The Accidental Countess by Valerie Bowman (Review)

All right, I finally finished The Accidental Countess by Valerie Bowman. Let me tell you this story had my stomach in knots, and all because Lucy had the grand idea of Cassie pretending to be Penelope's imaginary friend Patience Bunbury. No good can come from pretending to be someone that your not and when the words "what's the worse can go wrong" are always bad news.

Anyway, Lady Cassandra Monroe has been in love with Captain Julian Swift for the longest time. However, he had an arrangement with Cassie's cousin Penelope. So, Cassie was a little bit envious of Penelope and secretly hoped that they wouldn't end up married. If that wasn't her only problem, she also has her mother trying to match her up with highest title she could get. Cassie doesn't want that, she wants to marry for love. You can see this is going to be a challenge. So, Lucy cooks up a scheme that gets Cassie and Julian to spend some time together and hopeful persuade him to change his mind.

Honestly, someone really needs to put a leash or muzzle Lucy, granted her intentions are good, but they never pan out quite right. Maybe her Duke can get a better hold of her in the next book, but I doubt it. So, we have this giant scandalous charade, which is majority of the book. Had everyone been open and honest it would save a lot trouble, then again we wouldn't have story.

Valerie has the ability to write quirky lovable characters. I did enjoy the story, even with the giant charade that had my stomach in knots. The story is well written that you can completely envision the mess happening before your eyes. Poor sweet Cassie and she almost misses her chance with Julian. Then you have Julian who has no clue what the heck is going on, so when everything that is reveal his pride is hurt. So, it causes a little concern if he's willing to forgive Cassie for her mistake. However, by the end you have that resolve you are looking for. I was relieved once everything was out in the open and they could start working towards fixing everything that happen during the charade. The Accidental Countess is a silly fun read, so if that is something you are looking for you might give it a try.
