Tasty Book Tours Book Blast + Q&A + Giveaway: Her Renegade Rancher by Jennifer Ryan

Q&A with Tasty Book Tours

Q: Where do you get most of your storyline's from?  News?  Imagination?  Built from prior titles?

I have a very active imagination. I get honked at for missing the red light turning green a lot. When I’m doing mundane things like taking a shower, washing dishes, or working in the garden, my mind just wanders and I start weaving stories in my head. I keep a notebook where I jot them down for later because I’m so busy writing the books.

When I’m writing, I love to set up characters for their own books. I like to introduce characters and leave readers wondering what will come of them. The Hunted series is tied to the Montana Men series in that way. From the Montana Men series, I’ve got two other series I’d like to spin off. One will be my upcoming Montana Heat series in 2017.

Q: Which title or couple has been the easiest to write and which gave you the most trouble?

At Wolf Ranch was the hardest book to work on. My amazing editor and I probably did about five rounds of edits before we had the plot just right. All the threads had to come together at the end and every time we changed something in the beginning, we had to work our way to the end again to be sure it all worked out. Such a labor of love because I really loved the relationship between Gabe and Ella and tackling a complicated, dysfunctional family.

Q: Which heroine do you feel most closely relates to your personality?

They all have a little bit of me in them.

I connect the most with Bell from Her Lucky Cowboy. I know what it’s like to feel like nothing you do will ever be good enough. That no matter how smart you are or how much you achieve in your life, you’re still not good enough for the people you think should love you no matter what…but they don’t. So you hide your disappointment and hurt and do it for yourself. Bell just wants to be loved and be a part of a loving family. She finds that with Dane and discovers that kindness is worth more than anything. I get that. It’s become very important in my life to be around people who are kind and do things that come from the heart.

Q: You're known for adding a little "suspense" to your romances.  Do you have a fun piece of research that you needed for one of your books?

I’m pretty sure I’m on the FBI and Homeland Security watch lists for the research I do online. My stalker research turned very dark, learning the psychology behind someone with that kind of deep, dark obsession. I find I’m drawn to that type of thing, the why behind the things people do. Whether it’s based on the way they were treated in the past or a psychological flaw in their moral compass, I want to know how they came to this place where hurting others seems the only way to get what they want - or they just like it.

For Stone Cold Cowboy, I did a lot of research on meth addicts and making meth. I was surprised to learn the life expectancy of a meth addict is only five years from the time they start. That’s sad and devastating for those hoping to help their loved ones in that terrible circumstance. I also learned how to make meth, so if the whole writing thing doesn’t work out…Just kidding. It’s a terrible epidemic and destroys lives, not just for those who become addicted to the drugs but their families and friends. As I tried to depict with Sadie and her brother Connor in Stone Cold Cowboy.

Q: What is your favorite part of writing romances?

The happy ending! I love writing the romance from first kiss to happy-ever-after and everything that happens in between. I put my characters through a lot to earn that happy ending and I want my readers to know that after all that, they’re going to be okay. They have a partner who supports them. They have love.

That’s all any of us wants.

Q: What are you currently working on?

A brand new series! Montana Heat. Fans of the Montana Men series met Caden and Beck “Trigger” Cooke, two sexy DEA agents, in Stone Cold Cowboy. They lead off the new series in 2017.

But first, don’t miss Colt’s big brother Ford, who will finally get a second chance at love when Jamie returns from the military to claim His Cowboy Heart

Why?

For one it's a stunning cover. I love how she's making her way up the stairs, at the same time with her head glancing to the side it looks like she's not quite sure. Even though the dress is an orange color it's pretty and works with the yellow of the background. What do you all think of my cover pick this week?

Audiobook Review: Match If You Can by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Let me say that Susan Elizabeth Phillips is my go to for a good laugh. Oh my goodness, Annabelle and Heath are fantastic. The banter between these two are stupendous.

So, we have The Python aka Heath Champion in search of a wife, but he doesn't have time to find the perfect polish wife he needs for his career so he hires Power Matches. However, one of his clients wife has a friend who is started her own match making business, so he's doing this as a favor. Isn't so gracious of him. In comes Annabelle Granger, a walking disasters. However, she manages to get results done. Even though she's an unlikely character for Heath to hang around he likes her, okay that's stretching a bit, but she grows on him. Plus, she does an amazing job playing interference on his dates if they aren't working out. At the same time, Annabelle has a powerful connection that Heath would love to make amends. So, the snake slithers his way into getting on Phoebe Calebow good side.

Anyway, Match Me If You Can will definitely tickle your funny bone. The banter, fantastic. The chemistry, hot. Annabelle and Heath are both out of each other leagues, but you know what they work. Annabelle is definitely not the polish, sophisticated woman Heath wants, but she's feisty and fun loving and she's going to knock his socks off. Heath he's pretty snaky in the book, but Annabelle makes him a better man. She's the only one to stand up to the guy. Plus, we get to Deeeeean. Dean Robillard is my favorite character and he strikes up an interesting friendship with Annabelle. I definitely would recommend Match Me If You Can if you need a pick me up, laugh out loud kind of read.

Since, this was an audiobook nobody can do a better job than Anna Fields. She does a super job with reading this book like she has in the previous books. I love when she does her kid voices, because they are amazing.

Yes, you might consider reading the books in order, but you will be fine if you don't. I have been hopping around this series this whole time and have done fine on the stories.

Claiming the Enemy by Lauren Hawkeye (Review)

I somehow manage to skip book 2 in this series. Darn. However, Claiming The Enemy, damn, it was good. Talk about heat and needing cold showers, this one was good. There were times where Ace and Piper were like the scene in Friday where they said "Damn" in that long exaggeration . Before we get to hot steamy scenes, these two didn't like each other. Actually Ace shelled himself off emotionally, so he's ruff and gruff, while Piper is sweet and kind. Ace kind of fits the song "There's Somethings There" from Beauty and the Beast except the unrefined. Anyway, getting sidetracked here.

Looking for something hot. You got. Looking to melt. You bet. Looking for a reason to take a cold shower. Oh yes, and more. Lauren had me after the first time Ace nibble Piper's ear. Plus, who doesn't love a good enemies to lovers kind of story, they sure make the hottest read.

Audiobook Review: First Star I See Tonight by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

I finally got around to listening to Susan Elizabeth Phillips First Star I See Tonight. The story was pretty good, and the narrator wasn't bad, but she wasn't Anna Fields. I think it would have been better if they had found a narrator who could have done a more southern drawl I would have been happy. After all it's Cooper Graham. Nicole Poole did a good job.

Now I have been hopping around through this series, you don't have to read the previous books in order to read this one. There are a few characters that popup from the previous books here and there. Don't worry.

We have Piper Dove who is a struggling PI. She's trying her best, but she wasn't cut out to be in that line of work, but it's her legacy. She was hired to follow Cooper Graham. She's quite harmless. Anyway, Piper isn't the type of girl would go after, but she's a challenge. I love how Susan makes these heroine, because they are normal woman, but extraordinaire personality. Piper is quite the character. She's sassy and funny, which knocks the wind out of Cooper Graham. You have Cooper Graham. There is no other way to describe him than using his full name.

Overall, First Star I See Tonight is like the predecessors in this series, fun to listen to. There were a couple things I wondered about the story like where he went to school. To a normal reader it wouldn't bother them, and I probably wouldn't have cared had I not moved to Oklahoma. In the story says one thing, but then mentions Norman which is OU territory. It's just me. Narration was all right, but a fun listen. It would be something I would go back and re-listen. Need something to pick you and laugh, First Star I See Tonight might be your answer.

Just Married by Jenna Bayley-Burke (Review)

Just Married seemed like something I would like to read. I normally don't go for friends-to-lovers kind of things, but this sounded to good to pass up. I mean you have marriage of convenience and Vegas, what could go wrong?

Anyway, Miranda Rose and Callum Kerr have been best friends with benefits. However, Callum drops that he's getting married to some woman right before his birthday, and Miranda freaks out. So, goes in thinking she needs to stop a wedding, but comes to find out she's a woman. Yes, they have a lot of issues to work out, especially when Miranda finds out she's pregnant with twins. By the way is highly unlikely even if Callum's father was a twin. Twins wouldn't come from the father's side anyway they are more likely to come from the mothers or it's a fluke. That is the gist of Just Married.

Now the story is a fairly fast read, and enjoyable. Yes, there are emotional ups and downs. Callum doesn't grasp that they need to change the dynamics of their relationship. He definitely has a hard time with this. I liked Miranda, because she starts to focus on what is better for the babies. Anyway, if you are marriage of convenience and Vegas fans you might enjoy Just Married. Granted it could have been a little longer, but for a quick read it was pretty good.

Shadow Falling by Rebecca Zanetti

I don't know how much to stress, but read the first book and novella. Don't be like me and start with Shadow Falling, you will be missing some key elements and have to play catch up. You all have been warned. With that said, I did finish Shadow Falling. For an apoplectic-end of the world situation Shadow Falling is a pretty good read. It had me wanting to go back to see how this all went down. If you jump in the middle of the story, and it grabs you to go back, it's a pretty good read.

Basically, we have world in chaos. Different groups trying to survive, while you have one crazy dude who has his own agenda. You have a group that wants to make the world habitable. I mean the Scorpius bacterium isn't going away, not they need to find a way to live with it and survive. Which they are making slight progress. You all also have a relationship developing between Vivienne Wellington and Raze Shadow. With the world being in such chaos is it a good idea for these two to get together. Anyway, the story continues to build while they try to take down President Atherton while figuring out to survive. So far there are only one group which are the Pure which do not have the bacterium. How long before that group doesn't get the bacterium? The importance to find a way to live Scorpius. The double D's are in Shadow Falling Danger and Drama. Overall, a pretty good read. This read like it could be post-apoplectic movie. So, if you are into that kind of thing, Shadow Falling is your read.

“Thrilling post-apocalyptic romance at its dark, sizzling best!”
—Lara Adrian

Before the Scorpius Syndrome tore through North America and nearly wiped out the population, Vivienne Wellington was the FBI’s best profiler. The bacteria got her anyway. But she survived. She recovered. And when she woke up from a drug-nightmare of captivity, her trust in her fellow man had gone from shaky at best to nonexistent. Her mysterious rescuer wants to convince her he’s the exception. But no matter how tempting he is, with his angel’s eyes and devil’s tongue, Vinnie knows she shouldn’t trust him.

If the FBI were still around they would rate Raze Shadow as one of the bad guys. His military training can’t wipe out his association with the Mercenaries, the most feared gang in a thousand miles. His loyalties are compromised. He won’t even tell Vinnie his real name. But there’s no FBI in the new America of fear and firepower, only instinct and risk. And the way his arms wrap around her tells its own story. Whatever else Raze is concealing, he can’t hide his desire . . .

For Kennedy though, nothing is more enticing than the tall, strapping slice of temptation who keeps coming back for more.

Luke Callahan is determined to make his hard cider business a success. With his beloved father's cider recipe and the opportunity of a lifetime in his grasp, he'll stop at nothing to get this deal done. There's just one catch: he needs Kennedy's apples. At first, he thinks it'll be as easy as pie to charm those apples right off her trees. But Kennedy isn't falling for his tender charms or his wicked ways. When the negotiations start heating up, so do the feelings they have for each other. And it takes just one kiss to seal the deal…

The Darkest Link by Scarlett Cole

We need to get out of the way the customary schpeale about me jumping into a series without starting the first book. We know I do this and notorious about it, moving on. Anyway, if you haven't read any of A Second Circle Tattoos books, don't worry you won't be too lost. The story focuses on Reid Kennedy and Julianne Carlisle (Lia), but there are some previous characters that integrate into the story. They do have ties to main character. Anyway, moving on.

We have all heard the saying that, "Blood is thicker than water," when talking about the family bonds. I think it should be "In most cases blood is thicker than water, but there are exceptions to the rule." The Darkest Link is one of those stories. Reid is basically run from a past, but misses his family. Lia can't get away from her family. Her father basically manipulates Lia to do what he says, but she has decided to cut ties. By the way isn't the easiest thing to do, because her mom is basically losing grasp on reality.

I wasn't sure if I was going to finished The Darkest Link, because it seemed a little slow at the beginning. However, Scarlett was able to drag me in with her characters. The next thing I knew I was waiting with baited breath to see what happen in the next character. Entranced by these characters lives, especially when Reid's past collided with his present, and possible future. However, that wasn't the only thing going on, Lia's father. Dude, he made my crazy family look like I don't know. Talk about lies and deceit that oozed from that man. Overall, The Darkest Link won me over. It started out slow, but turned into a page turner once I got started. Plus, the cover is yummy one.
