I never knew how much I would have loved Ryker's book until I started it. Ryder's story has a lot going on with it. When we first met Ryker, he wasn't in a good place. He had just got transfer and he's getting up there in age when it comes to hockey players. However, by the start of his story he's starting to put the pieces to his life back together. We see him as a great father and astounding goalie. We also know that he's loyal to those he respects, and he respects Gray Brannon quite a bit. She's the one to get him out his situation in Boston, so he's loyal to her. Not only that he has the hots for her.
I love that Sawyer writes strong female characters, but that they aren't overly strong that they cross into bitch territory. They are strong and capable at accomplishing things, but not afraid to ask for help. In Ryker, Gray is given an incredible opportunity to become a GM of Cold Fury, not only that but one of the first female. Ground breaking in the world of hockey. Being a male dominated sport she's going to be under a microscope for every decision she makes for the time. Yeah, a lot of pressure. Gray is an awesome character.
Even though Ryker and Gray's relationship has to kept on the down, they are one hot couple. However, we couldn't just have the secret relationship be the only issue, we have to toss in the ex-wife factor. Boy Hensley isn't a likable character, and she tries to manipulate the situation. Fortunately, Gray handles her like a pro and I love Gray even more.
How can you go wrong with a hockey player, and woman who knows how to play with the big boys. Let's add a little drama with the team. I think this happens to be my favorite story in the Cold Fury books. Ryker is just so damn lovable.
