to a story, it makes the story better. There's a lot of layers that go into this book, so a person may get overwhelm with all the information present. However, I think all the layers really make the story a little more real. Sometimes life isn't like a cookie cutter where every cookie is perfect. Even they we may want it to be, but that would be just boring.

I really like the different relationships that are in this story and they really make the story come to life. We have the relationship with Lacey and her friends, Lacey and Clay, Lacey with her daughter,  and Lacey with her ex-boyfriend. These relationships make the foundation of the story. Plus, in one way or another they intergrade with one another. Real life relationships tend to intergrade with one another and this is the reason I really liked this story.

The bottom line is: It's a pretty darn good book. Really worth the read to see how friends pull together when the going gets tough. I can't wait to read the other girls stories (except Jocelyn since I have already her story). If you are looking for some beach time and no where near a beach, you might want to checkout Barefoot in the Sand.

eARC: Summer in Napa by Marina Adair

Saturday, I finished reading Summer in Napa by Marina Adair. It's book two in St. Helena Vineyard. I actually reading the St. Helena Vineyard books for a couple reason. However, the main reason it gives me a taste of home. Granted I didn't grow up in Napa, but a little further south. However, Ms. Adair does make mention to my home area in her book. However, we are focusing our attention on Napa Valley in the summer time.

Alexis Moreau (Lexie) always had dreams to create a bistro in her hometown of St. Helena. However, she put those dreams on hold when she ran off to New York chasing after Jeff. Now returning to home with her life in shambles needing a fresh start after her divorce from Jeff. Somehow, Jeff still has a hold on her. Those darn divorces can be a tad bit tricky. Stuck in the middle of Jeff and Lexie is Marco DeLuca.

It's always hard being friends to both parties when a divorce happens. Even more so when you have a crush on your best friends ex-wife. Marco has always had feelings for Lexie, but always put his feelings on the back burner in the name of friendship.

I must say I enjoyed Summer in Napa. Honestly, I do like fake relationships, because they always end up being more work than a real relationship. However, Marco and Lexie have to learn the hard way. Marco has always had feelings for Lexie, but always allowed his friend to have her. How things would have been different for Lexie if Marco had stepped up to Jeff in the first place.

Not only are they dealing with the fake relationship, but the family that comes along with it. Marco has a big family that has their noses into everyone else business. Of course, St. Helena wouldn't be same without the meddlesome trio: ChiChi, Pricilla, and Lucinda. I really do think they make the story, because they are always there. Somehow they mange to get what they really want. I can't wait to see what these trio have up their selves next.

Overall a good read with lots of family drama. Some good and some bad. No matter what, love finding its way to right people. So, if you are looking for a fake relationship with busybody family members, you might want to checkout Summer in Napa.

Miss Spencer Rides Astride by Sydney Alexander

Good evening everyone. I just finished Miss Spencer Rides Astride by Sydney Alexander. Which I believe is her debut novel and a nice read. Let me explain:

First off we have a future earl, William Archwood, running off trying to escape his betrothal. He can't even stand the girl. Lady Violleta deLacey is described as flighty and plump. He figures he can run from his problems. What better place to escape those problems than to travel to Ireland. Yes, I guess he was feeling the luck of the Irish. It's amazing how running away can always create more problems. While in Ireland he becomes Mr. Archer and starts to fall for Miss Grainne Spencer.

Grainne isn't your typical lass. Oh no, she would be classified as a tomboy in our day. Quite scandalous how she runs around the stables in men breeches. Since William is there to take her place she is to return to the home to pursue lady qualities, she comes up with a hair-brain scheme to run away with the gypsies. Which she should never trust, but she's trying to escape a fate worse than death.

Ok, my thoughts: First off I saw a lot of potential for this story. I mean the plot actually sounds like a lot of fun. When I said it was nice, I mean it was nice. There isn't a lot of conflict and the little conflict there was just seem to manage to work itself out. I think if William and Grainne were able to butt-heads a little more I think it would have giving more to the story.

As I said it's a nice story and I liked it. I must say it was written well, but I wish there was a little more drama to the story. Which I believe would have helped the story move a little faster. Here's the bottom line: If you are looking for a sweet read with little conflict, you will enjoy Miss Spencer Rides Astride.

eARC: The Devil's Pearl by Jennifer Haymore

One more novella before I hit the sack. I got a chance to checkout Jennifer Haymore's new novella which is part of her new series House of Trent. I'm not sure how this is all going to play out into the new series, but I bet it will all be answer one day. Until then I will bring you The Devil's Pearl. I'm just going to dive into my thoughts:

First off, this story stems from a huge misunderstanding between Julia Beaumont and Sir Devlin Vaughn. Let's be honest, communication is the key that will solve a lot of problems. However, if they didn't have a communication problem we wouldn't have this novella.

The main reason they have a communication break down is Devlin isn't good with words. Instead using words, he used trinkets and baubles. The women who like trinkets and baubles instead of words are mistresses, and Julia didn't want to be a mistress. So, the best thing to do is run away. How does running away solve any problems? It never does.

You gotta love misunderstandings (only in a book, because in real life they suck), because they make the most interesting reads. This whole novella focuses on there perpetual misunderstanding between Devlin and Julia. I like this story, and I wonder how Julia and Devlin will play out in the series. I can't wait to see what happens with House of Trent. Looking for a quick read full of misunderstanding, but still get a happy ending you might want to consider The Devil's Pearl. I hope that I can avoid my own misunderstandings.

Sexy in a Bottle by Andrea Laurence

What would you do if you happen to find an unconscious naked man in your area? Would you automatic assume he was Djinn or genie? Probably not.

Well, Valerie Thomas just happens to stumble upon a naked unconscious man. Just thinking he just washed up on shore from the in coming nor'easter. Now Rajan needs to convince her to believe he's a Djinn and get her to make some wishes.

I actually liked Andrea Laurence's new novella Sexy in a Bottle. For one thing who wouldn't want a sexy Djinn granting them at least three wishes. I love how Ms. Laurence didn't go the traditional way as genie in a lamp, but in a sapphire amulet. For one thing, that makes it unique.

I actually like how Valerie imposes her own self exile. I think that makes it a lot easier for Raj and her to get to know each other. I think it's a wonderful quick read that anyone who is looking for a sexy genie might enjoy. Bottom line is: If you are looking for a little magic, you might want to give Sexy in a Bottle a try. Who knows you might get lucky and find your own genie? I haven't yet, but there is always tomorrow, right?

eARC: Heart of the Jaguar by Katie Reus

This morning I got a chance to read Katie Reus soon to be latest novella Heart of the Jaguar. Since this a novella, I'm not going to bore you with my personal synopsis of the story. However, I will share my thoughts.

Overall, I liked the story. I love the magnetism between Cindy and Elias. Both of them felt this pull towards one another even though they are different shifters. I guess when you find your mate, it doesn't matter if they are different type of shifter.  I enjoyed the fact that Cindy was trying to fight the pull to be with Elias, because she thought she what was best for the both of them. I love Elias, because he didn't care about her one flaw. He loved her no matter what.

Plus, I like the sense there was danger among them. Even though they are both shifters, they aren't complete invincible to some dangers. As I said I enjoyed this story. Now I need to go back and read the others. So, if you are looking for a quick read with a hint of danger and shifters, you might want like to read Heart of the Jaguar.

eARC: Lady Vivian Defies a Duke by Samantha Grace

For the past few days I have been reading Samantha Grace's soon to be new release, Lady Vivian Defies a Duke. I must say I thought this story was cute. So, lets see why:

Lady Vivian Worth is a precocious young lady. She has a penchant for finding trouble. Hence the reason her brother was in negotiations with Luke's father for a marriage agreement.

Lucas Forest, the new Duke of Foxhaven, has no designs to tie himself down at this time. So, he figures he could talk to Lady Vivian and break-off the agreement. Of course, it doesn't workout the way he plan, which begins the merry adventure.

I really like Vivian. I thought she was a lot fun. Let's be honest, she's a hoyden. She has no notions of what a proper young lady should do. Honestly, I have a soft spot for young women like Vivian. I love her innocence of her understanding of the world and at the same time has been hurt by hoyden behavior.

Luke. He has no desire of being the Duke, yet has no choice. At first, I wasn't sure about Luke. He's a likable guy, but he wanted to get away from his duty. However, I love how he starts to discover who he is with the help of Vivian. At the same time, Vivian is clueless that she is even help Luke realize he needs to stay in the country.

Honestly, Lady Vivian Defies a Duke put a smile on my face. As I said it's a cute story, and it's truly is a cute story. I think what makes it cute is Vivian. She's just adorable with her hoyden behavior. I think the best way to describe this story is "Every day is new... One must simply look for adventure to find it." So, if you are looking for an adventure, you might find one with Lady Vivian Defies a Duke. You never know what kind of trouble Vivian will cook up.

Seducing Charlotte by Diana Quincy

First off, I should have finished Seducing Charlotte last night. However, sleep was calling my name and two late nights in a row would not do me any good. Yet, I really wanted to finished this book last night, because it was amazing! Seriously!

First off I loved the heroine Charlotte Livingston for a few reason: 1) Blue-stocking girl who cares about what is going on in her surroundings other than batting her eyelashes and acting coquette. 2) She has interest the beginnings of the industrial revolution (granted it was really coined yet, but you see the beginnings of what we would call the Industrial Revolution).
3) Not going to play the simpering miss because a Marquess has shown some interest in her.
Love heroines with a backbone. They tend to make the story more interesting.

Arthur Stanhope, Marquess of Camryn is not your typical Lord. He knows times the are changing and he has gotten his hands a tad bit dirty being an industrialist.

Love these two characters, because they bring a spice to the story. Especially, when you have a reformist and an industrialist, you wonder how are they going to get together? With their heat and passion they are perfect match for each. Plus, I love Cam, and his plan to make Charlotte his. However, he does get a bit jealous of Nathan Fuller and the attention Charlotte pays to him.

Here's the bottom line: LOVE SEDUCING CHARLOTTE! Yes, I'm shouting. I love the fast pace of the story and the tension between Charlotte and Cam. I really like how Charlotte puts others before her needs which is the key to the tension between Cam and her. So, if you are looking for hero who isn't your conventional lord and a heroine who sticks up for others, you might want to consider reading Seducing Charlotte.

Seriously, love this book and can't wait to see what Ms. Quincy will come up with next. Especially, since Cam does have brothers. I wonder if they will find love. Hmm.

Deep Autumn Heat by Elisabeth Barrett

Saturday I started Deep Autumn Heat by Elisabeth Barrett and finished it yesterday. I have to say that I liked this book. I mean it's a nice start for a debut book and a good start for a new series.

Today we are visiting Star Harbor. In this story we meet the Grayson brothers, but we are focusing our attention on Sebastian Grayson. Seb is a renowned chef who has been around the world and known for his womanizing ways. Yet, he is willing to put away his womanizing ways when he gets a taste of Lexie Meyers and her mouth-watering coconut cake.

Now you want to know what I really thought of the story. First off, I did like Ms. Barrett writing style. I thought it was really pleasant. However, I wish there was a little more tension between Lexie and Sebastian, but it was still good. Throughout most of the story it we had pleasant feel. It wasn't until I got closer to the end where we finally got a little more tension that I was looking for.

Overall, it was a pleasant read for debut novel. I'm interested to see how the other brothers find love. I did like Lexie and Seb's story. I like cocky heroes, and Sebastian is cocky. Plus, I like how Lexie didn't really put up with his crap. I mean, Seb did some stupid things. So, if you like cocky chefs you might enjoy Deep Autumn Heat.

On the Island by Tracey Garvis Graves

All right I started On the Island by Tracey Garvis Graves a few days ago. Normally this wouldn't be a book I would pickup, unless it was part a book club book. Which it happens to the April selection for HEA Book Club which is hosted by Harlequin Junkie. Everyone is welcome to the discussion of the book of the month. So, if would like to join the discussion On the Island on April 25th come join us. If don't get a chance to read it before then, it's all right it's a lot of fun to chat with others.

Anyways; enough about that the HEA Book Club, so let's get going on the book. For those who don't know anything about the book it's about Anna Emerson and T.J. Callahan who ended trapped on a deserted islands close to the Maldives. What should have been a fun adventure for Anna turned out to be a worst nightmare (to be honest anyone).

When I started the first chapter, I thought if you believed in omens you might have taken the signs not to go. However, if Anna and T.J., didn't go we wouldn't have had this book. Honestly, I thought the story was beautifully done.

When the book started Anna was 30 years old and T.J. was 16 almost 17, so as the story progress you saw the dynamics change of there relationship changed. I really thought  the author did an amazing job with them. I love how Anna and T.J. were able to keep their relationship as friends while he was still underage. I enjoyed how you watch their friendship blossom to something more as they got older. Especially, when there was no hope of making it off the island. I think it would be harder if they didn't have each other.

Seriously, a beautiful book about survival and hope. I laugh at parts and got choked up at others. By the end of the book I had tears streaming done my face. As I said, I don't know if I would have picked up this book on my own, but I'm glad I got a chance to read On the Island. I really loved the love between Anna & T.J. I think sometimes when you get thrown into a situation like that you are either live or die. T.J. and Anna decided to go against the odds to live.

Overall, amazing. So, if you are looking for a book on going against odds, I would suggest reading On the Island. Plus, this book is an amazing book for a book club selection, because there is so much to discussion on the topic of getting stranded on an deserted island. Honestly, I would suggest On the Island for any book club looking for a great read.

Taking Shots by Toni Aleo

A few days ago I started Taking Shots by Toni Aleo. I must say that I was impress with this story, for a couple of reasons. However, the main reason is I'm not a hockey fan, but I really felt like reading a hockey book. Even though I'm not a hockey fan this story was worth the time to read. Plus, the cover is pretty hot.

In the story, we meet Eleanor Fisher (Ellie) who is a bit insecure with her appearance and lacking in self confidence. Yet, she was able to attract one of the hottest guy, Shea Adler, on the team, but she kind of wonders why he's with her. After all he is known for dating bimbos and not the average girls. However, Shea was hooked from the first moment he saw Ellie.

I love Shea. He's such a great guy in this book. Oh my goodness, the man had patience of a saint when it came to wooing Ellie. Seriously, he was really sweet and practically followed Ellie like a puppy dog. Normally, this type of hero wouldn't work for me, because I tend to like the bad boy. Yet, this image work for Shea and I just fell in love with the guy.

Ellie is a mess. After reading the story, I completely understand why. After breaking up with the douche-bag, Ellie really had to do some repairs on her self-esteem. Not completely repaired, but with Shea's help she was able to overcome her obstacles. Her family didn't really help with the situation either. Her mother was a piece of work (that's all I can say).

Overall, I loved the story. I especially loved Shea and how loving he was. Seriously, he was amazing. Some of the things he did in the book really touch my heart (honestly, any girl would want him). Ellie was adorable. Plus, Shea and Ellie were so cute together. So, if you are looking for a sweet hot hockey guy with an adorable girl, you might want to read Taking Shots. Or if you love hockey books you might want to grab this delectable read.

ARC: A Very Exclusive Engagement by Andrea Laurence

Early this morning, I finished reading A Very Exclusive Engagement by Andrea Laurence. Who doesn't love a quick read with a fake engagement or a conniving aunt? I for one love enjoy a good fake engagement.

From the first moment Francesca Orr and Liam Crowe were stuck in the elevator the steam from that encounter hadn't evaporated. Boy was that a hot moment. Now Liam was give an ultimatum from his Aunt Beatrice (the Queen Bee) to be married within the year. Fortunately, he found the perfect co-conspirator to trick the Queen Bee. Yet, nothing ever works out according the plan. The goal is to make it through this farce unscathed, but it seems the heart doesn't understand the goals.

Francesca is one of the most fascinating heroine I have read so far. Taking her nona's superstitions to heart she looks for signs to guide through her life. One of those signs helps her decided to go along with Liam's plan. Liam is definitely a yummy hero with his blue eyes and dark hair. Yet he is willing to do whatever to get American News Service (ANS) back on track. Even take on a fake fiancée to secure the controlling shares of the company.

The fake fiancée troupe is a lot fun to read. I mean you know they are going be force to marry, no matter what. However, you always wonder who will be the first to cave and fall in love or wonder if both characters fall in love at the same time and don't want to admit it. See a lot of fun. Plus, Liam and Francesca have a lot of heat to begin with and this adds to the complication of their liaison.

I actually found A Very Exclusive Engagement delightful to read. I enjoyed the chemistry between Liam and Francesca and how it was compounded with the fake engagement. Add the Queen Bee into the mix, and you know it can only lead to trouble. So, if you love fake engagements with meddlesome family members, you might like to read A Very Exclusive Engagement.

The Cinderella Makeover by Hope Tarr

Yesterday I spent the whole day reading the book two of the Suddenly Cinderella series. I know I kind of cutting it close, but I made it. So, let me give you the book description as you would find on Goodreads, Amazon, or any e-tailer that would carry The Cinderella Makeover by Hope Tarr.

Fashionista Francesca St. James has agreed to work as a "fairy godmother" on the reality TV show Project Cinderella, taking contestants from geeky to dreamy. When Francesca’s archrival bets she can't transform the awkwardly sweet CEO to hot in under eight weeks, Francesca accepts the challenge.
As CEO of a tech company, Greg may have billions, but what’s it worth without a woman to share it with? From day one on the show though, he clashes with his gorgeous fairy godmother—yet off-set, he can’t stop thinking about her. But this sexy woman is so far out of his league…and wants to change every single thing about him. It's up to him to show her it's more than clothes that make the man.
May the best man or geek win…
Now you would like to know my thoughts, so here we go:

Back in November I actually read the first book of Suddenly Cinderella series, which was Operation Cinderella. During the first book we actually do meet Francesca St. James, because she is the mother of Samantha. However, the last time we saw her in that book she was with her current boy toy Freddie the sous chef. Sadly there relationship didn't last. I know, so sad. Obviously, he wasn't our Cinderella's prince charming. Now the magic vintage Sacs scarlet slippers have made there way through Macie, Starr, and now Francesca. They seem to work for the previous recipients, lets hope they work for Francesca.

As I was reading The Cinderella Makeover, it kind of reminded me of Cinderella meets the Ugly Duckling. Here's why: When Francesca actually meets Greg for the first time she saw real potential with his looks, but he was too focus on his company that he didn't put much effort into his appearance. About a year later, Greg realizes that he needed to change something in order to find his soul-mate. Wow, kind of refreshing to have a guy like that. By throwing these two people on a Reality TV was an interesting way to get these destiny lovers together.

I actually thought it was unique to have Francesca and Greg relationship start off from enemies and have them slowly progress to lovers (enemies-->frienemies-->friends-->lovers). Plus, I love how Ms. Tarr had to add Francesca's nemesis (Deidre Dupree) to the mix. Most of all I love Greg's ugly duckling transformation and his love for ABBA (yes, that 1970s band). He wasn't bad looking, but he was hiding from the world and afraid to take a chance on him.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I thought Greg and Francesca were great together. Of course, I was chuckling at parts (of course you have to when you have a guy singing ABBA songs) and I got a bit choked up. So, if you want to a story where Cinderella finds her prince charming in a form of an ugly duckling (by the way that ugly duckling did turn into a beautiful swan), you might want to take a chance on The Cinderella Makeover.

Now I wonder if those magic vintage Sacs scarlet slippers will help another find true love? I hope so.

eARC: Chasing Mrs. Right by Katee Robert

For the past couple of days I have been reading Katee Robert's Chasing Mrs. Right. I must say that this a hot steamy read will keep you warm at night. Let me share why:

Who doesn't love when a one night stand that goes horribly wrong. We all know the purpose of one night stand, that we are never going to see the person ever again. However, that doesn't happen with Roxanne Stokes, nope she has the luck of sleeping with her best friend's older brother Ian Walser. What are the chances of that? So much heat and passion in that one night how can they both walk away from that?

Normally, I don't like damaged heroines for a couple of reasons. The main reason is they tend to get on my nerves. However, Roxanne didn't get on my nerves. I actually liked her and her jaded attitude on love. I must say I have seen some jaded heroines, but I think she takes the cake with lines like:

"It's the only emotion that makes people experience a false high, better than any drug on the market. Two people in love believe in miracles. They believe that all they need is love to conquer the world. It's all a lie."
Or...

"It's the same damn thing. We're encouraged to marry for love, and then those new relationship vibes run out, and all you're left with is some near-stranger who you are incompatible with in every way but, sexually. You end up resenting them because you're trapped, and all that hate turns into a toxic mix that's damn unlivable. Falling in love is the beginning of the end for relationship. It just takes some longer to realize it than others."

Seriously jaded, cynical, or whatever word you can come up with. What it all boils down to is fear that was instill at a young age. And I appreciate Ms. Robert using a hero that had some serious emotional baggage. I don't think that Roxanne could have handle someone who didn't have baggage. Boy Ian has baggage. For one thing he's coming back from overseas and adjusting to life after the military; not always an easy transition. Then he's dealing with his family, especially his mother. Wow, she's a piece of work.

Overall, I enjoyed reading Chasing Mrs. Right. I love the fact that Roxanne and Ian are both damage goods trying to work their way through life. They are a lot of fun to read with their banter between each other. BOY they bring the heat in their conversation and in the bedroom (or anywhere else). Here's the bottom line: If you are looking for hot and steamy with some witty conversation, I would say give Chasing Mrs. Right a try and be prepare to turn on the AC.

Follow My Lead by Kate Noble

For sometime I've had this on my kindle sitting unfinished for almost two years. I know, but I finally finished Follow My Lead by Kate Noble. First off, I really wanted to love this book. Instead going in my normal synopsis of the book here is what you find when you read the back of the book:

Jason Cummings, Duke of Rayne is feeling the weight of his responsibilities - one of which is to get married. Being the most sought after bachelor in London can be trying, so who can blame him if he seeks refuge from the voracious hordes of young debutantes at the decidedly female-free Historical Society? Female-free, that is, until Winnifred Crane marches up to the door, demanding entrance.

Despite her prowess as a historian, Winn is denied membership the Society. So she daringly offers an unusual bargain: if she can prove the authenticity of a certain painting, she'll be granted recognition, fame, and respect. But to do that, she must go abroad. And to go abroad, she must have an escort, even a stubbornly unwilling one...

Jason has no desire to accompany Winn on her adventure across Europe, but even he is not immune to Winn's passion for her profession. As the journey proves more difficult than planned, they must work together to stay one step ahead of their rivals.... and the closer they get to the proof Winn seeks, the closer she and Jason become. But as their adventure turns dangerous, can Jason keep this headstrong bluestocking safe? And what will become of their growing bond when the adventure ends?

By the back of the cover, Follow My Lead sounded like a lot fun. I was really hoping for that, but as I started the story, I felt that it dragged most of the book. I got to a point that I just didn't want to continue reading. I figure I could put the book down for a while come back to it. Well, it has been two years, but I finished the story. I only had about 50 pages left of the book, silly me. However, it was like pulling teeth two years ago.

I did like Winnifred Crane. I tend to like intelligent heroines that are willing to go against convention. Then you have Jason, whose not my favorite hero. Even being a Duke didn't help his cause. I really don't mind arrogant Dukes, but he was just really rude and condescending. When it boil down he wasn't willing to fight for what he wanted. ACK! Really, your not going to get the girl, because she told you no. Now you can understand the teeth pulling.

Overall, it was an ok read. Now that I have finished it and realize I stopped when it got to the exciting part. I just couldn't do it, but I had to finished the book. Honestly, I was seduced by the cover. I loved the cover, but not the story. I was kind of disappointed in the ending and felt the story could have really used an epilogue. I think I would have felt better with more closure. So, Follow My Lead didn't work for me, but it might work you. I do plan to read another Kate Noble book to see if another book will work for me. We will see.

Night Demon by Lisa Kessler

All right everyone, last night I finished Night Demon by Lisa Kessler. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect when I first started the story for a couple of reasons. The first reason is it's a book two in a series. I know jumping into a middle of the series especially with a paranormal book can be trouble. However, I didn't feel that way. Granted it might have been beneficial to get the first book and novella of the story in too, but at the same time, I felt I could navigate the story without the first book and novella. I have say I did pretty good. YAY! I guess I should share with you what book kept me up really late.

First off, I started Night Demon Wednesday night. I was having a hard time getting into the story. Nothing that had to do with the story. Really, it just had been a long day and I just didn't feel like reading. Which was probably a good thing, because the next day I dived into Night Demon. Boy, I had a hard time putting it down, which is the reason for the late night. I would get to the point saying I need to go to bed, but the same time I got a point where I needed to know what happen next. Honestly, by the time I really needed go to sleep, I had a few chapters left and figure "oh what the heck, I'm almost done."

My first thought was intense. Night Demon was an intense read full a lot of information. I enjoyed the fact that it gave a different twist on vampires. With so many vampire stories out there it's really hard to put your on twist on night creatures, yet Ms. Kessler was able to do that in Night Demon.

To be honest, there is a lot that is going on in this story that I don't want to bog you all down with so many details. I love that we travel around the Yucatan trying to understand the ancient Mayan history about the Night Walkers. Then travel to San Diego to get more information and back to Yucatan. As you read this story you really feel like your there watching things as they happen. Gretchen Finch is one smart cookie. I have to say I really do like intelligent  heroine who are not afraid of danger. Boy does she find danger. Then you have Lukas Smith who wishes he could cure himself from being a Night Walker. Plus, he wants to keep Gretchen safe from the evil that lurks and possibly from him.

WOW, is all I can say about this book. Seriously, you feel the danger that lurks around you. At times I had to take a break from the book, because it was intense. Yes, it will give you that heart pounding excitement. Plus, Night Demon leaves aching to see what happens next. Now like the rest of you, I have to wait for the next book. So, if you are looking for excitement, danger and intrigue, I would suggest Night Demon.

ARC: The Mistress Memoirs by Jillian Hunter

A few day ago, I finished Jillian Hunter's The Mistress Memoirs which happens to be book 13th in the A Boscastle Affairs series. To be honest, this is the first Boscatle Affairs book I have read. I must say that I enjoyed the book. The main reason I enjoyed the story is I was able to pick up and not worry about the previous books. Basically, it can be read as a stand alone. I think sometimes this is a great way to see if you would read any the other book in series (if it works).

The Mistress Memoirs is Sir Colin Boscastle's story. Colin left 13 years ago to avenge his father's death. So, he has been chasing Mason Earling for that long. He finally had to come home because his former lover, Georgette, is currently with Mason. So, he figures he can use Georgette to get to Mason. While in her company he notices her governess, Kate Walcott.

A dangerous game is afoot, the Georgette household is in the line of fire. While in the line of fire, Kate and Colin can't seem to leave each other along.

As I said, I enjoyed the story. Honestly, I do like vengeance stories, because they tend to be filled with danger. Boy danger is afoot, especially with the emotions between Colin and Kate. They do try to keep away from each other, but you know how well that works at times. Kate has her own story and is afraid that no man will truly want her with her past. Then you have Colin who is a rakehell, but he's willing to change for Kate. I have to say I was pleased with the chemistry them. I also appreciate the relationship between Kate and Georgette.

Bottom line is it was a pretty good read which I enjoyed. Plus, you can jump into the story and not feel like your missing anything from the previous books. So, if you are looking some danger, I would suggest taking a look at The Mistress Memoirs.

Real Men Don't Quit by Coleen Kwan

Oh my gosh what a fantastic story I just finished today, which is Real Men Don't Quit by Coleen Kwan. I'm kind of on a book high. Don't you love that feeling. Real Men Don't Quit is book two in Real Men series. I have to say I really have enjoyed this series and this book.

We actually met Tyler Jones in Real Men Don't Break Hearts. Tyler is the best friend of Ally who met the love of her life in the last book. So, Real Men Don't Quit  focuses on Tyler even though she has a jaded view on love. Which I can completely understand with her luck on previous relationship. Of course she would meet a guy who doesn't really believe he's marriage material.

Luke Maguire has come across writers block and so he's crashing at his agent's home to write the sequel to his next book. Yet, he's distracted by Tyler and her daughter, Chloe.

Seriously, fantastic read. After reading Real Men Don't Quit, the story left me with a permasmile. I love Tyler and her mama-bear instinct when it comes to Chloe. She's so protective and guarded with her feelings too. Then you have Luke, who isn't looking for anything. Well, maybe some words for his future book. Overall Luke isn't looking for love, actually he's trying to avoid. Again he doesn't see himself as marriage material. I love how they complete each other, but don't want to acknowledge that they do. So, much fun with these two characters.

I did love the story, because Tyler and Luke were fabulous together and made the story entertaining. The Bliss line is known for its sweet happy-ever-afters, and this story is no exception. So, if you are looking for a sweet toe-curling read, I would suggest Real Men Don't Quit. After all it left me giddy with happiness.

Could Your Life Be A Romance Novel or At Least Parts of It?

Maybe this flamingo is a shame of his family
Have you ever wonder if your life could be used in a romance novel? You are probably wondering where this all stem from. Well, it all started from another blog post I read. The blog post was asking how do you feel about grandparents in the books you read. This got me started to thinking: Could my life be a romance novel? So, I started to think of  situation that you would find in romance novels and form some questions. In way this is a little quiz to see if your life could be a romance novel:

  • Was anyone in your family illegitimate or a bastard (honestly this really wouldn't matter in present day)?
  • Would any male member in your family would be consider a manwhore, rake, rogue, or player?
  • Did anyone in your family take in there by-blow into there family?
  • Nosy neighbors that have stick there nose in everybody's business?
  • Black sheep in the family (everyone has one)?
  • Crazy family members that you question their mental stability?
  • Drama from a death in a family or any other crisis?
  • Force marriage, because someone got accidentally pregnant?
  • Any secret pregnancy?
  • Anyone out there used a fake boyfriend or fiancé to appease the family?
If you can "yes" to any of these question, maybe your life can be made into a romance story. I know I can answer some of the question. Now you're dying to know which ones I would answer. So, here we go:

I actually can say yes to the first one. Yes, my parents were not married when they conceived me. To tell you the truth they didn't get married until my youngest brother was born. Technically, I'm not a legitimate. At least I wasn't born in the regency or victorian otherwise I would be a walking scandal.

Ok, the next two I can most definitely say yes. My grandfather "god rest his soul" was a manwhore. I'm not kidding. My mother has told me that I have 13 aunts and uncles from his peccadilloes while he was away from home. I have to say that my mother was a result to one of his peccadilloes. The story behind my mother was living with her father and his wife. His wife just lost her son from SIDs and he figure it would be alright to bring in a child he had with his mistress. WOW, I know. As a result of my grandfathers misjudgment caused my mother to suffer the consequence. Its always hard to be different the rest of your brothers and sisters. Especially, you look like the oddball out of them all (my mother was brown hair and brown eyes while her siblings were blond hair and blue eyes. Plus, it didn't help that both the parents she knew were blond hair).

Actually, I could probably answer yes to most the questions on my list. I think my romance story would be a little rough, but I think I would eventually get to my happily-ever-after. Do you have a story? I know some of them might not be as exciting as having a grandfather being a manwhore. Could you see your life as a romance story?

A Bandit's Stolen Heart by Michelle McLean

First things first, I'm not a huge fan of westerns. I'm not sure why, but I'm just not. It could be I haven't read too many western. Which is very surprising, because I do have a few on my Kindle just haven't gotten to them. I guess it's time to try new things, right? Today I bring to you Michelle McLean's newest book, A Bandit's Stolen Heart. This will be start of a new series Blood Blade Sisters. I know how exciting.

In this story we meet Richardson sisters, Brynne, Pricilla (Cilla), and Lucy. Well, these lovely sisters are looking out for there friends and neighbors against there evil conniving half brother. A Bandit's Stolen Heart is a Robin Hood-like story only western style.

Cilla is more like Robin Hood than the other sister. Always looking out for everyone and not really looking out for herself. While still a child and seeing the injustice that was occurring in her hometown she creates Blood Blade. I don't know why, but every time I see Blood Blade I want to change it to Blade Blood. Who knows. Yes, I said she is trying to protect the lovely town people from the evil conniving half brother and of course he would be a sherif. Wouldn't be a Robin Hood-like story without a wicked sherif.

Somehow we need to get the hero into the story and what better way that have him search for his older brother. Jake Forrester was last seen with the Richardson sisters and Leo figure it would be great place to start. However, things don't go according to plan and he ends up wedded to Brynne. I had a hard time swallowing this and of course it was Cilla's idea. UGH!

Ok, I liked A Bandit's Stolen Heart, but I had some issues with the story. For one thing the hero has to marry the older sister (not that she was ugly, but he was more attracted to Cilla). I know it was to save her, but I struggle with this so much. As the story progress, Leo starts to develop feelings for Cilla (oh no factor, and what has done). We have conflicting feelings and trying to be noble with the whole situation. However, it righted itself in the end and that is the most important thing to happen. Plus, it left me wondering what's going to happen to the other sisters.

Here's the bottom line: If you are a western fan, I would suggest checking A Bandit's Stolen Heart. After all it is quite good for a western, because it has the essence of western with cattle, ranch, and bandits. Am I going to read more westerns, I don't know, but at least I found one that has me intrigue enough take a look at more westerns.

Guest Post: Michelle Smart (Tempted by Trouble Blog Tour)

I would like to welcome Michelle Smart to What I'm Reading! Let me turn over my blog over to Michelle.

As anyone who knows me (or has been following my blog tour) will attest, I always write to music. Indeed, I have my earphones in right now and a random shuffle on (I’m lying – I downloaded Imagine Dragons’ Radioactive earlier and keep hitting play on that!).

I do have specific playlists, which I listen to depending on the particular ‘mood’ I am writing at that time. I have an ‘angsty’ list, a ‘getting jiggy with it’ list (I have young children. They think it means dancing ha ha ha!), a ‘broken heart’ list and a ‘falling in love’ list. There’s also the main list which has every song on it from all the lists, and some extras. Phew.

But no matter how extensive the lists are, there’s always a handful of songs I hit repeat on; songs that capture the mood of where I am at that point so perfectly. And there is always a song that ends up belonging to that book… With Tempted by Trouble that song was Wonderful Life by Black. It just encapsulates everything about it so perfectly. Right from the opening bars I’m swept away with the almost steel-drum beats. It’s a song full of melancholy but it always makes me think of long, sandy beaches and bright blue skies, and the lyrics match perfectly what Pippa is going through (I would reprint some of them but I’d likely be in breach of copyright).

Even if you have no desire to read Tempted by Trouble, please, have a listen to this song. It’s utterly gorgeous. Black, A wonderful Life:

I would like to thank Michelle for taking the time for making this post. Here's a little bit about Michelle, how to connect with her, and about Tempted by Trouble.

A bit about the author Michelle Smart:
Michelle's love affair with books began as a baby when, according to her mum, she would throw her teddies out of the cot and cuddle with books instead. This love of all things wordy has never left her. A voracious reader, her tastes cross all genres. Her first experience with romance was as a child devouring copious amount of fairy tales. As her reading tastes evolved, she discovered something special--a book has the capacity to make her heart beat as if falling in love the first time.
When not reading or pretending to do the housework, Michelle loves nothing more than creating worlds of her own featuring handsome heroes and the sparkly, feisty women who refuse to take crap from them. She hopes her books can make her readers’ hearts beat a little faster, too.

A Bit about Tempted by Trouble:

As far as Marco’s concerned, wild child Pippa has ruined his life once and he’ll be damned if he lets her do it again. But it’s hard to reconcile the adolescent he knew with the mature, beautiful woman who stands before him. Soon he's questioning if everything the media is claiming about Pippa is the truth, or if he should trust his heart.

Socialite Pippa Rowantree has always provided excellent fodder for the UK’s gossip rags. After another unfortunate scandal sends the gossips into a feeding frenzy, her shamed family retaliates by forcing her into hiding at old family friend, Marco Capello’s lush Caribbean estate—literally the last place on earth she wants to be.
