Nevertheless as the long night wears on, attraction sizzles and they give in to unexpected passion, sure they’ll never see each other again…
Deception and desire…
A chance encounter in London society stirs heated memories of their sensual night together. They begin a heady dance of suspicion and desire. Though sympathetic to the struggling Colonists, Emily cannot trust a traitorous spy who may expose her dangerous intrigues. And Ryan risks his very life by trusting a woman privy to his true loyalties. But they are unable to deny their need for one another, even as Emily’s secrets are about to be exposed, and the noose around Ryan’s neck grows tighter. Betrayal and love…

Excerpt #3 from Sweet Treason:
Emily accepted the pewter cup of whiskey with a smile and did not wince as the first sip burned its way down to her empty stomach.
“For someone who does not ‘indulge,’ I am envious of the way you swill fermented barley,” Ryan said.
“I was rather prudish that night, was I not?”
She nearly choked on her laugh and went to glance out the only window. It was well past midnight, and tonight Emily felt reckless. She didn’t want to be safe. She was tired of making cautious choices, of hiding her feelings. Or was that the whiskey?
When she turned back, Ryan was still standing by the fireplace watching her. He gave her that long slow smile that invaded her blood and spread warmth through her.
He came to her and tilted her chin up to him. “I cannot stop wanting you, Emily Nevins. God knows I’ve tried.”
She closed her eyes, losing herself in the velvet darkness of his deep voice. She had not stopped wanting him since that first inconceivable kiss in her library. If she had known then how tempting his kisses were, she’d never have allowed the first one. And she knew she should never have come to his room. Oh, but she was so tired of heeding good sense. Tonight she simply wanted what she wanted, and she did not care to think beyond that.
Even his mouth was seductive...the touch of his tongue so intimate that her knees weakened. His arm went around her to press her closer, and she tangled her fingers through his thick dark hair. When he lifted his lips, she tilted her head back to give him access to her throat. One day, Emmy, I will take you someplace where there will be no interruptions. Well, there were no interruptions here...
Ryan accepted her invitation with a low growl, nibbling a path across her cheek to her ear, where he whispered, “Bloody hell, Emmy. Another kiss like that and you’ll be fortunate to be home by dawn.”
Ah, but it would be worth it. She wanted more of the feelings Ryan evoked. More of the heat and desire, and to know what lay at the end of it. Once. Just this once, perhaps for the only time, she wanted to know what she’d given up to keep Lucy safe. She’d been waiting for it, fighting it, from the moment she had turned in her library and seen his face, but she did not want to live a lifetime of regret when he was gone. Would that be worth it?
He gripped her shoulders and held her away. “Did you hear me, Emmy? I will not let you go if this goes any further.”
What could she say? Denials whirled through her head but all that passed her lips was, “Please, Ryan...please...”
