Audiobook: White Hot by Ilona Andrews

YAY! I got a chance to finish listening to White Hot by Ilona Andrews. We continue with our journey Nevada and Rogan. First off, you will need to read Burn for Me before starting this story, because at the end of the story we see them part. We know that's not the end of them, because fate has a funny way to bring them together.

At the start of White Hot, you're not quite sure they are evening going to get back together, because Rogan was stupid. We also have Nevada coming more into her power. Then trouble starts and she needs help with Rogan, but she doesn't really want to go to him. They slowly conquer their relationship issues. They are pretty big issues, and hopefully the issues will no longer be an issue. I guess I have to wait until the next book to see if they are going to make it. Ugh.

Anyway, I liked White Hot, and I can't wait for the next book. I like that we actually got to see Nevada and Rogan getting together. However, more stuff happens that make you go whoa. Yes, this story keeps you guessing, the surprise of another family member trying to do something bad. That's the only downfall with checking out from the library.

Audio Review: Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews

The funny story is I checked out story from the library, but in audio form. I had a feeling I had the book, but wasn't 100% sure. I found it in my room, which is fine. I still listen to the story. I actually enjoyed listening to Burn for Me. I have to say that this is my first Ilona Andrews book, and I enjoyed the story. So much so that I have requested the next story. Which I will be listen to book two, but you need to hear my thoughts on Burn for Me. Here we go:

Burn for Me is market as a romance novel, and there are some hint of romance. Like I said a hint. The story focuses on Nevada Baylor trying to get Adam Pierce who is a pyrokinetic Prime. However, she gets tangle with Connor "Mad" Rogan. Rogan is trying to find his cousin's son. Yet, there is a lot going on in this story that you don't learn until the end. Kind jaw dropping with all that happens. Nevada and Rogan need each to stop what is going on. Yes, there is sexual tension between these, and they pretty much fight each other feelings through most of the story. They come pretty close.

Anyway, a good start to a new series. Yes, we get to see more of these two in the next book. Mainly cause they never completely get together at the end of this story, so we got to see if they will ever get together. There is a cliffhanger. If you are not a cliffhanger fan you might not want to pass on this, but if you are looking for adventure you might take a chance on Burn for Me.

Copy originally came from Buns and Roses, but checked out from the Library

Blood Guard by Megan Erickson (Review)

I guess I haven't read anything from Megan Erickson, but I have a ton of friends who have read her and love her. So, I decided to take a chance on Blood Guard. Actually, she had me with vampires. If that wasn't enough, the cover for Blood Guard was clincher. Seriously, this cover is yummy. Vampires and hot cover got me to read the story, but it was pretty good. I can't wait for book 2, because that should be good.

Anyway, we have Tendra who is basically living day to day. She's trying to decide if it's time to uproot herself and leave, because she has a feeling she should. However, she gets taken by this guy Athan. Athan isn't a typical guy, I mean he's a vampire. She's trying not freakout, and while given information that she's suppose to help save the human and the vampires. We have one sect that wants to enslave humans since they are inferior to vampires, and we have another group that wants to live with the humans. As the story continues we see that war is upon us.

I liked Blood Guard. I like how it's setting up the series. We have Tendra and Athan who are trying to do their duty to save everyone. However, key information is being with held, and we don't realize it until towards the end. That's when all chaos starts to ensue. Tendra and Athan's relationship a complicated one. Tendra is intended for Athan's brother, but he's lusting after her hard. Yet, Athan is duty bound to do what needs to be done even if it would cost him his life. Anyway, I actually like these two together once most of the information is laid out, again I said some stuff is missing. Overall, a pretty good start to a beginning of a new series. I like how things were getting laid out in this and I can't wait to see what Athan's brother does. He seems like a hot head and that should be interesting.

Tasty book Tours Q&A + Review + Excerpt + Giveaway: Good Vampires Go To Heaven by Sandra Hill

Quick Q&A with Sandra Hill
Describe yourself in five words or less.
A talented writer with a sense of humor.
Can you tell us a little about your book?
GOOD VAMPIRES GO TO HEAVEN: eighth book in the Deadly Angels series.  Zebulan is a good demon (vampire…a Lucipire) who finds himself in a hellish situation.  Who better to rescue him than the flame-haired vangel (vampire angel) Regina, who looks an awful lot like Satan’s sister!  Laughter and sizzle guaranteed!
How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?

Zeb has been a popular secondary character in the other Deadly Angels books, a quintessential tortured hero with a sense of humor.  Readers love him.  That’s not to say this book can’t be read without having read others in the series.  They are all intended to stand alone, as well as follow a series.
What types of scenes are your most favorite to write?
Anything involving humor.  A coven of witches in a hot air balloon rescuing my hero in GOOD VAMPIRES GO TO HEAVEN.  A modern women teaching Viking women how to make homemade condoms in THE RELUCTANT VIKING.  A lazy Viking who is forced to become a Navy SEAL in KISS OF SURRENDER.  An eighty-year-old woman, Tante Lulu, doing outrageous things in all my Cajun novels, including entering a belly dancing contest.  A Norse king who has a curse placed on him causing his penis to make a right turn (THE OUTLAW VIKING).  These kinds of things I enjoy writing most.
Can you tell us about your upcoming book?
THE CAJUN DOCTOR (May 30, 2017) features Dr. Daniel LeDeux, a burned out pediatric oncologist, who meets his match in Samantha Starr, a New Orleans divorcee who has a reason to hate doctors.  Poignant at times and hilarious at others, this book also features the popular Tante Lulu with her usual outrageous antics.

Hunted By Darkness by Katie Reus (Review)

Holy moly has Katie just blew up this world. If you have been following this series, you knew there were half-demons with Bo, and we just found what Nyx was, half-fae and demigod. Boom. Yes, we knew that Bo had a half-sister, but wait there's more. Guess what there is more Bo relatives. I'm kind of excited about we get to meet them in Hunted By Darkness.

Okay, I loved Taste of Darkness and Drake. Drake was oh so yummy. I don't know I think Bo might be tie with Drake on faves, because Bo is awesome. Oh my, he's uber protective over Nyx, but when they sucked into a hell realm he totally goes possessive and protective. Then he's trying to keep his half-demon under control. Extremely hard task. We also get a visual of his half demon, by the way Nyx totally digs.

Book high. Love Hunted By Darkness, because we get to meet Bo's half-brothers and he's not sure on how he feels about them or if he should trust them. Honestly, I can't wait their stories. We get to meet new characters I'm like I want them to find their mate. The list seems to go on and on. I can't wait to see who Katie writes about next. Also with new characters we see new creatures and how they fit into this world. Amazaballs!

Anyway, totally love Nyx and Bo. As I said totally love his possessive protective side. I think it's totally cute, because Bo sees Nyx as this quiet innocent creature that he's afraid to corrupt. Nyx is awesome, because she's all that Bo thinks but with great power. We see it demonstrated. It's scary crazy on what she can do. When they finally come together they calm each other down.

Love Hunted By Darkness so hard. I'm going to list them: 1) Bo and Nyx. 2) Checking out Hell Realm 3) Meet more Bo's family 3) Nyx puts her father in check, which he needed to. 4) Drake's mother is scary, but awesome. Crazy scary. 5) We are going to get more books. YES!!!!!! I love this so hard, but that's me. Those who have enjoyed the previous Darkness books are probably going to love this or at least I hope.

The Curse of Lord Standstead by Mia Marlowe (Review)

When I started Mia Marlowe's The Curse of Lord Stanstead, I thought it started a little slow. Then again we are building this world where we have people that have extraordinary powers among normal people. Actually, the characters reminded me of another group of extraordinary people know as the X-Men. Yep, this would be the regency version of the X-Men. So, if you love romance and X-Men you have met your match.

Anyway, we have Duke of Camden (kind of like Professor Xavier) who searches out this people with extra abilities, brings them in, and helps them harness their powers. He notices that there is someone with powers in the Darkin home, but he's not sure who. He sends Garret Sterling to find the person and bring them back. Garret finds Cassandra and is about to cause fire Almacks. Basically Garret and Cassandra begin their relationship shortly after meeting. It's not because of love, but out of necessity of controlling Cassie's powers.

So, the first part of The Curse of Lord Stanstead is helping Cassie to control her powers and she has to release some of her energy through relations with a person. I don't know how that all works, so I'm going to let that go. However, each assignment leads up to what happens to at the end. Yep, going vague here. Things start to speed up towards the end and something terrible happens to Cassie. What happens to Cassie breaks my heart, because she finds someone she could love and it's taken away. I have to say that I do love how Garret was willing to sacrifice himself to be with Cassie.

Overall, The Curse of Lord Stanstead is pretty good once you get passed the halfway point. First half they are building a working relationship and once they enter the field together things start to change between them. We also have Garret trying to shield himself away from Cassie, because he doesn't want the same fate to happen to her as his last girl. So, if you like the X-Men and romance novels you might checkout The Curse of Lord Stanstead out.

Dragons Will Fall by Susan Scott (Review)

All right, I received the chance to read Susan Scott's (also known as Susannah Scott) Dragons Will Fall. This is a little different from her Vegas dragons, which we enter a fantastical area where we see dragons, magic, and powerful kings. Basically, we are introduce to a magical kingdom.

We meet Kas who is a half-light, which is a person born from a magician and human. They don't have the full power of a magician and they aren't quite human. The half-lights aren't accept into either group, so they are driven out of the land. Kas is trying to help her people, but don't see her as much help. Her character broke my heart, because she doesn't feel accept anywhere. Throughout the story we see her feeling alone a lot of the times. We also have Cullen who is the Dragon King. He basically searches out Kas to help his people recover from the sickness that is slowly killing the dragons. Kas feels that she can't help them, because her magic is unstable. We see Cullen trying to help her control her powers. If that wasn't the only issue we have an uprise in the winds. We traitors left and right, and we aren't quite sure who is set to seek out the demise of the dragons.

Overall, Dragons Will Fall is a pretty good start to this magical world where we find deceit and intrigue. I like that we see the foundation forming to introduce us to this magical kingdom. It peaked my interest to see what happens next. I'm curious to see what happens next.

If You Dare by Jessica Lemmon (Review)

A few years back (2013) I read Jessica Lemmon's If You Dare when it was a novella. Fantastic little story about a haunted house, a bet, and Hawaii. However, I couldn't really remember much about the story. The one thing that stood out was the house. We jump ahead (2015), and Jessica has added more to the story. I could not tell you what was added if my life depended on it, because story blends so well with the old and the new.

Okay my thoughts on the revise longer version of If You Dare, still a great story. I still enjoy the chemistry between Marcus and Lily. Actually a lot of my thoughts from my original post still apply so if you want to check them out click on If You Dare. The only difference that I notice was a new love scene, and there probably more. Like aI said it blends well from old and new. Honestly, it's a great little story to put you in spooky little events, with Halloween just around the corner a great way to start the season of spookiness.

Even Vampires Get the Blues by Sandra Hill (Review)

I have to say that I enjoyed Even Vampires Get the Blues by Sandra Hill. I must say that this is my first time reading A Deadly Angels Book even though I have one on my kindle. Yeah, it was on sale, and I'm a sucker for a sale. Anyway, Even Vampires Get the Blues is the sixth book in the series (can't break tradition here).

For those who are like me who haven't picked up the series yet is about some vikings that weren't being too good the Archangel Michael basically saved their souls and turns them into vampire angels. Each one has a version of the deadly sin. Our hero today Harek Sigurdsson sin is greed. He was a very greed viking who was dabbling in the slave trade when he was a live. So, he thought money and power were the way to go, before he changed. As I'm reading this story I pictured Harek as Alexander Skarsgård, after all he did play a viking vampire in True Blood. Sorry I'm digressing. Basically, he needs to change his way otherwise he will be eternally damned. Jump ahead to the modern age and he still has a problem with greed among other things. He may be hot and sexy, but he still has a lot to learn.

Then we have Camille Dumaine who happens to an awesome Navy Seal (WEALS). Her nickname is Camo. On the outside she seems like a plain jane that could kick anyones butt, but looks can be deceiving as Harek learns while he escorts Camille to a wedding. Anyway, Harek gets roped into going cause he needs to fill Camille on an assignment they are working on together. However, its more than that he might have possibly found his life mate, but he is in serious denial. Okay, Harek is pretty vain, so he doesn't understand why he would be attract to such a plain jane like Camille. At the same time Camille is like oh no, I can't be attracted to him this would end up to being fourth disastrous relationship. Of course, Harek past comes into play to their budding relationship, which causes a blip.

All right, who doesn't love sexy viking vampire angel. Anyway, I liked this story, because we have humor. Harek cracks me up, because he's just so cocky. However, he gets knocked down a peg or two when he's with Camille. He's able to come to terms with his past and learn, and Camille was able to overcome her ancestors past which is the reason Harek and Camille have a falling out. We also find action with the fight between Lucipires (demon vampires, yeah I know I didn't touch on that). It has a great combination of action, steam, and romance. Eventually, I will get Harek's brothers, and I do like the take on the seven deadly sins.

Beyond the Darkness by Katie Reus (Review)

I have to say that Darkness series has been an interesting read. Overall, I like the series, and I did like Beyond the Darkness. However, I wouldn't say I loved the story, but it was interesting.

All right, so we have Keelin and she's free from her forced hibernation, and she plans to live her life to the fullest. However, there are some challenges that come with that, for instance she has someone trying to kill her. Anyway, she believes she can handle it and kind of gets pissed off when Bran steps in to help.

Now Bran, has found his mate in Keelin. I like how broaches Keelin, and he tries not to step on her toes. However, his protective instincts go into overdrive when he feels she's in danger. He's completely alpha in that sense.

Okay, a lot of stuff happens in Beyond the DarknessWe have someone hunting Keelin down. Keelin trying to fight her feels and urge to mate with Bran. Now that drove me nuts. Yes, I get that she wants to have a taste of freedom, but it got a little old after a while. We have Keelin's overprotective parents; talk about helicopter parents.

Overall, not bad. Yes, there was some steamy parts, but Keelin drove me nuts. Actually, my favorite part of the story was Bo and Nyx, because it sounds like they might get there story. That story might be filled with all sorts of complications, but that's beside the point. The demons, dragons, and demigod fighting as pretty cool. Beyond the Darkness was an all right read, and I would like to see how next story progress.

Demon Undamned by Andris Bear (Review)

Well, this lovely selection has been waiting for me patiently to read him. Who am I kidding Chamos (the anti-hero) hasn't been waiting for me patiently. Would you believe me that he has been giving me the stink-eye since August? The nerve  of some characters. Anyway, this is the fifth story in Andris Bear's Deadly Sins books. If you had read the first book Angel Unborn you would have remember meeting Chamos. If you haven't let me introduce him.

Forbidden: The Soulkeepers by Lori Adams

When I started reading Lori Adams Forbidden: The Soulkeepers, I was a little worry. Yes, worry. Why you ask? I was thinking I got myself into a Twilight kind of story, but with angels and demons. I have valid reasons for thinking this: 1) It takes place in high school 2) We have to guys vying for the heroine's attention 3) The hero basically tells the heroine stay away from me. Basically thrusting her into the other guys arms. However, my perspective started to change once I started to get more into the story. I still felt that it was Twilight-esque, but not so much. All right here we go:

We have Sophia St. James. She just moved to a whole new area and she's trying to figure her way through. She's dubbed "the Pastor's daughter" right away. Anyway, she meets Michael. She feels this instant connection, and he feels too. However, he can't do anything about it cause of his guardian angel status. He tries to avoid her the best of his abilities. Then Dante steps onto the scene. Now Dante and Sophia use to be an item way back when before he thrust down to hell. Now he's trying to get her back, because he loves her so much. So, you have this awkward love triangle going on. So, Dante trying everything in his power to get her back.

Okay, that was the simplest way to sum up the story. Basically you have good verses evil throughout the story. Michael and his family don't know what to think of Sophia. However, Dante and his crew are trying everything to get Sophia. I'm was surprise that I actually found myself enjoying the story, because I don't do well with high school drama. I think what did it for me, was more of the good trying win over evil. By the time I got to end of the story I was ready for more and I'm actually excited to see what happens next.

Overall, I believe those who enjoyed Twilight might actually enjoy this trilogy. So, if you are looking for a story that has angels going against demons and fighting over who should have the girl, you might consider reading Forbidden: The Soulkeepers a try. Seriously, I was surprise that I liked the story.

Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh

I got a chance to read Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh. I must confess that I haven't read the previous books. I know, but I honestly didn't believe I would be selected to read this from Penguin First to Read program. I went in with the attitude if I get "cool", if I didn't I was okay with that. Then I get the email saying I was selected. Then I actually saw the glossary in the front of the book and started to panic and thinking "What the hell did I get myself into." So, there's my initial thought. However, I needed to read Shield of Winter cause I committed to reading the book. With all that said, I have to say that I thought the book was fantastic. Yes, I was somethings that were troubling at times, because I was muddling through this blindly. I think I did all right. So, let me proceed on.

At the beginning of the story, we find Silence has been broken. If I had read the previous books I would know life before this happen, but I didn't and I had to move forward. However, things are a bit chaotic and they are Psy's are trying to find a way to stabilize what is going on, because their race is going psychotic. Basically, the Psy's need to find the Empathy, because they might hold the key to save their race. Of course it's a bit more complex than that.

For someone that hasn't read the previous books, I actually found the story captivating. I'm not saying to anyone who hasn't started to the series to go out get this book, because that wouldn't be wise. After reading Shield of Winter, I want to go back and start from the beginning. I'm amazed on how Nalini has this ability to build this world and suck you into the story. I enjoyed how Vasic and Ivy learn to work together and bond. Cause Vasic is an Arrow and they aren't know for feeling anything. They are basically cold killing machines, and to get paired up with someone that feels everything. It's a pretty hard concept. Ivy is an E-Psy and she feels everything.

Overall, great book. I'm glad I was selected to read Shield of Winter. Now I need to go back and catch up with the rest of the story. I those who have been following the series will still enjoy the storyline and will be anxious to see what comes next.

Hexed by Andris Bear

If any of you have read Angel Unleashed, you would definitely remember Jake Rider. Okay the more I think of it Jake has the mouth of an teenage boy. Seriously, you would think he had only one thing on his mind. Anyway, Jake and Lia find themselves in a mess and trying to help this guy named Ben. Poor guy has been stuck with a family curse and doesn't know what to do. Now it's up to Jake and Lia to help him solve the problem.

As filthy as Jake's mouth is I still love the guy and Lia is still a kick-ass heroine. However, they do have to call in some reinforcements for this problem. Overall, a quick read novella that gives you a little extra of Lia and Jake. So, if you love Jake and Lia and want a little more you might want to grab Hexed and see what they are up against.
