Audiobook: Dreaming a Little Dream by Susan Elizabeth Phillips (Review)

Road trips are great way to listen to books, but I would recommend listening to Dream a Little Dream on a road trip. Not that it was bad. No, it was a great story, but boy did it bring on the ugly cry. I mean the one where you will use anything that is soft to stop the tears. Fortunately, I happen to have a box of tissue in my car and I manage to keep the tears at bay, not very well.

At the beginning of Dream a Little Dream we meet Rachel Stone aka Widow Snopes. Now her dead husband did shady things, and she has to live with the consequences of his actions. Everyone believes she's this awful person, so she has to prove to everyone she's not the person they saw on TV. However, that is hard when no one is willing to give her a chance.

Anyway, the good people of Salvation, North Carolina are horrible people. At times I would be like scream you are hypocrites, because they talk about being followers of Christ and then they treated her like dirt. Fortunately there were a couple people that saw she wasn't the devil incarnated, like Gabe and Kristy.

Gabe has some serious issues. He has the hots for Rachel, but there is the issue of her child. It stems that he can never has his family again, so he doesn't want another family. This is a struggle for Rachel, because she's falling for Gabe; however, her priority is her son. Through most of the book, Gabe is thought to be a block of ice that slowly melts. I mean what Rachel goes through, she doesn't give up on life.

I do like the secondary love story between Ethan and Kristy. Kristy is so in love with Ethan, but all he can see is the big busty women. Bad preacher. LOL. So, when Kristy changes her appearance he lose it his s***, and he can't handle it. He has to face facts that he needs Kristy in life and she's absolutely perfect for him.

Wouldn't recommend this book for a long car ride cause the tears were streaming down the face. However, Susan Elizabeth Phillips does an amazing job with making me have the feelies for this story. Adore Rachel and her inner strength to conquer the past. She's truly a good person, even when no one believes her to be one. I also love how she exacts revenge on Cal and Ethan in the end. That was awesome. I like how Gabe comes to realize that he can love again after tragedy. Overall, a pretty darn good story. If you are in a need of a good cry, Dream a Little Dream is a go to read.

Love stories are universal. Love stories are powerful.  And so are the women who write them.

Love Between the Covers is the fascinating story of the vast, funny, and savvy female community that has built a powerhouse industry sharing love stories.  Romance fiction is sold in 34 languages on six continents, and the genre grosses more than a billion dollars a year -- outselling mystery, sci-fi, and fantasy combined.  Yet the millions of voracious women (and sometimes men) who read, write, and love romance novels have remained oddly invisible. Until now.

For three years, we follow the lives of five very diverse published romance authors and one unpublished newbie as they build their businesses, find and lose loved ones, cope with a tsunami of change in publishing, and earn a living doing what they love—while empowering others to do the same. Romance authors have built a fandom unlike all others, a global sisterhood where authors know their readers personally and help them become writers themselves. During the three years we’ve been shooting Love Between the Covers, we have witnessed the biggest power shift that has taken place in the publishing industry over the last 200 years. And it’s the romance authors who are on the front lines, pioneering new ways to survive and build communities in this rapidly changing environment.

Drive You Wild by Jennifer Bernard (Review)

Finished Drive You Wild by Jennifer Bernard. If you have been following the series you would know remember Trever Stark, as being an ass. He's not the friendliest guy, but the ladies love him. However, there is a good reason why he's the ice man, and they actually don't stem from baseball even though he's keeps a cool head on the game. Yes, our good boy Trevor has secret past that he would like to keep out of the spotlight, and it explains a lot about his antics. Of course, he starts to melt when he encounters Paige Taylor. Now Paige knows how to wiggle into someone skin, because she's like a marshmallow, all soft and mushy. Being a marshmallow isn't a bad thing, because the world needs marshmallow people.

These two were fun together. I mean they try to avoid each for a few chapters of the book. I mean Paige is coming off a divorce and isn't too found of athletes, not only that her father has warn her away from Stark. Once Trevor realizes Paige is Crush's daughter, he tries to avoid her. However, that isn't the easiest thing to keep a moth from a flame. Saying that these to are hot for one another is an understatement.

Trevor is definitely an onion. However, I did like how Sadie described him as an iceberg, but you don't see what is underneath iceberg. He's actually a pretty amazing guy. Paige, what's not to love. As I said she's like a marshmallow. She has this ability to let people open up and unburden their burdens. I have to say, it makes Trevor a little jealous at times, even though Paige only has eyes for Trevor. Liked these two together. They seem to bring out the best out each other.

Overall, I liked Drive You Wild, because Paige and Trevor. Trevor makes this story, because you get to know him more than the ice man. The ending is a quick clean up of all the drama that happen in the story. I hope that Stark's sister gets with Jim Leiberman. Anyway, hope there is more A Love Between the Bases books. If you haven't read the previous books, you don't need to worry, but you will see how he was before Paige.

Tasty Book Tours Q&A + Excerpt + Giveaway: Drive You Wild by Jennifer Bernard

1.      Tell us about yourself.

I live in Homer, Alaska, which I’m proud to say is the Halibut Fishing Capital of the World. Yay! Right now we have nearly 24 hour daylight so I’m a little wired. (Summer solstice is coming up soon.) I write contemporary romance that has been described as “steamy and irresistible” with “quick wit” and “sizzling love scenes.” My first two series were about firemen and baseball players. I live with my husband and two stepdaughters on the edge of pristine wilderness, fortunately just within reach of cell service and Internet.

2.      What three things about you might surprise your readers?

Since I got into social media, I’m not sure I have any secrets left! It might surprise readers that I backpacked around Europe when I was 14, along with my older cousin who was only 19. (Crazy, right?) Number 2: I can split wood like nobody’s business. (A handy skill in Alaska.) Number 3: I was a Hula Hoop champion in third grade and got my picture in the paper!

3.      Is there a genre(s) that you think “I might like to write one of those.”?

I’m obsessed with dystopian YA fiction. My step-daughter and I actually came up with an idea the other day and began plotting it out in the car. She gets first dibs, since she actually is a young adult (she’s 12.) But she asked if she could get me to write a few sentences now and then when she gets stuck. I can’t wait to get my hands on the story!

4.      Tell us about DRIVE YOU WILD.

DRIVE YOU WILD is a baseball romance about bad boy slugger Trevor Stark, who has a reputation as a troublemaker. He falls hard for the good-girl daughter of the team owner. Paige Taylor is recovering from a humiliating divorce and is starting over as an intern at Catfish stadium. The last thing she wants to do is get involved with one of her father’s players, but Trevor Stark is too fascinating to resist. Falling for Trevor is even more dangerous than she realizes because he’s hiding something big and it’s about to turn his life upside down.

5.      Where did the idea for the storyline come from?

Trevor has been a character in the previous Love Between the Bases series, and I have to say he’s acted like a jerk. But he always intrigued me, and I knew there was a reason why he was playing the bad boy. I wanted to dig down and unearth those reasons and work the storyline around that. Crush Taylor, the owner, has also been an important character so I knew bringing in his estranged daughter would really shake things up.

6.      What do you think readers will like/love about Paige and Trevor?

I think readers will fall for Trevor once they see what’s driving his behavior. He is a fiercely protective good guy hiding behind an arrogant mask. Everything he does is for a very good reason, and once you understand the reason, you see what an amazing person he is. Paige is kind and compassionate and she really cares about people. She’s a loving person who has been wounded by her ex-husband, but hasn’t lost her faith in people. That’s what I love about her. She always has faith in people’s underlying goodness.

7.      What was your favorite scene from the book?
Can I pick two? One is the scene in which Trevor storms into Crush Taylor’s office without his uniform pants on. That’s when he finds out that the girl he met the night before is, in fact, the owner’s daughter. The second scene is a showdown between Trevor and Crush, who’s a former Hall of Fame pitcher. And I can’t say any more about that without spoiling it. But it brings together so many delicious threads that I just loved it.

8.      Who are some of your book boyfriends?  What draws you to them?

Mr. Darcy is my original book boyfriend. I will also include any member of the Bonner family in Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ books. I love Alex in Lisa Kleypas’ Dream Lake. The common thread between all these book boyfriends is that I love a “tortured” hero. Someone who has suffered a blow, who has matured from it and really had to dig deep to overcome it.

9.      If you had to pick a favorite cocktail of choice, what would it be?  (It can be non-alcoholic too)

I’m going with the Mojito because it has so many of my favorite flavors. Mint, lime, sugar. Leave out the alcohol and it’s still delicious. Drinking a Mojito is the next best thing to relaxing on a beachside lounge chair. Mojito in a lounge chair? Pure bliss.

10.  What’s next for you?
I have a new series starting in September based around a rough-and-rowdy hotshot wildfire crew that moves into a quiet tourist town called Jupiter Point in coastal California. The hero of the first book left Jupiter Point in disgrace, but now he’s back to set up the crew and prove himself. But first he’ll have to mend fences with the girl he left behind. I’m super-excited about this new series—it’s a combination of hot alpha firemen and hometown romance, with lots of fun chemistry and steamy scenes thrown in. Look for it in September of this year!

The Billionaire Bachelor by Jessica Lemmon

Do you guys know how much I love fake relationships (in a book)? I mean they are simply the best. So, it's easy to see why I fell in love with The Billionaire Bachelor. So, we have Resse Crane who is known as a manwhore at work, but he also works hard. Of course there is a reason for his manwhore tendency. However, the board sees that this might reflect badly on the company, so they are a bit leery to make him president of his father's company. What better way to make everyone believe he has change his way, but getting into a fake relationship with Merina Van Heusen who is the perfect antidote to solve his problem. Fortunately he has something she wants and is willing to do anything to get back. So beginnings the fun.

Merina is warm and caring, and I'm surprise more people don't question why she is in a relationship with Reese. Reese presents himself as a cold, calculating person, and he is for the most part. However, he starts to thaw as he gets to know Merina. You see that he starts to care for Merina, but he's still not willing to completely open up after all it's just a marriage of convenience with a deadline.

I love The Billionaire Bachelor, because you have ruthless Reese taken down by sweet down-to-earth girl like Merina. The Billionaire Bachelor was one of those books I couldn't put down. I tried to do other things, but it seem to call my name every time tried to put it down. So, if you love fake relationship with marriage of convenience, you have found your read in The Billionaire Bachelor.

Sweet Little Lies by Jill Shalvis (Review)

Jill Shalvis sure does know how to give sweet, sappy, and fun. In her new series, Heartbreaker Bay, we are introduce to a new group that are fun. Even though the story takes place in the big city, you still get the small town feel with the group tight-knit camaraderie. Yes, everyone knows what is going.

Anyway, we Pru who is trying to make amends for the wrongs of her parents. Totally selfless. Some might view her as a martyr, but I adored her. I could relate to her on a lot of levels. She's the type of person who will give and give till she doesn't have anything else to give, but would find a way to continue. Then you have Finn, who has worked hard trying to make sure that him and his brother survive. He doesn't seem like he knows how to have fun until Pru enters his life.

I did like Sweet Little Lies; it gave me the feelies as I was reading. I like how Pru was able to bring life back to Finn. Granted I wasn't a big fan of Pru waiting so long to tell Finn who she was and what she was doing, but I understand why she was hesitant. Who likes to tell someone a secret that shake the foundation they stand on? Anyway, a great start for a new series. Not only you get to know Finn and Pru, but you slowly get to know their tight-knit group. Yes, I'm curious on a couple of them and can't wait to see how this series plays out. If you are in the mood for sweet, sappy, and fun, you won't have to look to far, because it awaits you in Sweet Little Lies.
