Northern Light by E.J. Russell

eARC: Drawn Together by Lauren Dane

I received the opportunity to read Drawn Together by Lauren Dane. Let me give the back story to how I came about reading the story. Back in July I signed up with Penguins First to Read program which gives readers a chance to preview books that are coming soon from Penguin. I selected a couple of books I would be interested in reading and they would randomly select people to read. Honestly, I didn't think I had a shot. So, to my surprise I was selected to read Drawn Together.

I probably should go back and read the previous books to fully appreciate the story. However, I mange to read the story and wasn't too lost. Yeah, I might have had a better understanding of the other characters in the book. Hey, I have been known to jump into a middle of a series.

Anyway, I'm just going to focus on my thoughts of the story. Overall, I enjoyed the story. I enjoyed the relationship between Raven and Jonah. Yes, Jonah is a bit demanding. However he seem like the type of guy who goes after what he wants no matter what. Raven is a bit rough on the edges and doesn't let anyone in. Yet, Jonah manages to worm his way in Raven's life. So, they tend to have bumps along the way. I really liked how Jonah was there for Raven when she really need someone.

As I said, I manage to get through the book. Yes, Drawn Together does have some pretty hot, rough sex scenes. Not a bad story, and I actually liked when Raven called out Jonah's ex-wife and called her a whore. So, if you don't mind rough hot sex, you might enjoy Drawn Together.

That's Right I read Zombie Novella's

You are reading the post title correct, I did read not one, but two zombie romance novellas. I know what you are all thinking: NO WAY, she doesn't like zombies. Which you would be correct on that assumption. However, I kind of wanted to read them. I must have a fever or something. Anyway, I bring you two different zombie romance. So, here are the titles that I did read: One Thousand and One Nights by Ruth Browne and Wish Upon a Star by Michelle McLean. So, let's get started on my thoughts of these zombie novellas.

All right. I'm not sure how I really feel about One Thousand and One Nights. I liked the story, but just didn't love it. I kind understand why Alesky doesn't fully trust Sheri, after all she was bitten by a zombie. The fear of her turning against the compound is high. Yet, she doesn't and is forced to live as a prisoner. Yes, I know that it's a zombie romance, but it's a romance and it should have a happier ending. However, the ending did leave me kind of like "huh". The story is written well and book blurb did intrigue me. In the long run kind of left me hanging at the end.

Now Wish Upon a Star I did really like. I don't normally go for reunited lovers, but hey this story worked for me. Ceri McKinley always dreamed her ex-fiancĂ©, Jason Crickett, would always return. Even though he broke her heart by dumping her right before their wedding. Jason needs a favor and Ceri is the only one to really help him. So, they go talk to Ceri crazy ex-husband to see if he would give Jason and his father his brother so they can give him a proper burial. Little did they know that they would be walking into the unexpected.

I'm not kidding, Ceri's ex-husband is crazy. I'm surprise they are able to come out alive out of the zombie invasion. Yes, this zombie romance did have a happier ending and I am a sap for happy endings.

Here you go, two different zombie romance. So, if you are looking for zombie reads for Halloween, you can take a look at these two.

Lovers Unmasked (Brazen Anthology)

Halloween is the perfect time to put away that good-girl persona and bring out that inner vixen. Within Lovers Unmasked you see that in the stories presented. Each one brings a Halloween party to life. So, get your costume ready and have a time with Lovers Unmasked.

Seducing Mr. Right
Katee Robert

So, the story is about Danielle who goes to the company Halloween party to meet up with a guy who she believes is the mail guy. However, Grayson is more than the mail guy, he's actually the owner.

Lying is never good to start off a relationship. I can understand where Grayson was coming from; he's worth a lot of money, and most girls just see dollars signs and not his true self. So, he figures he found someone special in Danielle.

Seducing Mr. Right was alright. I do actually like Katee's stories, but I think this one just a miss for me. It's still a hot steamy read, but overall an okay read.

Tempted by His Best Friend
Cari Quinn

All right, now this one was freaking hot. Yes, Halloween tends to be the holiday to put on your most slutty outfit and bring out the inner vixen. Well, Stephanie has always followed the rules, but she wants to make a change in order to capture the eye of her best friend Landon. However, Landon sees her just fine and dandy, but he would like to keep Stephanie in the dreaded friend-zone. Even though he's attracted to her. Idiot.

Yes, this friend to lover story is smokin' hot. Yes, it's a bit of a Cinderella kind of story. However, Stephanie does know her prince and tries to convince him she's the right princess. Or we can go with Stephanie is Landon's vixen to his fox. Anyway, Landon isn't quite ready for all the rule to change. Let's be honest he's afraid. LOVE, Tempted by His Best Friend.

Wicked Games
Samanthe Beck

All right, if you had read Lover Undercover, you would remember Stacy Roberts as stripper sister, who tended to get in trouble. Well, in Wicked Games Stacy is getting some nasty letters, that she pretty much has been ignoring. However, her sister finds them and basically calls in the reinforcement. Which happen to be her boyfriend and his friend, Ian. Now Ian and Stacy use to be hot and heavy until she freaked out and dumped him. Now thrown back together can Ian get Stacy back? Good question.

Honestly, I like Kylie's story better. Hey, Stacy's story is still good. Yep, there is a little danger and gotta love a hero whose an idiot. Yep, I call Ian an idiot, because his stubbornness almost cost him his love. However, when it was all said and done he came back to save her. Still steamy and I liked the story.

Protecting What's Theirs
Tessa Bailey

The last story in this anthology. First off Protecting What's Theirs is a follow-up story to Protecting What's His. So we get see what happens to Derek Tyler and Ginger Peet. You know what this was just a sweet story. Yes, there is some hot sex, but overall sweet and quick. Talk about some misunderstanding between the two of them. Ginger is afraid Derek is getting tired of her and about ready to give the boot. However, there is more going on than he wants Ginger to know. Gotta love misunderstandings.

Overall, all the stories are pretty good. My favorite happens to be Tempted by His Best Friend. However, each story brings some Halloween mischief and steaminess. So, you are looking for some hot Halloween reads you might give, Lovers Unmasked a try.

Revisit: Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren

All right back in February I read Beautiful Bastard. Click on the title and it will take you to my original thoughts on the story. If I had my star rating up at that time it would have been one star. Now you are wondering why I would re-read this book. Simple: It was HEA Book Club book of the month. I figure I should give it another go, since it's the book club selection. Maybe I judged it a bit harshly the first go round. After all, I do give books second chances. Sometimes it doesn't happen right away, but eventually it does.

Anyway, I started re-reading. You know what, I actually liked the story this go round. Maybe I'm in a different place in my life or maybe, just maybe I didn't see the characters as I should have. Granted Bennett Ryan is still an a-hole, but he does have some endearing qualities. Now you are wondering what I found endearing about him. Yes, he is a bastard in the terms of being despicable and vicious. However, as I'm reading the story he does change along with the relationship with Chloe Mills. When I first re-read the book I saw the relationship as toxic, but as I'm reading again I think kind of help each other out. In some weird kind of way they need each other.

Yes, this story will rub some people the wrong way. I happen to be one of those people at first. However, the second go around I did find some of the parts kind of funny. I think this go around I'm actually interested in pursuing the other books. Would I have given this book a second look at if it hadn't been for book club? Probably not. So, I have to thank Sara at HarlequinJunkie for suggest reading this book for book club. Now I'm not going to go all crazy and give it five stars. That would mean I can't live without the book. Who knows I might feel like re-reading again and who knows it might go up again. I can say I liked the book, which is a big jump.

Now look at those abs and tell me that this isn't worth lusting after. Seriously, they are scrumptious. I think Katie has a winner with this cover. Plus, the story is just as good as the cover. So, let me know what you think of the cover and what books I should add, because of the cover.

ARC: Season for Scandal by Theresa Romain

All right, I finished reading Season for Scandal by Theresa Romain. Well, I haven't read the first two books. I know, I know, but I do own them. I'm going to make it my goal to read them before Christmas. Please feel free to bug me about them. Anyway, we are going to focus on Jane Tindall and Edmund Ware, Viscount Kirkpatrick, story first.

Let's be honest, marriage of convenience are never ever convenient. This is why they're my favorite to read. Yes, the hero and heroine believe that it's just easier to find someone that will suit their purpose, but in the long run they find love with each other. It's getting to the happily ever after that can be a bit tricky.

Now Jane has been in love with Kirkpatrick for sometime, so when she found herself in a bit of a pickle and needing rescuing it was no hardship to yes to Kirkpatrick. However, Kirkpatrick saw Jane as a way out and possible prevent scandal to his name. Now you are wondering what could possible be scandalous about Kirkpatrick since he's probably the most decent, kind-hearted gentleman you could ever find. Of course, every gentleman has his secrets. Granted his isn't hiding a secret love child or a harem of woman, his is more like a family secret. Those family secrets throw you under a bus, maybe we should carriage since it's the regency time. Sorry, digressing.

Of course, Jane wants more than what Kirkpatrick is willing to offer. Which causes a couple of rough patches in their marriage. Plus, it doesn't help that someone from Kirkpatrick's past is causing trouble. Hate when that happens. So, you get to watch Jane and Kirkpatrick fumble through the story. Granted it would so much easier if Kirkpatrick would open up to Jane. Then again we wouldn't have much of a story without the secret that he keeps.

Anyway, I found Season for Scandal quite witty and entertaining. I love dynamics between Jane and Kirkpatrick. They are such a fun couple, especially as they fumble along. I love Jane was willing to be herself no matter the cost. Plus, Jane stubbornness pretty much saves Kirkpatrick from his own self-destruction. Yes, Kirkpatrick is a decent guy trying to atone for the pass. Sometimes you just have to let it go. A fun holiday read that leaves you with a sappy Christmas ending. I personally think that Christmas stories should leave you ooey-gooey inside, otherwise they are doing something wrong. Anyway, if you are looking to start your holiday read, you might want take a look at Season for Scandal it's a misguided adventure of marriage of convenience.

Can't Let Go by Jessica Lemmon

Yes, Jessica Lemmon's new novella Can't Let Go  has a cliffhanger ending. However, if you read Tempting the Billionaire you would remember Aiden Downey and Sadie Howard had a quick starting relationship that turned sour quickly.

In Can't Let Go, we see what happen during the short period Aiden and Sadie were together. This would be the scene we didn't get to see in Tempting the Billionaire. Since Tempting the Billionaire focus more on Crickett (Sadie's best friend) and Shane (Aiden's cousin).

Bottom line: A quick read that will leave hanging. However, Can't Let Go fills in the gap and prepares you for Hard to Handle. Now I wonder how Aiden is going to repair the damage he inflicted. That boy has some major ground to makeup for his stupidity. Overall, I liked the story.

Audiobook: Rescue My Heart by Jill Shalvis

So, September's audiobook selection was Rescue My Heart by Jill Shalvis. Confession time: I actually finished listening to this story like three weeks ago. I know, I need the cone of shame. Anyway, I have been putting off writing my review. Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoyed the story. I was just lazy, and I figure I could wait till I found a day that didn't have anything on. Ok, that's a lie too, because there could have been some other days. I'm not going to explain myself to you guys, you just need to deal with.

We have reuniting past lovers. Normally, I don't care for these types of stories, but this one is good. When Adam Connelly was growing up, he was punk and up to no good. So, he went into National Guard to straight his life out. In doing so, he broke the heart of Holly. I can't remember her last name. You got to remember I'm doing this all by memory. Anyway, he goes off, one miss ends up bad and he ends up PTDS.

Back to Sunshine present day. Now Adam trains rescue dogs, but he doesn't go out to field. However, Holly comes to her concern about her father, because she hasn't heard from him in days. Of course, a bad storm is coming, so she goes to Adam for help. During this journey they rediscover they have some unfinished business.

Honestly, I think this is my second favorite book in the series. Adam is that quiet brooding type of hero that makes you want to crack him. Holly is stubborn and that gets her in some trouble. Fun story. The banter between the two of them is hilarious. It seems like Holly and Adam bring out the best and worst out of each other. Overall, Rescue My Heart is a sweet, fun, sassy read (or listen). Now I'm anxious to see what Jill will bring with Holly's brother, Griff, story. Now that should be a good one.

Forewarning: I won't be listening to Rumor Has It until the spring, because that comes out in November. We all know that *I* won't be walking in 30degree weather with the possibility of snow. I love Jill, but not that much. So, be on the lookout for my thoughts possible April or May.

Interview with Lily Dalton

I would like to welcome Lily Dalton, the author of Never Desire a Duke, to What I'm Reading.

Hello Lily. How are you today?
I’m doing great! I hope you are as well!

I’m so glad you are able to be with us today.  So, how does it feel to have your debut novel Never Desire a Duke to be out in the wild?
It’s exciting! And yes, a little nerve-wracking. As an author, I feel a very strong commitment to my readers, and want them to feel happy and engaged, and yes—thrilled by reading my book! It’s very satisfying to hear someone say they’ve connected with the characters or story, or even better, lost sleep because they couldn’t stop reading.

For those who haven’t a gotten a chance to read Never Desire a Duke can you share what it’s about?
Never Desire a Duke opens with the across-a-crowded-ballroom reunion of a married couple who has been estranged for quite some time. The pain of tragedy has driven them apart to a place where there seems there is just no hope for reconciliation. An unexpected snowstorm forces them to confront not only their past, but the consuming attraction between them that has never died. But they are both smart characters, and know passion isn’t enough to guarantee a promise of forever…

There were several themes I wanted to explore with this story. One: As romance readers, we all love the idea of winning the heart of a bad boy, of a rogue. But what happens once we’ve won them? I’d think there might be some complications, and that maybe sometimes the past doesn’t go quietly away. Another theme was the whole idea of marital love. Sophia and Vane, when they first married, were wildly in love with one another. But there are stressors in all marriages. We see it today, all the time. Once the heady first days of “the honeymoon” are over, love either evolves and strengthens or it falls apart. I wanted to explore those complexities a bit, and poor Vane and Sophia were the ones who had to suffer for it! J

Would characters Lady Sophia and Lord Claxton be willing describe each other for my readers?
Sure! I’ve asked them to describe how they perceive each other at the very beginning of NEVER DESIRE A DUKE.

Claxton describing Sophia: Sophia as a young, new bride enchanted me. But Sophia as a woman, has become my heart’s obsession. She is beautiful and smart and strong, not to mention passionate. For the first time in my life, “forever” doesn’t seem long enough.

Sophia describing Claxton: Claxton is dark and brooding and mysterious and everything my young heart once desired. Now that my heart has been broken, he is my fantasy and my nightmare all at once. Though I have no desire to see him…he never leaves my thoughts. Sometimes I catch a glimmer of the hero I need him to be, but I don’t know if it’s real or something my hopeful heart wants to see.

Now that Never Desire a Duke has been released have you been working on anything new and if so can you share or is it still a secret?
Ahhh! NEVER ENTICE AN EARL is written, and I hope readers will love the story of the middle Bevington sister, and a new earl who has come to London with vengeance in his heart. DUKE took place on a secluded country estate in winter, but EARL is all springtime and London ballrooms (Oh, and one dangerous night in a sordid bawdy-house as well!)

I have asked every author that has been interview on my blog: If you had to write your own autobiography what would your title be and why?
Because I love language! It’s so much fun to manipulate and play with, to create different outcomes.

Thank you for stopping by today. Is there anything else you would like to say before you leave today?
I just want to say thank you so much for having me! I sincerely hope everyone loves Never Desire a Duke as much as I loved writing it, and finding out how these characters find their happily-ever-after. I love to hear from readers, so don’t hesitate to zap me an e-mail through my website,, to say hello.

Book Blurb:
Lady Sophia has long been estranged from her husband, Vane Barwick, the Duke of Claxton, whose rumored list of amorous conquests includes almost every beautiful woman of the ton. Yet a single touch is all it takes to reawaken her furious passion for him. But how can she trust the man who crushed her dreams and took away the one thing she wanted most?

Claxton has never forgiven himself for the youthful mistake that ruined his marriage to Sophia. Now, after nearly a year abroad, the reformed rogue vows to win back the only woman he's ever truly loved. He'll do whatever it takes to prove he can be the honorable husband she deserves-and the passionate lover she desires.

Bio: Lily Dalton grew up as an Army brat, moving from place to place. Her first stop after relocating was always the local library, where she could hang out with familiar friends: Books! She now lives in Houston, Texas, with her family. When she isn't at work on her next manuscript, she spends her time trying out new recipes, cheering on her favorite Texas football teams and collecting old dishes, vintage linens and other fine "junque" from thrift stores and flea markets.

Title: Only For You
Author: Marquita Valentine
Release Date: September 16, 2013
Age Group: New Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Blurb:

Loose ends left loose for too long tend to strangle. Cole and Violet knew it wouldn’t be easy. They knew their relationship would take work. But when the press finds out about Violet Lynn’s newest boyfriend, they start digging. And when his past come to light, exposing all of his family’s secrets, their relationship begins to fray.

Country Music’s Golden Boy, Jaxon Hunter, has it all, except the girl that got away. What she saw, she really didn’t. What she thought happened, he allowed her to believe for reasons so insane that no one would ever have believed him if he had confessed. But now that everything’s out in the open, he’s going to do his damndest to convince her that he’s the only one for her.

Now Violet must choose between Jaxon— her first love and the guy she thought had cheated on her—and Cole—the guy who helped her heal and love again.

Or will one of them make the decision for her?

My Thoughts:

Seriously, if you don't know by now how much I love this woman's writing, you really don't know me. Ever since she first published her first book, I have loved her writing style. With that said, it's no wonder why I love Only For You. I'm not kidding you, I really think this story is amazing. Before grab yourself a copy of Only For You, you will need to read Live For You. Otherwise you will be like,"Huh".

So, a really quick recap of Live For You: Violet needs to get away from the public scene so she goes stays with her grandmother in North Carolina. She meets Cole Morgan and basically falls in love with him.

Now in Only For You, Violet and Cole need to figure out how to work their relationship around her celebrity status. Granted relationships are not always easy to begin with, but sometimes adding something a little more can cause complications. Of course that wouldn't be the only problem, Jaxon wants her back and is basically willing to do whatever he can to win her. Too bad for him, Violet's isn't willing to give him a chance.

As I was reading Only For You, it was like an emotional punch to the gut as I was watched Cole and Violet's relationship hit some road blocks. It doesn't help that there were some people trying to break these two up. Yes, this is an emotional read, but worth the time. You see two lovers conquering some major hurtles.

Overall, an amazing story. Yes, be prepare for some tissues. Honestly, I wasn't expecting water works, but I got to a point where they just came. Marquita did a fantastic job with the unknown. I knew there was a happy ending waiting for me, but getting there was rough. So, if you have been looking for emotional new adult reads, you might want to give Marquita's Boys of the South a try. You will need to read the first book, before jumping into Only For You
