New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett goes for a hat trick with the latest romance in a sexy series about cool-as-ice hockey players and the women heating up their lives.
Warning:
The following contains spoilers from a cliffhanger in Garrett.
Rising star Zack Grantham has been stuck in
a downward spiral of grief that has put his career on hold. Back on the road
with the Carolina Cold Fury, still crippled by emotional baggage, and now a
single dad, he’s in need of some serious help with his son. But while the nerdy
new nanny wins his son’s heart, Zack isn’t sure he’s ready for a woman’s
touch—even after getting a glimpse of the killer curves she’s hiding under
those baggy clothes.
Kate Francis usually keeps men like Zack at
a distance. Though his athlete’s body is honed to perfection, he refuses to
move on with his life—and besides, he’s her boss. Still, the sparks between
them are undeniable, tempting Kate to turn their professional relationship into
a personal one. But before she makes a power play for Zack’s wounded heart,
Kate will have to open him up again and show him that love is worth the fight.
My Thoughts:
Where do I begin. Seriously, there is just so much to this story I just don't know where to beginning. I guess I should start with Gina, since she's no longer among the living in the literary world. I know it's not very kind to speak about the dead, even if they are a fictional character, but I need to get this off my chest. Before I started reading Zack I went and looked at other reviews. One caught my eye, because of what it said. It wasn't what I was expecting, but it was how she felt about Zack. It didn't effect what I thought of the story, but more like taking a more in depth look at Zack and what he was going through. So, when I read that Zack loved Gina, but not enough to marry her it made me really ponder about their relationship. This is what I came up with: Gina loved Zack whole heartily and basically would do anything for him. She would even sacrifice her true happiness to keep things the same with Zack. She wanted to marry him, but he just didn't feel he could, basically it was an easy relationship. Yes, they had their ups and downs, but no one was willing to make a change. Who knows it could have been out of fear. Okay that is my peace about Gina, now the rest of my thoughts.
Okay, Zack is an ass in the story, but he's also grieving the lost of Gina. Some of his actions are not the most stellar things he has done, but everyone handles grief differently. Yeah, going to strip club to try to feel again is probably not the best way to handle things, then again at least he wasn't hooked on drugs. See a positive. He's trying to cope with the cards he was dealt with. So, when he gets adorkable nanny that's probably a little too bubbly for his taste he doesn't know how to handle her.
Kate is seriously an adorable dork (adorkable) who is patient with Zack and loves Ben to pieces. However, she does start to wear Zack down with her upbeat cheery disposition. Actually her character made me choke a bit, because of what happen to her when she was younger. This causes her to hide her body, but project her sunny personality to compensate what she's hiding under her baggy clothes. Some may have a hard time believe that could be possible, I could totally see that. I actually could relate to Kate. Some people may view Kate as a doormat to Zack, but I see her trying to help him without being too intrusive.
I actually, loved Zack (the story), because it dealt a lot with overcoming grief and moving on without the guilt. Zack had a ton of guilt when starting the story, but it slowly disappear as he let Kate into his life. Yes, there are some hot steamy moments and some cute ones too. Even though I knew Zack was going to break Kate's heart, I was still caught off guard with my tears. So, if you are looking for that story that has the hero overcoming his grief, pain, and guilt to find new life you might like Zack. I do have a soft spot for adorkable heroine's too.

ReplyDeleteGreat thoughts on this one. I do plan on reading it soon, and I have been in the mood for a emotional one lately, but its good to know that Zack isn't the nicest hero.
