SHE'S TAKING CHARGE

Prim, proper, and thrifty, Eve Dinwoody is all business when it comes to protecting her brother's investment. But when she agrees to control the purse strings of London's premier pleasure garden, Harte's Folly, she finds herself butting heads with an infuriating scoundrel who can't be controlled.

HE'S RUNNING THE SHOW

Bawdy and bold, Asa Makepeace doesn't have time for a penny-pinching prude like Eve. As the garden's larger-than-life owner, he's already dealing with self-centered sopranos and temperamental tenors. He's not about to let an aristocratic woman boss him around . . . no matter how enticing she is.

BUT LOVE CONQUERS ALL

In spite of her lack of theatrical experience—and her fiery clashes with Asa—Eve is determined to turn Harte's Folly into a smashing success. But the harder she tries to manage the stubborn rake, the harder it is to ignore his seductive charm and raw magnetism. There's no denying the smoldering fire between them—and trying to put it out would be the greatest folly of all.

Rescuing the Bad Boy by Jessica Lemmon (Review)

I love Jessica Lemmon's Rescuing the Bad Boy. This story just grabbed me from the first page. However, I had to put it done, because of other circumstances. This is one of the stories I wish I had a clone at times, but I finished it. Boy did it get me. Oh my gosh what an amazing story.

Okay, we have Donovan Pate who grew up in Evergreen Cove, but he had no desire to ever return once he left. However, he has to return for the home that was left to him. All he wants to do is sell it and get the hell out of there. Too bad things can't go according to plan. Basically, he finds out he can't sell the house until after a certain charity event, and he tries to talk Sofie Martin out of it. Well, she's not having any of that and she plans to stand up to Donovan.

When Donovan shows back up, he tries to renege the contract his grandmother signed. That whole situation doesn't look good, but he's unable to find a loophole so he's stuck with Sofie around the house getting ready for the charity event.

All right, there is a lot of tension between Donovan and Sofie. A lot has to do with the night seven years prior and boy he was a jackass. So, Sofie is trying to protect herself from getting hurt again, but Donovan can't seem to stay away from her. Finally, they cave! Of course, they have to issues to work through. Like Donovan overcoming his past and seeing that he's worth saving. There isn't much wrong with Sofie, but she just needs to be understanding to Donovan and willing to go through a little pain.

Man this story is an emotional wrecking ball of a read, but oh so good. I love Rescuing the Bad Boy, because it's definitely a story about overcoming the past and finding happiness. I can't wait for Connor's story, because he just seems like so much fun. Most of the parts that had me cracking up were with Connor in them. So, grab yourself a plate of shrimp scampi and s'mores and enjoy Rescuing the Bad Boy. Definitely a worth while read.

A Duke But No Gentleman by Alexandra Hawkins (Review)

Alexandra Hawkin's A Duke But No Gentleman is definitely not for everyone. Some aren't going to like the hero and say he isn't a real hero. That might be a tad bit true. However, Alexandra's heroes aren't really hero material, they tend to be down right scoundrels. So, if this isn't your type of guy you might want to move on, but if you are willing look past bastard of a hero you might find this enjoyable. Enough of the preamble and lets get on with my thoughts.

I for one do enjoy Alexandra Hawkin's writing, and I did enjoyed her A Duke But No Gentleman. At the beginning of the story we meet Tristan Bailey Rooke, Duke of Blackbern and Cason Brant, Marquess of Norgrave. Now these two guys have been best friends for ever, and practically did everything together even shared women. Yes, they sound like upstanding gentleman <insert the eye roll>. So, when Blackbern encounters Lady Imogene he kind wants to keep her a secret, but his friend is all too keen. Basically, the wager is established. It can't be any simple wager, oh no it has to be the claiming of her maidenhead. We see them trying to charm and seduce the young lady. Neither one of them actually plays fair, but Norgrave is a bit more ruthless in his pursuit.

Now Imogene is taking in her first season and enjoying the attention that she is receiving from these two scoundrels. Yes, they are scoundrel. However, I actually thought Blackbern wasn't as bad as Norgrave. Norgrave gave off this icky, slimy feeling. However, that's how you are suppose to feel and you are suppose to like Blackbern more. Imogene actually is drawn more to Blackbern. Even though Blackbern is a scoundrel you are given the impression that he is better between the two.

I stand with those who liked A Duke But No Gentleman. I had no problem with Blackbern lacking a moral fiber. I did like the guy. *Spoiler* I could have fine without the rape scene, but it was Norgrave's way at attacking Blackbern. Norgrave definitely had no morals, he was ruthless. I did like the interaction between Imogene and Blackbern, they were kind of fun to watch there banter.

Like I said at the beginning this story is not for everyone. I think those who had enjoyed Alexander's previous work will enjoyed this story. It is a little rough at times, but it was still enjoyable. If you don't mind a not quite a hero guy, you might enjoy A Duke But No Gentleman.

The Perfect Bargain by Jessa McAdams (Review)

Last week I was able to read The Perfect Bargain by Jessa McAdams. I personally thought it was cute story about a girl who was trying to escape her meddling friends from fixing her up with more bad dates while she recover from a broken heart. However, they couldn't let it go so they decided to follow her to Scotland. To preempt their strike she was going to have a fake boyfriend and breakup with them before they got there, but change of plans they decided to come early. Now she needs to find a fine specimen to pretend to be her boyfriend, but she's in the small town where the only guy that is even is decent is pub owner. What sane person would want to go along with this harebrained scheme? Basically, we have the bases of our romantic comedy in The Perfect Bargain. Let's meet our girl.

Sloane Chatfield. Oh boy, where do you begin with her. All right Sloane is nursing a broken heart in search of a "Jamie Fraser" of her own. The best place to do this is Scotland. So, she heads off to Scotland regroup and get away from her meddling friends. However, they decided to invite themselves along. You can't tell the meddling type to stay out of your life, because they can't. She finds herself in a pickle trying to find a pretend guy to show her friends she's doing all right. In the small village there is one guy, but he thinks she's like a loon. A pretty loon, but still a loon. Now we meet Galen Buchanan. He's the pub owner, and he's a bit financial strapped so he's willing to play along with Sloane.

In some aspects it's kind of like The Wedding Date where the Debra Messing pays a guy to go with her to the wedding, at least Galen isn't a male prostitute. He kind of is, but doesn't do professionally. Anyway, this story is cute. We have this chemistry between Sloane and Galen, but they kind of want to ignore it or believe it isn't there. Before Sloane's friends arrive they get to know each other, but every time they draw close to one another one person says something making sure the other party remembers it's a paying situation. It's like two steps forward, one step back. I actually love them together, because Galen helps Sloane loosen up. Seriously, the girl was wound up tight.

Overall, the story was cute. It's romantic comedy worthy. The Perfect Bargain has all the elements that make a romantic comedy fun. I look forward to How to Marry Highlander Stories will popup. So, if you are looking something light and fun, why not give The Perfect Bargain a try.

Can a scorching affair with a bohemian beauty tame a motorcycle man with a dark side? Rachael Johns takes the wheel in the sexy series co-written with Megan Crane, Jackie Ashenden, and Maisey Yates.

Travis “Cash” Sinclair values only two things from his days with the Deacons of Bourbon Street: his prized Harley Davidson and the man who gave it to him. But now Priest Lombard is gone, and Cash has inherited the Deacons’ clubhouse—not to mentions its unexpected tenant. She’s exactly the type of woman he tries to avoid: all incense and art, with a sharp tongue that promises trouble. Dirty Beautiful Rich (Part 5) by Eva Devon (Review)

We have finally come to the finally of the Dirty Beautiful Rich (Part 5). Yes, we finally find out if Damien pulls his head out of his ass. At the end of Part 4, we see Julie going back in the bar with another guy while she leaves Damien outside. WHAT! Yes, she ditches Damien. So, we are left hanging and that's why I said what I said at the beginning. Which it was ballsy of Julie to do what she did. Don't worry people, she doesn't do anything stupid with Fion. Damn the man is such a good guy. Seriously, Fion is an awesome guy. Don't fret no love triangles popping up, Fion just is a great sounding board for Julie. I would love a story for Fion, but I don't know how you get him a story. Okay moving on.

Julie and Damien have a lot of issues to overcome. I like that Julie has all these people there trying to protect her. She has Stella, Kat, Margaret (Damien's grandmother), and Alanna (Damien's mother). I even surprise to say that Alanna was even championing for Julie, because in the previous stories she came off as a bitch. She's still kind of is, but she's working on it. One of the biggest change is Julie and her growth during the serial. When we first met her she was timid, shy, and blended in, and now she's no longer hiding. Damien had some growth and slowly learned to overcome his grief.

Dirty Beautiful Rich has been a beautiful story of overcoming adversity and trials. I enjoyed that both Julie and Damien were able to look past each other flaws, but I would bet Damien would say that Julie didn't have any flaws. The ending was quick, but tidy. Overall, this is something that should be read all at once. It's sad to see this all end.

Blame It On The Kiss by Robin Bielman (Review)

YAY! We have book two of the Kisses in the Sand books. In Blame It On The Kiss we focus on Honor Mitchell and Bryce Bishop. Okay, I love this story. It's one of stories I just couldn't put down. Let share the greatness of this story and hope to not overshare, because I LOVE IT!.

If you read Keeping Mr. Right Now you would remember Honor and Bryce from the previous story. Honor is the one to help Sophie's revamp her image, and Bryce is best friends with Zane also his agent. Now we are getting ready for Zane and Sophie's wedding. However, a lot has happen and here we go.

Bryce and Honor kind of have a past together, sort of. Here's how they are linked together: Payton. Who's Payton you ask? Well, she's the ex-girlfriend to Bryce, and best friend to Honor. Yeah, gets kind of complicated, but she's no longer in the living. Anyway, her memory is haunting these people. Basically, Payton never told Bryce she was extremely sick and just dumped. She kind of left Bryce with a shattered heart. So he decided to make a rule:
Never get too attached and never give a woman power to damage his heart again.
Damn, that sucks for the next girl. Then we have Honor who has been dubbed by her friends as the serial dater. Yeah, these two are going to make a fine pair.  If that wasn't there only problem, it would be Payton.

Payton plays a huge part in this story, because every time Honor and Bryce draw close together they remember Payton. Talk about a major buzz kill. They are both compound by guilt, but more on Honor's side. A lot of Honor's guilt stems from a relationship that had gone wrong in high school. Her ex-boyfriend did a number on her. He was a total jerk for calling her selfish. Anyway.

LOVED Blame It On The Kiss because it was a fantastic read that dealt with overcoming guilt and regret. Plus, there were some fantastic lines like:
Walking with our heads down trying to pull the weight of our mistakes doesn't make them go away. Choice is the only thing that conquers regret. Choosing to learn from our past and waking up with hope on the pillowcase beside us rather than remorse.
Not only that it had some humorous parts especially, when Midge and her "Street Team" enter the scene. Those ladies crack me up. So, if you want a happy sappy story with a little more steam than a normal Bliss book, you might consider Blame It On The Kiss. This story can be read as standalone if you haven't had a chance to read Keeping Mr. Right Now.

Blurb:
The one guy she shouldn’t want…

Honor Mitchell has lived with guilt and regret for a long time, so when she promises to do the things on her dying best friend’s wish list, she’s determined to follow through and do something right for a change. But when she’s thrown together for wedding duties with the one man who complicates her vow–just by looking at him–she has to put her faith in Bryce Bishop’s pledge to help her, no strings attached.

Bryce’s near one-night stand with his ex-girlfriend’s best friend a few months ago might have been a mistake, but helping the beautiful, free-spirited Honor with her promise isn’t. His trust in women is shot, but he can’t help but play his best man card to his advantage and help Honor tick off the items on his ex’s list, even if it puts him in a no-win situation. Because his assistance might get Honor what she wants, but suddenly being the do-good guy puts his plans–and heart–in serious jeopardy.
