Audiobook Review: Whispering Rock by Robyn Carr

A few weeks back I listened to Whispering Rock by Robyn Carr. As you can see I have decided to continue on the series. In previous books we met Jack's sister Brie Sheridan, and we learn that she was a prosecutor. She was working on a major case and it didn't pan out, and the guy walked. The guy takes his revenge on Brie and goes on the run. Brie is having a rough year. Another person is having a rough year is Mike Valenzuela. He is too recovering, and him and Brie bond this book. You know who has a problem with this Jack. Those meddlesome older brothers. 

In Whispering Rock we still have that small town living where everybody knows your business. Okay it's not that bad, its mainly Jack who meddles in his sister's love life. Not only that we have a new family move into the area, which sets up scene for future books. We have tragedy, and heartbreak with one of the new members to the town. This story touches on death, and rape. Brie has to overcome some fear. Mike has to overcome his challenges. In the process they solve possible bigger problem in the area that has to deal with date rape drugs. A lot happens in this story, and a good majority of the story is intertwine with what's going on in the town. 

Overall, Whispering Rock was a pretty good listen. I enjoyed the story of Brie and Mike's budding romance. Their is another budding romance in the story too.

Audiobook Review: Shelter Mountain by Robyn Carr

As you know I started listening to the Virgin River series, because of the NETFLIX show. Yes, still finding a lot of difference. However, I'm sticking to the series cause I'm committed. Since I'm committed I finished Shelter Mountain, and I have to say I liked this book a little better than the first one. I liked Preacher, because he's a steady strong guy. He might be big, and quiet, but he's also a watcher. He notice that Paige was in deep trouble and needed help.

There are quite a few subplots going on. If you are one of those types of people that aren't too keen on multiple subplots, this might be your type of read. Even though they seem like filler and helping you understand the dynamics of the town. I also find out that it's a town of 600 instead of hundred, but still small. However, a good portion of the story is about Preacher and Paige's relationship development. This is definitely a slow burn kind of story. The main reason behind that is the story touches on domestic violence. Paige is domestic violence survivor, which she does feel the guilt, and believes it's her fault. It takes a long time for Paige to open up to Preacher about this. A lot of character development. One of subplots is Ricky and Lizzie, and they have a pretty big subplot in the story. They were hot and heavy teenagers in the first book, but they had to cool it. Their story plays a little role into the story here. They both had to grow up real fast. It's a small town, everybody talks.

Overall, it's getting better. However, I don't think Mel is all that smart, but it's a personal opinion. I still feel this way as I'm going through book 3. However, I did like this story more than first book. Preacher and Paige are cute together. Preacher is a good guy, and he had to show Paige that all men aren't bad. Domestic violence takes a toll on a person, and Paige survived.

Audiobook Review: Virgin River by Robyn Carr

I'm starting to find myself reading the books that were made into movies or series. Whoops. However, it's getting me to checkout other series I would never read. This is true for Robin Carr's Virgin River series. My husband have totally watched all the seasons that are on Netflix, and I think he's hooked. Since I'm waiting for the next season, I decided to listen to Virgin Rivers books.

Now if you plan to checkout this series you need to be prepared that the series has been modify quite a bit.  I think it's fine if you watch the series then read the book, but you need to expected to be different from the series. There is quite a few changes in the story. Actually a lot. Now my thoughts on the first book Virgin River. 

We have Melinda Monroe needing a change from her current situation. She need to shake things up, and move up to Virgin River. Going from L.A. to North California is a culture shock. SoCal and North Cal is different. Yes, they are both in California, but it would be culture shock, and Mel definitely felt completely lost. Granted she was not expecting a dump upon arrival. She slowly finds her way to stay up in Virgin River. Now it doesn't hurt that the handsome Jack Sheridan has taken an interest in Mel and wants to keep her there. He and others make it pretty impossible for Mel to want to leave a piece of heaven.

Okay, I wouldn't really call this a small town romance, because it's basically smaller than a town. It's less than 100 people. Small area, but I think the plan is to build up Virgin River. I mean they have to, because there's 20 something books. I think eventually it will be a small town. The story is like bar in Cheers where everybody knows your name, and they know your business. I'm going to be honest Mel's not my favorite character, and Jack is all right. They didn't really win me over, but I'm curious enough to see how this all plays out. So, yes, I'm going to continue the series. 

My advice on this series is you have to want to be invested in the story. I mean there are over 20 books, and the stories characters intertwine in the series. Yes, it will be beneficial to read the story in chronological order, because you are basically building a town. After listen to other books, they characters are going to be integrated into the story. Yes, you will be seeing other side plots. You need to commit if you are going to do this. Overall, it wasn't a bad read, and we have starting point.

His Majesty's Mistake by Jane Porter (Review)

I can't remember if I read this or I just bought it because it intrigued me. Looking back on my blog it looks like I just bought it on a Walmart trip planning to read. Here we are almost 10 years later finally getting to this story. I wanted a quick read, and Harlequin Presents is great for a quick read. Today, I bring you His Majesty's Mistake by Jane Porter.

We have Princess Emmeline d'Arcy she always felt "unworthy and impossible to love." You find out the reason why. Then we meet Sheikh Makin Al-Koury,  and believes Emmeline is flighty, self-center princess. Now you wonder how could he be around her when he can't stand her, glad you ask she's masquerading as assistant. Well, his assistant looks alike and so they traded places so she can meet with the father of her baby and tell him what was going on. Anyway, he finally figures out what's going on, and since it's a short story we are going stop there.

I like the story, I felt bad for Emmeline, because she was looking for love in all the wrong places. We have a handsome Sheikh wanting to save her once he got the full background. Great little quick read. In need a quick pick me up, or escape you might like.

Not sure where I got this little gem, it's been almost 12 years.

The Spainard's Untouched Bride by Maisey Yates (Review)

Last month I read The Spaniard's Untouched Bride by Maisey Yates. I did enjoy this fast pace story. We have Camilla Alvarez who lost her father, and home in a swoop. She decides to masquerade as a boy needing a job. Definitely resourceful. Matias Navarro acquires the Camilla's rancho. He's about to get everything he wants, but his brother swoops in and steals his bride. With that swoop, Matias is about to lose everything to his brother until he realizes Camilla is a girl. She's not gorgeous, but she can do.

Anyway, things quickly escalate, after all this is a quick read and we have to get to the ending. Is he going to let ambition takeover or will love save the day? The story is a little slow at the beginning, because he seriously doesn't realize Camilla is a girl. However, it does pickup and gets interesting when his brother's drama enters the picture. By the end of the story, I enjoyed these two bumpy ride, and wanted to find out with Matias ex-fianance and his brother. Overall, a pretty good quick read.

My Thoughts:
Today I will be sharing my thoughts on Wrangler's Rescue by BJ Daniels, which happens the first time I'm trying her books. When I was offered a chance to read this book, I was excited. First off, I have heard of her, and she was suggested to me to checked out when I was in Montana. I never did get a chance, but this was always in the back of my mind. We moved to Oklahoma, still have read her, but decided to try Wrangler's Rescue. The story can be read as a standalone, but I feel this story would be better read in order. 

Wrangler's Rescue was pretty good read. We have Cyrus Cahill about ready to make his declaration of love to Ashley Jo "AJ" Somerfield. However, he has to leave on a business trip. Things take a turn and he ends up dead, and now he has a widow. Yet, AJ smells something fishy, and she's willing to take a chance to find whats going on with Cyrus. 

Oh man the twist and turns this story takes along the way are fantastic. I felt the need to keep reading, because I needed to know what in the world made Cyrus marry some nobody. It was interesting and mildly suspenseful. Overall, Wrangler's Rescue was a pretty awesome read.

Library Find Audiobook Review: Haunted Destiny by Heather Graham

I have decided to try the audiobook selection at my local library, and I happen to find Haunted Destiny by Heather Graham. I figured what the heck, I haven't read/listen to a suspense book in a while. The one Krewe of Hunters I did enjoy, so why not try another, which brings us to the Haunted Destiny. The narrator for this particular story was Luke Daniels. I have to say he did alright. It took me a little time to get use to his reading style, but once I did he did an all right job.

Haunted Destiny is 18 in the Krewe of Hunters series. Don't worry if you haven't read any of the previous books, you will be fine. Yes, you will see Jackson Crow on this case, but he's not the hero of the story. Nope that honor goes to the local area agent Jude McCoy. They basically are trying to find the Archangel Killer, they believe he's on the Destiny. They're not sure what to think of Alexi Cromwell, after all she has a special gift. Yep, she can talk with ghost. Both Jude and Alexi have suffer some kind of lost in their lives which kind of draws them together. They both have a special kind of gifts, but one doesn't realize he has a gift.

Haunted Destiny wasn't a bad read. It took a little time to get into the story. It wasn't until it got to middle that Haunted Destiny started to get interesting. Yes, once people started going missing and deaths happen it definitely picked up. I liked how the ghost of the ship were willing to help Jude and Alexi catch the Archangel Killer. Like I said not a bad read.

Second Chance Girl by Susan Mallery (Review)

A couple of days ago I finished Second Chance Girl by Susan Mallery. I actually wanted to read this story, because cover is soooo adorable. However, the story was an all right read. We have Carol Lund, who was a bit of a downer. After awhile you kind of get tired of her saying she's not so special, and the boy next door isn't going to ever be in love with her. Then we have the player next door, Mathias Mitchell. He has many issues they all stem from his family. He's a bit of commit phobic, and this is the reason he's friend zone Carol. However, he's trying hard to fight his feelings for Carol. Actually, I liked Mathias a lot. Also in the story we follow Carol's sister and the Duke. I actually like their storyline a lot better than main story line. I kind of wish the story focused more on Violet and Ulrich; oh well.

Like I said it wasn't a bad read. I felt a little down as I was reading Carol's head. However, I did like her interaction with Millie, the giraffe. I also liked how they were trying to get Millie some friends that was sweet of them all. Anyway, Second Chance Girl was an all right read to me. I think the town is a bit adorable, so I'm willing to continue on with the series.

No Getting Over A Cowboy by Delores Fossen (Review)

What made me want to read No Getting Over a Cowboy: 1) The author. I haven't read all her books, but the ones I have they have been GOOOOOD. 2) The Cover. I was tempted to lick the cover. He's a mighty fine guy. 3) Liked the first book and thought hey I might need to read the next book. By the way, I have to read the third book. Seriously, I need the Roman's story. NEED!

Anyway, we are getting a closer look at Garrett Granger. He's the nice Granger, but life has dealt him some crappy blows. Let's recap what happen in Those Texas Nights, because he's in there. His father dies, his wife and him are not on good terms, wife cheats on him and is caught on film, now he's trying to pick up the pieces of his life. Then Nicky Marlow nee Henderson comes into his life. Now these two have a history, not only that she has some major baggage. You thought that Garrett had problems, they don't come pair to Nicky.

Basically, Nicky has formed a widows group and trying to make a retreat so they can grow and heal. What she has planned doesn't go according as plan, and brings a slew of issues.This was a fantastic story. We have Nicky and Garrett rekindling a romance, Nicky trying to fix herself while trying to keep secrets hidden. There are some pretty good secrets that aren't revealed until the end. Seriously, No Getting Over a Cowboy was a mighty fine read. I'm honestly glad Garrett's ex-wife didn't cause too much of trouble, she tried; however, she was squash like a bug. Towards the end it does get a little crazy, but in a good way. I definitely enjoyed the story. I did chuckle at parts, and got a little choked up, so worth the time. If you are in the mood to tangle with a cowboy, you might want to give No Getting Over a Cowboy a try. I can't wait for Roman's story.

Hard Justice by Lori Foster (Review)

I actually had a hard time with this cover. I was thinking, dude this isn't how I picture Justice. The deeper I got into the story, I was like okay now it make sense. Now to get the good stuff of Hard Justice. We learn that Justice is still having a hard time coping he's no longer MMA fighter. He still believes he has some fight in him, but he knows he's never going to be a great one. He's slowly accepting the fact that he's going to be a bodyguard. Now he's getting to his second assignment which involves Fallon Wade.

Justice is trying ever so hard to keep it all professional, but he seems something in her. However, he's trying to have the hands off in his mind. While Fallon is trying to spread her wings cause she's led a shelter life. At first they have a communication issues. He's trying to do his job, while she wants to have fun. On top of that Fallon is trying to find herself, because she hasn't much experience in life. The one time she did, well, it didn't go too well.

I adore Justice, because deep down he's a big ol' teddy bear that can kill if needed. Fallon is so sweet and innocent. I enjoyed Hard Justice. I'm excited about this series. I like that you see the guys come help Justice when he needs a little more help. Overall, I thought this was a pretty good read, and I can't wait for more.

It's some run of bad luck when Sophie Granger loses her business and gets left at the altar all in one day. Desperate to not appear jilted, Sophie begs Clay McKinnon, Wrangler's Creek's smoking-hot police chief, to pretend they're having an affair. But Clay refuses, leaving Sophie to retreat to the family ranch to lick her wounds.

Hoping to leave his disreputable past behind, Clay moved to Wrangler's Creek for a fresh start. But that looks unlikely when Sophie's ex-fiance shows up married to Clay's impulsive kid sister. Overcome, Sophie resuggests the affair but this time for real. Clay is hesitant. City-girl Sophie isn't usually his type. But he can't deny the desire she elicits or his yearning to have her plant her cowboy roots for good.
