In the latest Disgraced Lords novel from USA
Today bestselling author Bronwen Evans, a vivacious thrill seeker clashes with
her dutiful defender—causing irresistible sparks to fly.
Independent
and high-spirited, Lady Portia Flagstaff has never been afraid to take a risk,
especially if it involves excitement and danger. But this time, being kidnapped
and sold into an Arab harem is the outcome of one risk too many. Now, in order
to regain her freedom, she has to rely on the deliciously packaged Grayson
Devlin, Viscount Blackwood, a man who despises her reckless ways—and stirs in
her a thirst for passion.
After
losing his mother and two siblings in a carriage accident years ago, Grayson
Devlin promised Portia’s dying brother that he’d always watch over his wayward
sister. But having to travel to Egypt to rescue the foolhardy girl has made his
blood boil. Grayson already has his hands full trying to clear his best friend
and fellow Libertine Scholar of a crime he didn’t commit. Worse still, his
dashing rescue has unleashed an unforeseen and undesired consequence: marriage.
Now it’s more than Portia he has to protect . . . it’s his battered heart.
My Thoughts:
I'm going to suggest reading the previous books in The Disgraced Lords, because there is plot that ties all the books together. I'm guessing that each book adds a little bit about who is trying to each member of Libertine Scholars. However, this can be read as a standalone in a way, because the story focuses on Grayson and Portia. Let's focus on Grayson and Portia's journey to finding true love.
I love Portia and her desire for knowledge even when it skates around snubbing her nose in society. I don't believe she does intentionally, but more she wants to do things that will make her happy. Yes, she would love get marry, but she's not going to be anyones trophy wife and broodmare especially Grayson. Even though she loves Grayson she's not going to sacrifice her hopes and dreams on someone who isn't going to return her feelings. Things get a little complicated when she's kidnapped and Grayson's comes to rescue her. I love how she sticks to her guns about saying "I will not marry to save my reputation." That takes balls. In essences Portia is a strong independent woman who doesn't need a man to save her reputation.
Now Grayson. Poor guy, he almost loses a great thing, because of his antiquated ideas. Before his father had passed away, he offered a piece of advice to Grayson which basically was "find a woman that is meek, quiet, and looks good on your arm, and if you have your peccadillo with your mistress." Yeah, nice. However, when he was living in Portia's home he saw a different type of relation that conflicted with what his father said. He thought he wanted to the first option, because it would make his life easier and he could keep his heart sheltered from the hurt that could come from love. Poor fool. Of course, Portia is definitely not the woman for him.
Anyway, Portia being the highly intelligent woman that she was gave him a taste of what he asked for, and I love what she presented to him. He starts to realize that he doesn't want that, but his fear is more powerful than the belief in love. His fear almost sacrifices something special between Portia.
A Touch of Passion is a beautiful story about a young woman willing to defiled society notions on whats more important to find love and to teach the one she loves the most that life without love is not worth it. I absolutely love the quotes in the story, because they focus on sharing love is important. So, if you want a story that shows the importance of love and willing to make sacrifice to find it, A Touch of Passion is the story for you.
