Audiobook Review: And One Last Thing... by Molly Harper

For the longest time I was afraid to read And One Last Thing... by Molly Harper, I have been reading her paranormal stuff and loved it. Seriously, LOVED her stuff. However, I was a little afraid that I wasn't going to like this story, because it didn't have vampires or werewolves. A true fear, so I kept this far from my mind. I have basically have done all the Half-Moon Hallows books, I even tried Naked Werewolves books, and I started the Mystic Bayou books. So, I was running out of options to read/listen to Molly Harper. I decided to take a chance. So, fearful on what going to happen, which I shouldn't have. I started the story and I was hooked. Seriously HOOKED! I had so much fun with And One Last Thing.... Who would have guess?

Anyway, I absolutely loved Lacey Terwillirger. At first she's kind of down trodden, and doesn't know how to pick up the pieces of her life. However, it's amazing what she can do when you are stuck in a cabin and your only neighbor is a recluse cranky man. Basically, she rebuilding her life, and rediscovers who she is in the long run. It takes some trials and errors. It was fun watching her fumble along the way. I love that she learns to live with out her cheating ex. It's fun to see her interaction with Monroe, the recluse neighbor. They are a hoot together.

Overall, I was worry for nothing with And One Last Thing..., seriously I had fun. I laugh, and tried not get choked up, because I was out in public while listening to this story. I was thinking Sammy the Shark needs her own story and a love life, I mean it would be interesting after all she's a divorce lawyer. Great time. So much so that I had to listen to the story again. Also Amanda Ronconi does a super job.

Almost A Bride by Jo Watson (Review)

Almost A Bride showed great potential to being a fun romantic comedy, but I felt I was overwhelmed with all the cliches in the story. I love cliches. I mean that is what romantic comedies tend to have. A few would have been all right, but there were so many.

Like I said, Almost A Bride showed great potential with the Annie catching her boyfriend cheating on her in their bed, and having kinking sex, and there is so much more to this opening. Truly, it starts to spiral out of control at the beginning. However, I decided to stick on this train. About half the book, I could see the derailment of the story, but decided to stay on hoping that it won't happen. I probably should have DFN this book, but I hoped beyond all hope that it wouldn't go into crazy town too.

I don't know how to put into words on some of the ridiculousness of this story. Chris pretends to be Boyden from Australia with a terrible accent. I wish Annie would have said dude, I broke up with Boyden (by the way he's an imaginary boyfriend), and introduced Chris as her new boyfriend. Trevv and Tess are interjected into the story so many times. By the way Trevv is cheating sack of scum, and Tess is the hookup from work. You see them so much, by the end we don't even know if they are still together. The author spent so much time having part of the story, that we don't get to know what happen to them. Granted they did have stalk-ish feel to them. Still. However, Chris and Annie did have a happy ending, and I did like how Chris won Annie back. Very classic romantic comedy jester, with a grand love and sorry please take me back kind of deal.

Overall, I felt Almost A Bride was a train wrecked that derailed in crazy town. Did this story work for me. NO. I wanted it. The blurb sound like it could be amazing. However, it was too much and I felt overwhelmed. Yes, Almost A Bride worked for others. So, you might want to checkout their reviews to see what they loved about the story.

The Husband Games by Jamie Farrell (Review)

Let me just say that I adore chick-lit, because they are just fun, quirky, and entertaining. I did find this story quirky, but the fun and entertaining kind had me itching for more. There might be spoilers, because I don't know how to go around what bothered me in the story without the explanations. Here we go with my thoughts:

All right, the story takes place in a town called Bliss, and everyone is blissfully happy and wedding is there game. Okay, I'm fine with that, every town has to have a niche. However, Natalie is like the black sheep of the town, because he got a divorce. Oh dear god, she's a divorcee living in a town where everyone is like happily married. If that wasn't the biggest sin, being a bridal shop owner is like the devil incarnated. We need to pray for this child. Anyway, I actually have no problem with her sin, but one of town members does. Throughout the town she's know as Queen General (Marilyn Elias), but I thought of her more like the Queen Bitch. Honestly, I saw her more like a bully. She treated Natalie abdominally, and basically picked on her because Natalie was living in a town where everyone is blissfully happily married. I think I would have had more respect for Natalie if she had a backbone at the beginning, and slowly was chipped away. However, she just let QG pick on her. There were a couple of moments where she did decide to get a backbone, but it never lasted long. Another problem I had was her father. Her father was kind of seeing the enemy. I don't know, but my family that is big no-no. Granted my family doesn't get together all that often, but we know we have their backs. Then he had the audacity to say to try to work it out with Marilyn. Are you kidding me, that woman wouldn't listen to Natalie if her life depended on it. Plus, Marilyn even warned Natalie to stay away from CJ (the golden boy of husbands).

I guess I should mention this CJ and Natalie had a past. They were never together, but she kind of blamed CJ for the end of her marriage. First off, no one can ruined your marriage unless you let them. What happen to CJ and Natalie was an accident that happen at the Husband Games a few years back, but Natalie's marriage was already rocky she just used CJ as a scapegoat. Poor guy didn't know he was the blame of her faulty marriage. However, CJ and Natalie have an instant chemistry, because of the past and Marilyn basically calling her damage goods they weren't meant to be. Please.

Through most of the story, I was angry. A lot has to do with QG being a bully to Natalie. Seriously, Marilyn undermined what Natalie was trying to do for the Husband Games. Had Marilyn not been a complete bitch I would have enjoyed the story. It wasn't until we got to actual games that it started to get better and seeing CJ and Natalie working together. I know others who absolutely loved this story, but it made me angry. I don't take kindly to bullying, I have my reasoning. It just didn't work me. However, it could just this story and I might like something else written by this author. This is just my thoughts on The Husband Games.

Tasty Book Tours Review + Excerpt + Giveaway: Daisy Does It All by Kylie Gilmore

Daisy Does It All
Book Two Clover Park Series
By: Kylie Gilmore
Releasing May 8th, 2014

Blurb

Reality is overrated…

Exhausted single mom Daisy Garner is shocked when her blog about life with Darling Husband and Baby Delight in their charming Victorian home brings a national talk show to her door.

Amazing! Except she made the whole thing up.

Panic! Now she needs to borrow a Victorian house and find a man to play her fake husband on TV.

Travis O'Hare steps up for the role, as long as she'll marry him for real. He wants their son to have the stable home life Travis never had.

But before the wedding can happen, Travis and Daisy have to get through the interview with a ratings hungry host and a slick producer with ties to Daisy's troubled past. When a winter storm traps them all, it begs the question: can two people pretending at love finally discover the real thing?

My Thoughts:

How many of you all have ever done something impulsive without thinking about the consequences? I'm sure we all have; I know I have. However, now is not the time to air out my or your dirty laundry. Nope; today's focus is on Daisy Garner who is the heroine of Daisy Does It All

Now when we first meet Daisy in the story she has two lives: Real life and her imagined life. Now her imagined life is blissful. Who wouldn't want to live in their imagined life? Anyway, she did a big no-no; she posted her imagine life on line and passed off as real. Then she gets the break of a lifetime. Of course, problem is it's all imagine. So, basically goes to Travis for help and he sees this as the opportunity of a lifetime. After all, he's been wanting to marry Daisy ever since he found out he was going to be a dad.

All right, Daisy Does It All is definitely a chic-lit read. It's a fluff read, plain and simple. It's one of those reads you just think the characters are crazy and just go with the flow. Daisy, I just had to shake my head at times. By the way she acts, you would think she was the younger sibling and you would be wrong. She's viewed as the family screwup and is trying hard to change that. However, she finds herself struggling, because her stubbornness won't let her ask for help. Travis is a handsome guy who believes
"Love is something made up by corporations to sell more cards."
Yep, that's pretty jaded outlook on love. However, he wants Daisy to marry him so they can be family. So, he pushes hard to get what he wants. I know that doesn't sound romantic, but he does love Daisy on some level. He just doesn't know how to express himself well.

Now some people might find the whole situation silly. However, I viewed this more like a romantic comedy. Yes, it has a recipe for a romantic comedy in book form. We all know that every romantic comedy needs certain things to happen to make it a romantic comedy:

  1. Need a problem: Daisy lying about having a wonderful life and blogging about it.
  2. Solution: Travis comes in and rescues Daisy from the mess.
  3. Hiding the lie: Pretending to be a happy family during the interview
  4. The Reveal: Everything comes out in the open, every dirty secret.
  5. Happy-Ever-After: Must have in the story
Overall, Daisy Does It All was a light fun read. It's definitely a beach read, something that doesn't make you think to much. Yes, the characters are flawed, but their flaws make the story. So, if you are looking for that light read that's not going to bog you down, you could give Daisy Does It All a try.

“Don’t call me wifey,” Daisy snapped, marching upstairs to her second-floor apartment.

“What do you want to be called?” Trav asked, keeping pace with her up the stairs.

“I don’t know…honey or sweetie.” She jammed the key in the lock and burst into her apartment. She snatched a baby rattle, some blocks, and a stuffed rabbit off the floor. “Just grab everything.”
Trav stood there, doing absolutely nothing.

She glanced back at him. “Why aren’t you helping?”

He set down his toolbox. “Are you okay, honey-sweetie?”

She knew he was joking with the endearment, but it still made her throat go tight over the caring she heard there. She threw the baby toys on the sofa. “I really screwed up.”

“How so?” He stepped closer, but didn’t touch her, for which she was thankful. She didn’t want to cave and sob in his arms, letting him take care of everything. Still, she couldn’t help sharing her misery.

“I’m pretending to be happily married with a beautiful house and a darling sweet baby on TV. It’s all a lie! I’ll probably crack under the pressure and admit I’m a fraud. Everyone will hate me.”

“No, they won’t,” he said firmly. “It’ll be fine. Besides, we’ll be happily married the next day.”

She shook her head. “This is my worst one yet.”

“You’re really doing a number on my ego here.”

“Nothing personal,” Daisy rushed to say.

He cocked his head. “It’s a little personal.”

“I’m sorry. You’ve been a dream through all this. I’m fine. Let’s pack up.”

She turned and gathered the toys off the sofa, yelping in surprise as Trav scooped her up. He settled on the sofa with her on his lap. She dropped the toys and gave him a good glare over her shoulder.

“Trav, stop fooling around. We’ve got to get everything set up.”

She leaped off his lap. He grabbed her and put her back in place.

“We’re gonna take a little trip in the ol’ Trav time machine.”

She fought to get up, but he had her hips clamped firmly in his strong hands.

“Stop wiggling, honey-sweetie, or we’re gonna take a very different kind of trip.”
