Today I have with me the wonderful and talented Robyn DeHart. I hope that you will give her a warm welcome as she returns to What I'm Reading.
Thanks for having me.
How are you today?
I’m doing so great. I’m really enjoying my blog tour.
I’m so glad you can join us again. I see that you have a new book out. Can your characters share what the story is about?
My name is Mia Danvers and I live in London, in a cottage at the edge of the Duke of Carrington’s property. I’ve lived here since I was sixteen and led a relatively uneventful life up until now. I witnessed a horrible murder the other night, it was dreadful, violent and terrifying and I went to the duke for assistance, since the crime happened on his property. I’m not certain he believes me though. He doesn’t seem to think I’m a credible witness because I’m blind. But I don’t have to see to know that the poor woman was tortured and I will not stand by and let a murdered get away with it. Especially since I suspect the killer is none other than Jack the Ripper.
What makes Mia and Alex special?
This is always such a difficult question to answer. My characters are always special to me, even the baddies. It’s difficult to pin-point just why they’re special. Both of these characters were challenging to write, it was hard to get to the core of their characters so I lived with them a long time making sure I got everything just right. And I know I still haven’t answered your question. I think they’re special because they save each other. They are exactly what each other needs in the precise moment they need it and though it takes a while for them to figure all that out, they are truly soul-mates in every sense of the word.
What is one thing that makes Mia unique from all your other heroines?
Well, the most obvious answer is, she’s blind. I’ve never written a character with any kind of disability so this was new for me. She was quite challenging to write, but readers seem to really love her so I think I got something right.
What is the one thing that makes Alex unique from all your other heroes?
Most of my heroes are the pursuer in the relationship. It’s one of the things I look for when I’m a reader, I love heroes that go after the heroine with everything they’ve got. Alex is reluctant. He wants Mia, more than he’s ever wanted another woman, but he’s trapped by his sense of duty.
How would Alex describe Mia? And how would Mia describe Alex?
He would definitely say she’s beautiful, charming and irresistible. She is smart and tenacious and the strongest woman he’s ever known. She would say that Alex is stubborn and protective and everything she’s ever wanted in a man.
How many books do you plan to write for your Dangerous Liaisons?
Book 2, The Temptations of Anna Jacobs is scheduled to come out in November – you can see the beautiful cover on my website. There is a 3rd book, I planned the series as a trilogy, but the last book hasn’t been purchased yet, so we’ll see.
The last time you were here I asked you what you would name your autobiography if you ever wrote it, my question is would keep your current title you shared with me, Swimming Through Molasses, or would you change it?
LOL! Nope, that pretty much still summarizes my life.
Thank you for stopping by Robyn and is there anything else say or share before you leave today?
Thanks again for having me. I want to ask readers what summer movie they’re looking forward to most?

A lone witness finds her protector...
Since losing her sight in a childhood accident, Mia Danvers has resided in a small cottage on the vast Carrington estate. Thought to be dead, Mia lives a life of virtual seclusion—until one night, while walking home, she happens upon a horrendous crime.
Alex Foster, Eighth Duke of Carrington, lives according to society’s expectations for him. He’s never met the woman who lives in the cottage at the edge of his property. But when she arrives at his door in the pouring rain terrified and claiming she has witnessed a murder, she seizes his attention.
Mia is determined to help the authorities track down the culprit, even though the only person willing to accept her aid is the handsome, arrogant duke. Working closely together proves difficult as Mia’s beauty and independence tempts Alex to ignore convention and follow his desire. But what neither of them know is that this murderer has struck before in Whitechapel, taunting the British press only to vanish—a ruthless killer who knows that Mia is the only living witness to his crime…

Good morning again, Robyn! Well, I wish there were a great new romantic comedy movie coming out this Summer, but I haven't seen one advertised that I'd like. So I think I'll go with The Lone Ranger and the new Superman for light Summer adventure! And I like your description for your life (Swimming Through Molasses)as it has seemed that way to me, too, at times. A divorce years ago started the big swim...and then step-parenting (not enough books about that!)...and then living through our grown children's problems right along with them. It seems we'll never get through all that molasses! :-) jdh2690@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new release. I would like to see the new Star trek movie. It came out a few months ago, but I still haven't seen it.

"The Secrets of Mia Danvers" sounds great. I love my romances mixed well with mystery and suspense.
ReplyDeleteI'm terribly afraid I'm going to miss out on seeing "Man of Steel" in the theater. I've had conflicts every weekend. I also want to see "Pacific Rim" too.
Hi Mia!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it's been 10 years since I read Courting Claudia and I've your books ever since.
One of the things I love about your stories is you always make me identify with your characters.
I love the excerpts I've read about The Secrets of Mia Danvers and have already fallen in love with Mia. She really is a role model for others with disabilities and had growing to be independent and with a strength to face the world and with determination to seek justice for those who no longer can.
I wonder if those of us who haven't faced living with a disability like she does would have the courage that she shows early in your story!
I can't wait to find out how long it will take to realize what a strong woman she is!
Enjoyed the interview specially learning more about the characters.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't seen Man of Steel.
