Courting Innocences by Kimberly Dean ( Review)

I wanted to read Kimberly Dean's Courting Innocence, because had elements that screamed read me. I mean you have Erin who believes the Luxxor is a matchmaking service instead of an escort service. I mean that's kind funny. Then you have the forbidden attraction with Colton who happens to be the Erin's brother's best friend. Can't go against the bro-code. See that's the making of a fun story. However, I didn't fall in love with Courting Innocence. There are some good elements to the story, but there were some parts that had me go "What!?"

I guess I should get the thing that bother me the most off my chest, which was her best friend working at the Luxxor and not being up front about it. Yes, I understand that she had to keep it on the download, but Erin was her best friend stuff like that goes to grave. No repeats stuff like that. On the same token, Erin would probably still be waiting to make a move on Colton. I still don't have to like that part. The other thing that kind of bother me was Erin and Colton's relationship. It felt kind of like a dirty little secret. Okay, I get it, it was about honoring the promise Colton made when he was younger, but take it like a man get punched in the face by the brother. Yes, I was thinking that. Those are my gripes about the book.

The things I liked about the story. Even though one of my gripes was Erin and Colton's relationship, I still liked the relationship. They were hot and heavy when they weren't focusing on being each others dirty little secret. Plus, they were adorable. I also liked Erin's friends Sienna and Jason. I liked them so much I want to go back and read their story. The other person that played a big part in the story was Nina who was Erin's sounding board. Even though she was owner of Luxxor, she provided reason and a good friendship for Erin. Especially, when she need advice when it came to her relationship between Colton. I believe Erin would have left everything as the status quo, because it was something she wanted for so long. Why rock the boat. Plus, the ending kind of left me believing there might something in the future between Nina and a certain detective. Let's hope so.

Overall, not a bad read. It was hot and sexy at times. Okay, majority of the time. However, I did have a couple of hang ups, but it's not going to stop me from checking out other books from this author. Plus, I want to see how Sienna and Jason develop, so I have to go back to Courting Trouble. Maybe I'll gain a better understanding on Sienna being silent on the whole escort thing. Till next time.

RockStar PR Spotlight + Review + Excerpt: The Hierarchy of Needs by Rebecca Grace Allen

The Hierarchy of Needs
The Portland Rebels, #2
Rebecca Grace Allen
Samhain Publishing
July 7, 2015

Jamie Matthews is stuck in a rut. After hitting a wall with her dream career, she’s back in her hometown, living a life as monotonous as swimming laps in the neighborhood pool.

Being surrounded by her perfect brothers is a painful reminder of her failure to launch. The last bonfire of the summer is an ideal way to let off steam, especially when she runs into Dean Trescott, the playboy friend she had one hot-as-hell night with back in high school.

Since the day Dean met Jamie, he’s loved her beauty, talent, and smile that lit up the whole damn block. But dating isn’t an option. She has a bright future ahead of her, and he refuses to chain her to his—helping run the family business that’s barely staying afloat.

A “what-happens-in-Vegas” weekend was supposed to get their craving for each other out of their systems. But neither counted on the past repeating itself, drawing them together in even hotter and dirtier ways and dangling the possibility they might both be able to get exactly what they need…

Warning: A friends-to-lovers twice over story that contains some hot ’n’ heavy kissing in the waves, hair pulling, and a man who knows how to use his hands. It may also feature a few practical jokes—only the fun kind, of course.

My Thoughts:

Protector for Hire by Tawna Feske (Review)

Let me just say that Protector for Hire by Tawna Fenske is a cute read. However, I did struggle with some of the story. My main struggle was Janelle, because she just came off kind of ditzy at times. Granted she was out of her element and she didn't really know where she was going. Still throw a little bit of everything. However, I did start to warm up to her once she started to get settled in the wilderness of Montana. I love Swartz. He just so gruff and non-personal, but he has the dirtiest month and he's just so much fun.

So, we have these polar opposite stuck in the woods of in the middle of nowhere Montana (which I'm thinking is somewhere close to western Montana, but that is my personal opinion). Anyway, Swartz is attracted to Janelle, but doesn't want to compromise on the mission after all bad things happen when judgement goes out the window. He tries to focus on the one task and that is keeping Janelle safe, but he have all this sexual tension buildup. They basically go back and forth with matching wit. This makes for good comic relief.

Like I said, the story is cute and funny. However, Janelle just bother me on some level. I did love Swartz, and on some level I understood his exile. He had to be on his own to sort through his issues. It did help that when he was watching over Janelle, she did help him realize that he needed his family even if it took 10 years. Overall, not a bad read. A lot of people loved the story, but I just saw it as a good read.

Deception by A.S. Fenichel (Review)

I think I need to start off with the cover of Deception, because I love it. I love the night setting and castle in the background, very beautiful and romantic. Yes, I wanted to read this story, because of the cover. When decided to read this I didn't realize it was a two in a series. Even though it has it on the cover, I was enthrall with rest of the cover that I didn't even notice. However, I persevere and tackled the story. Granted I was a little lost at the beginning and it might have helped a little to read the first book. So, the first couple of chapters I was playing catchup, but once Dorian and Lillian ventured off to Edinburgh. That's when the story started to get interesting.

Now Dorian has had the hots for Lillian, but the more time he spends with her he's like "she's the one." However, Lillian has no desire to marry after all she's a demon hunter and there is so much uncertainty that it isn't worth getting involved with a man and all it entails. She's open for flings and becoming friends afterwards. Yet, Dorian wants to be more than a fling, so he decides to take it somewhat slowly but sleep with her. Plus, she views herself as a nobody. She's a person, but she just never viewed herself becoming more than some mans mistress, after all she comes from lowly birth. Dorian sees that she's more than that and is willing to do anything to prove that she's worth more than what she has deem herself worth. I really like Dorian, because he's just persistent. I also like Lillian stubbornness. Normally that would grate on my nerves, but I could see where she's coming from. I admire that she didn't cave to Dorian, because it would have been so easy to say yes. She did truly care for him and worry about what would happen if they became one.

Overall, Deception was an interesting read. You have these two people who come from different backgrounds come together, but they are fighting for the same cause. I didn't talk much about the demon issues. Yes, it's pretty bad and they are trying to clean up the mess that was made. Not only that they have traitor. Never easy thing to deal with. Yes, you have the romance during  difficult time. However, it is what draws Dorian and Lillian closer. I have to say that it is definitely a unique read that has me kind of curious on to see what happens next. They are just touching the tip of the demon problem.

Beyond the Cut by Sarah Castille (Review)

Who knew I would find myself enjoying a MC romance. It's not something I would have seek out, but I'm enjoying the Sinners's Tribe Motorcycle Club books. A lot crap is going down, the sinners are trying to patch over other gangs to build up their numbers so they can fight against the Jacks. However, one of the gangs they are trying to patch over comes with issues. For instance, they are up for president re-election, and the current president would like to patch with the Sinners while the other would like to patch with the Jacks. That's going on; lots of complications. If that wasn't enough we have Cade wanting just one woman, Dawn.

The Cade and Dawn situation is a bit complicated. We have Cade who is a manwhore. When you have a lines like:
"Voted 'Least Likely Ever to Settle Down' five years in a row. Winner of the 'Most Sweet Butts in the Bed at One Time' prize. 'Biker Manwhore of the Year.' Author of 'How to Get Laid in Less than Thirty Seconds and Leave Your Friend Drinking Alone at the Bar.' The man who researched beds big enough for six. The list goes on."
For him to want a woman more than once is a huge deal. Like I said it comes with complications. Dawn has no desire of being a biker's Old Lady, been there done that, and  it didn't end well. This attraction between Cade is kind of scary. On top of that she's trying to get her kids back from her ex-husband, who happens to be an asshole and another biker. Remember I mention about another dude wanting to become a president and patch over to the Jacks, well Mad Dog is that guy. Mad Dog seems to believe Dawn still belongs to him. Cade sure knows how to pick his women.

Anyway, Beyond the Cut was a little slow at the beginning. Basically, we have Cade trying to get Dawn into his a little more than once. When the trouble arrises with Mad Dog, Cade goes into protective mode and would do anything for Dawn. It's more than wanting her in his bed, but he doesn't know that. I like how Cade tries to help Dawn realize that not all biker dudes are like Mad Dog. This is hard for Dawn, because she has been through a lot. In her short life she has suffer all types of abuse, so she has this trust issues.

Once the action starts in Beyond the Cut the story starts to pick up pace and there were times I just trying to turn the page as quickly as I can. Overall, it's a pretty good read. I'm looking forward to see what happens next, because the thing with Jacks isn't going to magically disappear. Sounds like they are gearing up for war.

Demon Hunters # 2
By: A.S. Fenichel

When Demons threaten Regency London, only a Lady can stop them.

Lillian Dellacourt is beautiful, refined and absolutely lethal. She’s also the most feared and merciless demon hunter in The Company. She’s come a long way from the penniless seamstress’s daughter sold to the highest bidder, and it wasn’t by trusting a man, let alone an exiled Marquis with more on his mind than slaying the hellspawn . . .

For Dorian Lambert, Marquis de Montalembert, being sent to keep track of Lillian is no mean task. He’s wanted the fiery vixen since he first heard of her five years ago. But wooing the lady while fighting the demon uprising is no easy feat, especially when the lady’s tongue is as sharp as the Japanese sai blades she favors for eviscerating the spawn of hell.

These two will have to learn to trust each other fast, because the demon master is back, and he’s planning to turn Edinburgh into a living hell…
