Blog Tour + Review: Her Summer with the Marine by Susan Meier

Her Summer with the Marine by Susan Meier

About the book:

Their competition has never been so irresistible

The last person Ellie McDermott wanted to run into after returning to her hometown is Finn Donovan, her high school nemesis and the guy she crossed the line from enemies to lovers with one night years ago. Now ex-military, tattooed, and still sexy as hell, Finn is a complication Ellie doesn’t need—she needs to concentrate on saving her family business.

Finn’s entire life, Ellie was there, going head-to-head with him in every class, bee, and test. So it’s no surprise she’d show up just as he was about to take over her father’s struggling business. It is a surprise, though, that his attraction to her is even more explosive than it had been. Acting on their attraction is one thing, but Finn has to turn a profit to save his own family, and nothing—not even love—will get in his way.

My Thoughts:

When I started Her Summer with the Marine, I wasn't sure if I would like the story. So, I was a little worry to say the least. When I started getting more into Ellie and Finn story, I slowly started to enjoy. Basically, they competed against each other all their lives. Then one night Ellie thought they might have something special. Of course, Finn had to crush her little dream, so she has been carrying a little grudge since high school. Now all grown up they are competing again to see who has the better funeral home. It's like may the best man win kind of situation.

Throughout the story you have Finn and Ellie trying to one up one another in the funeral home business. They both know that they can't both stay in the business. Ellie never wanted to be in the business, but she's doing it out of loyalty to her father who is ill. Finn wants to stay in busy for a couple reasons: 1) Needs to work. 2) Keep his mother safe. At the same time, they are trying to fight the attraction to one another.

Not your typical Bliss book, Her Summer with the Marine has a little more steam. Not like oh my goodness I need a fan in here, but enough to make you go "oh". Yet it does have the sweetness you find in a Bliss book and the happy sappy ending. Yes, I did cry in the story, because Ellie's life. Honestly, I knew it was coming, but I just wasn't sure when. Overall, a sweet story about to frienemies to lovers. So, if you are looking for a Bliss book that has a little more oomph, you might consider reading Her Summer with the Marine
