As an
elite Alliance agent—the joint undercover operation of MI6, the British Secret
Intelligence Service, and the CIA—Ford Decker lives for the adrenaline. But
when he befriends sexy property manager Shay Alexander in hopes of finding her
cousin, a known national security threat, Ford crosses the line, getting to
know her better . . . in bed.
After
being burned by her last relationship, Shay wants to take things slow. Yet she
can't keep her hands off the drop-dead gorgeous hottie who's moved into her
apartment building. So when Ford's identity as an undercover agent is exposed,
his betrayal cuts deep. Shay never wants to see him again, but Ford can't let
her go, not when her life is still in danger. He will sacrifice everything to
protect her, then be prepared to walk away from the only woman he's ever loved,
even if it breaks him.
I received the chance to read Playing Dirty which is the first book in the Bad Boys Undercover series. First off, there is a lot of info that needs to be taken in when starting this series. Yes, there was Running Hot, which was the novel that kicked off the series, but it just told how Alliance was formed. Now we are getting to see Alliance in action.
The first half of the story we are getting to know the guys in Alliance and seeing Ford and Shay's relationship. I guess you would call what they were doing a relationship, even though it was mainly a lot of sex. Ford went into the relationship knowing he needed to get info about Shay's cousin. Shay kind of went into it looking for fun after a bad relationship. All we know about Shay's past relationship was the guy lied her. We could probably guess about what the lie was, because it was hinted around. So, she has trust issues, completely understandable. Of course, Ford has to lie to her, but it's eating away at him. Moving on.
I actually liked the last half better because we got to see more of the drama and action. Prior to that there was a lot of reconnaissance, and sometimes that can be a little dull. It starts to pick up about half way, and we get to see more of suspense. Actually, the last few chapters had me holding my breath.
Overall, not bad. Plus, Bad Boys Undercover series has a good start. Yes, Playing Dirty has little slow, but did picked up. Ford is a dirty talking bad boy that has an interesting taste in shirts. Shay is a bit little leery, but not enough to keep Ford out her bed. So, if you are looking for a read that has action in and out of the bedroom, you might give Playing Dirty a try.
