I admit it, I have a weakness.  And my weakness is romantic comedies.  There have been so many Saturday afternoons I’ve lost by walking through the living room when one of my favorites is playing on TV.  Laundry and errands?  What laundry and errands?  I have to spend the next few hours curled up on the sofa, watching Dirty Dancing for the 473rd time.  It’s this same magnetic pull toward a love story that inspired me to read romance novels, and to write them.  So I thought I would share with you one of my favorite romantic comedies, and the romance novel it reminds me of. 

Pretty Woman and Any Duchess Will Do by Tessa Dare

 

                                               

We all know the plot to Pretty Woman, right?  Important corporate dude hires a girl off the street to be his date during his business trip.  They fall in love, he screws it up.  But then he shows up in the white limo and climbs up the fire escape…It’s epic.  In Tessa Dare’s Any Duchess Will Do, a Duke hires a serving girl for a week to prove a point to his mother.  She fills the role of future Duchess, and he falls for her in the process.  It’s perfect for those of you who want to be swept off your feet by a Duke…which would be most of you…and me. *grins*

Along Came A Rogue by Anna Harrington (Review)

 I finally finished Along Came A Rogue by Anna Harrington. I was aiming to finish before it released, but with the move and all it got push to the back burner. Which was sad, because it was good from the beginning to the end. I mean when you start off with the hero getting his cock suck right at the beginning you, it definitely grabs your attention. Yes, there are a few more steamier parts of the story, but that's not the story. Actually, Along Came A Rogue is more about the rogue doing his friend a favor.

Seriously, Nathaniel Grey was asked by his long time friend, Thomas Matteson, to go and fetch his sister. Thomas and his sister, Emily, haven't been talking for years, but when you are starring at your possible death you want to make amends. When Nathaniel gets to her she was getting read to flee, due some circumstance. She's a bit fearful of her life after the death of her husband. Emily suspected that her husband was murder, but didn't have proof. Anyway, she was fearful they might come after her when they found out the circumstance of her well-being. Oh yeah, her husband was the heir to a Marquess. Anyway, Emily is trying to stay her course, but Grey wasn't having any of it. Plus, have the dynamic of the two lusting after one another. I love rogues/rakes in books, because they have their own code of honor. You wouldn't think that of Grey who basically uses women, but when it comes to Emily he tries to protect her. Quite lovely. However, even a rogue can't resist her charms. Grey does warn her off, but when push comes to shove he can resist Emily. So, the journey back to London is definitely adventure for the two. I do love how Grey worries about Emily so much so that he was willing to give up his career for her. Of course, Emily freaks out about that and worries that he's doing it for the wrong reason. We get a chasm between the two. As stubborn these two are, they believe are doing what is right.

Anyway, Along Came A Rogue is definitely a great read. You have danger and adventure, and two people who are perfectly for one another. Yet, one is afraid to become a ball and chain to the other for fear of resentment later in life. However, the adventure that was originally planned might be the adventure the one needs. Poor Grey he had a hard time trying to convince Emily that she was the adventure he craved. Yep, Anna Harrington is an author worth checking out.

All They Ever Wanted by Tracy Solheim (Review)

So, reading All They Ever Wanted by Tracy Solheim took a little longer than I expected. Nothing is wrong with this story, and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Life wasn't working with me, so it took a little longer than expected. Okay, I haven't read Back to Before, but I totally want too. Yes, there are a few of the characters that would be found in the first book. It might help, because the story is moving forward. However, it's pretty easy to pick up the story from All They Ever Wanted, because the story focuses more on Miles McAlister and Lori Hunt. Lets get started.

Miles is politically driven and would do practically anything to make his political career the best. However, his family has a few skeletons that kind popped up and I'm guessing the first book. Best way to describe him he's politically driven. He projects himself as someone who is doing right. When he comes across Lori, he doesn't trust her.

Okay, Lori is hiding a big secret. Oh my gosh, I was dying to know what it is and how it could harm the McAlister. Boy it's a juicy secret, and we get tidbits here and there. It isn't until we draw closer to the end when we find out the whopper of a secret. It's scandalous and it made me feel bad for Lori. I hate when people judge to a person cause of their parent. People would have judge Lori, because of her family. I could understand why she kept her secret. I admire Lori for what she did, because she wasn't doing it out of selfishness, but out of love for someone.

A pretty amazing story. We have Lori and Miles pretty much at each others throats. Miles wondering what kind of secret Lori is hiding and Lori trying to keep her secret from leaking out and causing harm to the McAlister family. You have Miles who has no desire to love another again after his first love, but it has a way of seeking in when least expected it. There is so much in the story. I mean you have McAlister's family dynamics, Miles and Lori's attraction, Miles political aspiration and if he's willing to sell his soul for it. He comes close to selling his soul, good thing he has a good friend. Such a great story, and I can't wait for McAlister's. Patience was never my strong suit, I guess I will learn it. It was worth the time I spent, and I might have to reread again.

Audiobook: Zane by Kimberly Lewis (Review)

Few weeks back I listened to Zane by Kimberly Lewis. At first, I was a little confused, because the heroine's accent didn't match the other characters. I assumed she was from Texas too. Yeah, never assume. It's not until later in the story (extremely later) that we find out where she's from, and that's when everything became clear. That aha moment. I hate being late to the party on that account. It could have been, because the narration or the fact the author didn't share that information until later. Overall, the narrator didn't do a bad job, just might need a little work.

Now the characters:
Kellan/Andi: Lets start with the positives. She left an abusive relation. She tried to make a plan for her escape. Truth be told that is one the hardest things to do. She had no one to turn to.
My issues: She did fairly well on her escape, but she kept her cellphone. Rule #1 ditch the cellphone and buy a cheaper burner. I'm surprise the ex didn't call the police to report the car stolen. There were a couple other issues, but I'm not going to nitpick. Downward spiral there.

Zane: The cowboy who doesn't trust Andi or whoever she is. I liked him. He was looking out for his family when Andi drops on his doorstep.

McKade Family: Luke, Norah, and their mother. They basically welcome Andi without question.

Eventually, Andi settles into life in Texas and she starts to feel at home. It starts to slow down during the middle of the book, because everything seems to be perfect for Andi and Zane. I got to the point, okay were is this possessive ex, because abusers don't normally let things go. Waiting and waiting for something to happen. Eventually it does, but it's the last couple of chapters and it seem it went all too quickly. It wasn't bad, and I liked the ending because it picked up the pace. I also had a couple issues with the epilogue, because somethings weren't completely cleared up.

Overall, Zane wasn't a bad read (listen). There were somethings that could have improved. I'm curious about what will happen to Norah and Luke in their own stories.

Lady Eleanor Butler was on the verge of being forced into a convent by her family and her friend Sarah Ponsonby was being subjected to the unwanted attentions of her guardian when the two women decided to flee Ireland for England. Their scandalous attempt to run off together required more than one effort—their families caught them the first time and dragged them home—but eventually they succeeded. They settled in Wales, where the ladies meant to live together in bookish seclusion. However, visitors—sometimes as many as twenty a day and including people like the Duke of Wellington—flocked to their home, fascinated by the sensational story of two women refusing to accept the roles Society assigned them. They eventually became known as “the two most celebrated virgins in Europe.”

And then there was Lady Caroline Lamb. The daughter of an earl, she developed a grand passion for Lord Byron, with whom she had a months-long affair that shocked society with the lovers’ open displays of romantic obsession. When Byron broke off the affair, Lady Caroline’s family was so horrified by her histrionic reaction that they threatened to have her put in a straight jacket. But instead of falling completely apart, she wrote Glenarvon, a thinly veiled caricature of various members of Society, including Lady Caroline herself and Lord Byron. The book was immensely popular, and went into several editions.

Perhaps if Lady Caroline or the Ladies of Llangollen could have given the young ladies of their time advice, it would have been this: if you’re going to be a scandal, you might as well own it!

Captain Adam Montmorency is an adventurer, privateer and general ne’er-do-well—at least, he was. He’s come back to Maine with his memories of how he treated his wife missing. After guarding his emotions during endless days of British torture, he’d like to repair relations with Caroline and gain acceptance for the man he is now—reformed and ready for domestication.

Paul has loved Caroline for years but waited to declare himself out of deference to Adam’s memory. She’s promised him her hand, but he’s faced with the loss of his lady to Adam, so he does whatever it takes to win—even if it means betraying his best friend to the British.

While Caroline has mixed feelings about having Adam back in her life and bed, she won’t give up Paul. Before any of them can grasp a happy ending, they’ll have to survive a fight with the British and muddle through the aftermath of Paul’s deception.
