Don't Blackmail the Vampire by Tiffany Allee

Don't Blackmail the Vampire by Tiffany Allee is a fun light story about vampires. I know fun and light are not usually associated with vampire. However, it's not one of those stories that is dark. Come on the story takes place on a ski trip.

Honestly, I thought Don't Blackmail the Vampire was fun, because you have Rachel whose soul intent is to breakup her sister and her fiancé. However, she doesn't know how, but when she catches Charles feeding on a girl she figure she could blackmail him to help her. Come on who blackmails a vampire? I mean the guy could have killed her once she knew what he was, but he went along for the ride. Granted he had his own agenda, and he figure they could help one another out.

I adore Rachel, because she's describe as a subtle beauty that's a bit of a nerd. There's nothing wrong with being a nerd. I love Rachel's description of Charles:
"He wasn't dark and scary and broody; he was sexy and funny and kind."
See I'm not the only one with the idea that vampires are suppose to be dark and broody. Another description of Charles:
"The vampire with a soul, with a heart, go figure. Charles might seem shallow to the casual observer--with his lighthearted attitude and playboy smile--but he wasn't. He had the ability to care deeply. Earnestly."
Which is the whole reason he went to Colorado. Actually the two of them were adorable together, especially when they worked together.

Overall, I was entertained by Don't Blackmail the Vampire. I can't wait to meet the other brother, but I get the feeling he's not as fun as Charles and saying Noah is fun is pushing it a little. So, if you are looking for a caring vampire that cares deeply, Charles might be your vampire in Don't Blackmail the Vampire.

*Side note: I would recommend reading Don't Bite the Bridesmaid first. Just a recommendation not a requirement.

Blog Tour Guest Post + Review + Giveaway + Excerpt: Stop Dragon My Heart Around by Susannah Scott

Guest Post from Susannah:
Any SJP fans out there?

We Gen-XYers don't even pause-hell yeah! The bad dating of my twenties seemed benign compared to the antics of Sarah Jessica Parker of her posse on Sex and The City. When I saw Sarah she had done a "zippy-fun" 5 minute video interview with Vogue answering 73 questions, I was intrigued. 73 questions, in 5 minutes! (No, don't go google it now! I'll give you the link at the bottom)

The first time though the video, I was charmed and entertained. The second time, I felt the challenge of rapid-fire repartee calling my name... I wonder how I would answer all those questions?

Drum roll please....

For your snappy reading pleasure, I transcribed the questions and broke them into serial blog posts for my release tour. Many thanks to Melody for hosting my 3rd segment!

Let's do this thing!

Q17: What do you love on your pizza?
A: Not a lot of crust!

Q18: Favorite drink?
A: Single Malt Scotch - not too peaty

Q19: Favorite dessert?
A: Tiramisu
I'm a Type 2 diabetic so I have to be really careful about sweets, but I have a hard time resisting tiramisu or crème brulee.

Q20: Dark Chocolate or Milk Chocolate?
A: Milk Chocolate
Symphony Bars are my favorite

Q21: Weirdest/ickiest thing you've ever eaten?
A: Haggis
My family is Scottish and my hub and I went to Scotland on our honeymoon. Of course, I had to try the local dish! Ick. Ick. Ick. Even friend in bacon grease-ICK.

Q22: Hardest part about being a mom to 3 boys?
A: Knowing that if I do my job right, they will grow up and replace me with a very special life partner, and likely not call on my birthday. *le sigh* Boys.

Q23: Favorite Band?
NeedtoBreathe

Q24: Favorite Solo Artist?
Bruce Springsteen

Q25: Favorite Lyrics?
Hard to Get, Rich Mullins.
You who live in radiance
Hear the prayers of those of us who live in skin
We have a love that's not as patient as Yours was
Still we do love now and then

Did You ever know loneliness
Did You ever know need
Do You remember just how long a night can get?
When You were barely holding on
And Your friends fall asleep
And don't see the blood that's running in Your sweat

Will those who mourn be left uncomforted
While You're up there just playing hard to get?

When my friend Lindsey died, I wrote out the lyrics to this song for weeks, over and over. I wrote them on napkins, boxes, in the dirt. It was both a prayer and meditation. A way for me to cope and work through my grief. Lindsey was the first person my age whom I loved and lost.

Q26: If your life were a song what would it be?
A: Roar

Q27: If you could duet with anyone, who would it be?
A: Pink!
I'm actually a really gifted 1st soprano, but I hate performing. I get stage fright. But, if Pink was beside me, we would rock the house! Love her lyrics and she is such an amazing vocal talent.

Q28: If you could master an instrument, what would it be?
A: Cello

How about you? I challenge you to pick 1 question from above and answer it in the comments. As a bonus, I'll give a free kindle copy (one per person) of my new release STOP DRAGON MY HEART AROUND to 1 randomly picked answerer.

You know you what to try!

If you want to follow the rest of the interview, you can see a complete listing of my serial blog tour here. (link -- http://susannahscottbooks.com/ )

All my best,

Stop Dragon My Heart Around by Susannah Scott
Publisher: Entangled Covet (April 28, 2014)
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Las Vegas Dragons, 2

Blurb:

Gold plated hearing aids? Check.

Pink doggy booties, times four? Check.

Tee is Vegas’s favorite casino hostess, ready to grant her high rollers their every quirky wish. But when her own wish to financially help her Paiute Tribe finally comes true, she decides to double-down with lady luck and go for a hot hook-up with her sexy boss, Leo. Unfortunately, Tee’s about to find out why their romance is such a long shot—Leo is a shape-shifting dragon.

Leo needs a proper dragon mate to save his waning dragon form, and despite their magnetic sexual attraction, he knows Tee is anything but proper—or a dragon. But when threats arise from Tee's tribe, Leo’s protective instincts kick in. Can he give up his dragon form for the woman he loves—even if it means shortening his life? Or has Tee finally had enough of having her heart dragged around?

My Thoughts:

Almost a year ago Susannah brought us her first dragon-shifter in Luck of the Dragon and I was impress with the story. We finally get Stop Dragon My Heart Around which is book two in her series. I thought I like dragon-shifters before, but I think I'm in love with them. Actually, I think I'm  in love with Leo. There were a few things that made me love Leo, but when he tells Tee
"My dragon is a part of me. If I lost my dragon form, it would be like a part of me died." Leo scooted to the exit of the tent and then looked back at her. "I had already decided I give up my form for you, before I knew you were my mate. If that's the only way we can be together, I'll do it."
I seriously melted for Leo. I wanted to cry, because that's the sweetest thing a guy to say to a girl.

Anyway, Stop Dragon My Heart Around actually had more going on than the book blurb mention. Yes, most of the story has Leo trying to figure out if he wants to find his mate or going after Tee and giving up the dragon. We also have Tee needing to come to terms to some secrets that are reveal about her family and how she will handle them. Plus, there's conflict within the tribe that could effect her status in the tribe.

Honestly, Leo won me over, by his willingness to do anything for Tee. Seriously, love that guy. I mean he has to shoulder a lot of responsibility with keeping the peace all around him. Tee, I have to say handled her situation well and I was glad she was willing accept the things that can't be change. Yes, I did love Stop Dragon My Heart Around and I believe it's better than the first book. I can't wait to see what happens with the next set of dragons. I did like the fact that Susannah gave hint on who the next couple will be at the end. So, if you are looking for a dragon-shifter, you might consider Stop Dragon My Heart Around. By the way, the story can be read as a stand alone, because the story focuses more on Leo, Tee and the Paiute Tribe.

Short Excerpt:

“Good day, ladies.” Leo poured on his Australian accent and the two woman shrieked like schoolgirls. “I’m actually Leonidas Ryan, head of Casino Operations, but people often say I look like that actor.” He looked at her in question.

“Chris Hemsworth,” Tee said with an eye roll. “You’re nothing like him.”

“Yes, he is,” Trixie said, staring at Leo like a carb-dieter drooling over a loaded pizza. “Those eyes, those shoulders. That accent. I bet you have a six pack too.” She smiled at him and twirled her blonde hair around her finger.

“I guess that makes me the God of Thunder.” Leo patted his flat stomach and winked. “With a vee-rry large hammer.”

Love and Other Cosmic Nonsense by AD Marrow

I wanted to read Love and Other Cosmic Nonsense by A.D. Marrow, because the premise of the story just sounded fun. I mean you have a witch, Maggie Owen, who has a vision and ends up breaking up with her boyfriend, Evan Jackson. However, fate brings them back together to fix a wrong.

All right, there was some cute moments in the story. However, the story could have been a little longer. I just felt that Evan and Maggie kind of rushed back into a relationship. Yes, they still had a chemistry, but just felt hurried. I think that if the reconnecting part could have been drawn out and develop more would have been better. I think it would have helped if there was a reconcile period to become friends then lovers would have been more of my taste.

However, it wasn't a bad read. Actually, the story had a lot potential and I'm curious on how the other stories will proceed with this series. So, if you are looking a really quick read, you can give Love and Other Cosmic Nonsense a try.

Sex & The Single Vamp by Robin Covington

I finished Robin Covington's Sex & the Single Vamp. I signed up to read this book, because I enjoy Robin's writing. However, what really sold me was the cover and the title. The cover is simple yet provocative. At the same time Sex & the Single Vamp did not disappoint me.

So, Cici and Trent have known each other for a long time. Basically, Cici tries to stay clear of Deacon. However, circumstances have Cici needing Deacon's help. Of course it's going to cost her and we aren't talking about money.

Now Deacon has been in love with Cici, but she kind of broke his heart way back when. So, he's not a big fan of her dating service. Anyway, Deacon going to keep Cici safe no matter what the cost might be.

I enjoyed Sex & the Single Vamp. However, it took a little time for me to get into the story. Yet, once the threats and danger level went up the interesting the story got for me. I really liked Deacon, because he sacrifice a lot for Cici. Yes, he did go about it the wrong way and in some ways a bit creepy if you really think about it. Still he's a pretty decent guy for wanting to protect Cici. Actually a lot of things happen in the story which make it an interesting read, and I wonder if there will be more to the story to come. I say this cause the bad guys aren't really caught and sort of go underground like they plan to regroup. Yet the romance part of the story gets settle in the end, but it's the group that doesn't. Who knows. I'm hoping there will be more stories to come. Overall, an enjoyable read. Sex & the Single Vamp is a fairly quick read. So, if you are looking for a new paranormal, you might give this story a try.

Pan's Conquest by Aubrie Dionne

I don't know how many out there know a lot about Greek Mythology. Honestly, I only know a few of the really big names like Zeus, Hera, and Hades. However, most of the stories are interesting, but we just don't focus a lot of time on them. So, when I got an opportunity to checkout Pan's Conquest by Aubrie Dionne, I just jumped at the opportunity for a couple of reasons. One, the story intrigued me. Second, I have enjoyed Aubrie's writing before.

For those who don't know who Pan is, he's a lusty god of fertility. Basically, Pan is always looking for his next conquest, after all he's a lusty fellow. However, there's one who didn't want to take any part of his activities and that was Syrinx. Now Syrinx is know as the goddess of chastity. It wouldn't be a good idea for Syrinx to cavort with Pan. I mean that would put a damper on the whole chastity thing. Anyway, Syrinx needed to get away from Pan, so she asked a nymph for help. This lead Syrinx to the modern day and she become Sylvia Rain. Of course, Pan can let Syrinx go, so he follows her. Pan becomes Parker Thomas in the modern day. Now he's trying to conquer Syrinx, because he has always wanted her and maybe he'll be able to move on.

I enjoyed Pan's Conquest. Yes, Pan is a bit of a stalker in the story, but when he started out he wanted to make Syrinx his next conquest no matter what. Plus, he didn't consider her feelings when he set out on this quest. However, after living in the mortal world and having a good friend he learned that he needed to take others into consideration. I love how he starts to get to know Syrinx as a person rather than object. I think what really helped Pan realize this was the wise words he received from Mr Rutherford:
"You can be whomever you want to be, Mr. Thomas. It's your actions that define who you are. Not others' preconceived notions. The people who matter the most should know who you really are--the true you."
Overall, Pan's Conquest is an excellent story about a lusting god who tries to go after a conquest, but realizes there might more to life. So, if you have a hankering for a greek god and what to see if he's willing to change for love, you might want to read Pan's Conquest.

Love at Stake by Victoria Davies

I got a chance to read Love at Stake by Victoria Davies. I really couldn't put down this story. I do love to get my hands on a pretty awesome paranormal and I tend to steer towards shifters. However, the idea of this one just caught my attention.

We meet Abbey who works at a supernatural matchmaking service named Fated Match (think of it like Match.com or eHarmony for werewolves, vampires, and others). By the way she's practically the only human that works there. Anyway, she gets an opportunity to try get one of the most sought after vampire socialite. However, there is one problem standing in the way and that would be her father Lucian Redgrave. Lucian decides to give the matchmaking service a try, but there is one stipulation which is Abbey needs to be his matchmaker.

All right, I really liked Love at Stake, because you have this über sexy vampire who's wants to find his mate. At the same time, he has a hard time believing the matchmaking service is going to work. Not only that he's attracted to Abbey and figures once he's has her he'll be able to move on to find his mate. I love how Abbey tries to avoid his advancements, which almost cost her job. Once Lucian gets a taste of Abbey he can't seem to let her go, so he has his inner struggle. Yeah, the whole I don't know if I could be with a human thing. Lucian's personal struggles almost tears something magical apart.

Overall, I found Love at Stake great read. Plus, it's a fast pace story that could probably read in a day or two. I really can't wait for the next story. So, if you are looking for a quick read with a sexy vampire, you might give Love at Stake a go.

"I would lick that man up one side and down the other."

Half-shifter and lead SPAC agent, Val Calhoun, has listened to women gush over the Don Juan of the precinct for the last four years. Yeah, Detective Britton Townsend is hot and has stunning blue eyes, but that foul mouth he saves only for her? What a waste of good looks. And no way does Val want that mouth anywhere near hers.

When the shifter community is threatened, Val is assigned to the case…and fails. So the High Council turns to the rogue shifter they'd sentenced to twenty years as a human--that same obnoxiously sexy Detective Townsend. And sends the two arch-enemies deep into the North Carolina Mountains-—together, and alone.

Being stuck in a tiny honeymoon cabin with Miss Castration and only one bed is definitely not Britton's idea of a good time. But the High Council doesn’t take no for an answer. After his shifter abilities are restored, Brit is once again susceptible to the dreaded, irreversible bonding instinct, the Drall. Thankfully, all he’s ever felt for Val is intense loathing, no reason to worry. Right? All he has to do is solve this case pronto, and he can go back to his footloose Casanova ways. That is, if they don’t kill each other first. Or worse...fall in love.

The Awakening: Liam by Abby Niles

Today I was able to read The Awakening: Liam by Abby Niles. We all know I'm not very good at figuring out I'm in a middle of a series till it's too late. Hey that's how I roll (snickers to self). Fortunately, I wasn't too lost with this story.

So, The Awakening: Liam is about Liam Doyle who has marked his mate, but she has rejected him. WOW, tough break for him. Now he's doom to live in hell without the love of his life. Ava Michaels actually loves Liam, but had to sacrifice the relationship to save her sister. Sucks for her too. Since Liam is tied to Ava, he can feel most of her emotions. So, when she's in danger he can feel it and has the need to save her.

All right, so Ava and Liam ended getting capture by this madman and we don't find out the reason why until the end. However, he tortures the two through most of the book. Plus, Liam and Ava have a lot of issues that they just don't want to solve. Surprise, surprise communication would have saved a lot of problems in their relationship, but if they had communicated with one another the complication that made story wouldn't have been there. Therefore, there would not be story, so the lack of communication was kind of important to the story. At the same time drove me nuts.

I really felt bad for Liam, because he just seem like he was thrown into the pity of despair. Ava drove me nuts, because she just wasn't willing to talk to Liam and kept pushing him away. Overall, not a bad story, but I don't think it was for me. I like towards the end when they found out the madman twist plot to extract revenge on something Liam didn't have a clue what was going on. Basically, if you like stories with shifters finding their mates and finding a way to keep their mate, you might enjoy The Awakening: Liam.

Deceiving the Witch Next Door by Melissa Bourbon Ramirez

I have been feeling like reading some paranormal books and I happen to be lucky Deceiving the Witch Next Door by Melissa Bourbon Ramirez happen to be waiting for me.

I really enjoyed Deceiving the Witch Next Door. At first I thought it was about moonshine and a witch. Alas I was wrong, the story actually went deeper than trying to find a secret ingredient to a particular flavor moonshine, but a more sinister plot. Which I was blown away.

Before I got to the sinister plot, we had to deal with Storie Bell and Reid Malone. Storie has always been looked as a little odd and no one could really put their finger on it. Oh there's speculation that she could be a witch. Of course, she's a real witch and she has tried to keep her powers under control, but when she gets a bit emotional distraught they tend to make their presence known. When Reid is around they tend to pop-up.

Now Reid has made his poppa a promise to find the secret ingredient that makes their moonshine so special. Once he finds it, he's onto bigger and better things. However, he needs to worm his way to getting Storie to trust him. Not an easy task, especially when Storie has been warn that he's up to good.

I love how these two characters are enemies in one aspect, but the electricity between the two of them is too powerful to ignore. However, Reid tends to be a smoother talker and isn't a stranger to the ladies, and Storie isn't going to go just willy-nilly. Then things start to pop into the story that makes her question her decision to come back to Bloomington.

Overall, a pretty good read. I believe Deceiving the Witch Next Door really gets you anxious to see what happens next. Yes, the story starts off with the neighbor being conniving to get the secret recipe, a witch that's not sure who to trust, and then the return of mummy dearest. Which wreaks havoc on Storie. So, if you are looking for a witch and moonshine with a dash of sinister, you might want to checkout Deceiving the Witch Next Door.

eARC: Lions, Tigers, and Sexy Bears Oh My! by Candace Havens

I was able to finish Lions, Tigers, and Sexy Bears Oh My! by Candace Havens. I found this story really cute. I know that's not something you hear to often when you think of paranormal romance. Paranormal romances conjure up words like action-pack, hot, and danger. Not words like cute and sweet. However, there is a first for everything, right? Right.

What drew me to Lions, Tigers, and Sexy Bears Oh My! was the title itself. I mean come on the title alone sounds like a lot of fun. Plus, who wouldn't want a sexy bear keeping you warm at night, especially up in Montana. Trust me it gets cold up there.

Well, Ainsley McLeon kind of stumbled upon some really bad stuff and figured she needed to get herself out of dodge. Smart girl. Anyways, she wasn't really dress for the area she made her escape. I mean who wears Louboutin in the middle of winter in Montana. Fortunately, she's able to hideout in the middle of nowhere Montana and she was able to get a job at the only bar in town, which happens to be own by Luc, oh are sexy bear. He even has a bears temperament at times.

I honestly thought Lions, Tigers, and Sexy Bears Oh My! was cute and fun read. I mean I really like how Ainsley pushes herself into Luc's life and the town. I mean it's not always easy to win over shifters, but she manages just fine. Plus, she doesn't take any guff from nobody. Yes, Luc can be thick headed bear at times, even when he lets past events kind of dictate his life.

My favorite line has to be: "If you ever fight in here again, I will personally hang your balls from the rafters."

Seriously, who doesn't love girl who can stand on her own two feet and talk that way to some shifters. The bottom line: fun cute read. So, if you are looking for tigers bears that aren't too dangerous, you might want to give Lions, Tigers, and Sexy Bears Oh My! a try.

Blog Tour: Luck of the Dragon (Interview with Susannah Scott + Giveaway)

I would like y'all welcome the author of Luck of the Dragon, Susannah Scott to What I'm Reading!

How are you today?

I’m excellent! Thank you so much for having me on What I’m Reading for my release tour of Luck of the Dragon.

Can you tell us a little about Luck of the Dragon?
LUCK OF THE DRAGON is the first book in the Las Vegas Dragons series. Alec, my uber hot, Joe Manganiello-looking hero owns a ritzy Las Vegas casino, which provides a hidden-in-plain-sight sanctuary for his dragon-shifting people. His only problem is that Lucy, the sexy gem appraiser trying to steal from him, just might be his mate.

Where did you come up with the idea of Luck of the Dragon?
I love dragons and I love to write, but when first started writing I wasn’t very good, so I started taking a ton of classes. At the end of an intensive editing class with Liz Pelletier, she gently “passed” on acquiring my then fantasy romance. I asked her what she would like in the dragon variety? She said, “something fun, and contemporary, and sexy.” Viola, Luck of the Dragon began to form in my head. I submitted the completed manuscript to her within a few months.

I’ve always loved…

The happily ever after. In fact, I pass up reading many good stories, because I’ve “heard” that the protagonist doesn’t get everything tied up all nicey-nice at the end. To me, real life is “real” enough. In my stories, I want huge conflict and trouble that the Hero/Heroine successfully overcome.

How would Lucy describe Alec and vice versa?
Allow me to quote them!
Meet Lucy: "She was a contradiction: A brainy Ph.D, whose curriculum vitae read like a woman who didn’t get out much, in a dress that proclaimed she never stayed home."
Meet Alec: "Gerald’s playful words, five o’clock shadow, and slightly long hair all seemed to suggest a man of desultory casualness...But her instincts told her this was wrong. Gerald was a serious man who only pretended to be lighthearted and casual.”

What makes Luciana and Alec special?
They have awesome chemistry and banter right off the bat. Their conflicting agendas keep everything hopping along. I also love the over-the-top opulent setting of the Las Vegas Casino. It is just a world apart from reality, amything could happen, even dragons!

If you could be a shape-shifting dragon or would you rather be something else?
Oh, dragon for sure! I am also partial to shape-shifting wolves. I love the bestial nature of both dragon and wolves, and how it clashes with their human reasoning.

What’s your favorite thing about writing?
The creativity of putting words together to make a well-crafted story. I also, really enjoy getting to know my heroes and heroines and letting them struggle to be better people. I love it when they surprise me in dialogue and action and make me laugh aloud. It happens sometimes!

So, what kind of books do you like to read?
I read a lot of straight contemporary romance from the big names. I also try to read 1-2 craft books a month. Right now, I am trying to get better handle on how to connect with readers through social media.

Final question, if you were to write your own autobiography what would your title be and why?
Tenacious. It sounds kind of sexy--like salacious--which is rather misleading.  I like that. It is also true. I work and work at my goals, one baby step at a time. J

Thank you for stopping by today and would there be anything else you would like to add before you leave?
I appreciate very much the opportunity to connect with your readers!

SUSANNAH SCOTT lives in the Missouri Ozarks and is the lone female in a very loud household of males ranging in age from 4 to 40. While she jokes that the extreme levels of testosterone inspired her to write romance, it is really the love of creating an excellent story, and the occasional dreams of twenty-foot dragons, that wake her and send her to the laptop before the chaos of daily life ensues.
