Audiobook: The Guest List by Lucy Foley

Just tackled another story. This time we found ourselves reading The Guest List by Lucy Foley. Of course this was one of the audiobooks I decided to pick at the library. I have to say it was an interesting listen. The chapters are broken down by people, so you get to see what is going on through different points a view of the same event. I have to say that was intriguing. The characters we focus on are the Bride, the Sister (the bridesmaid), the Bestman, the Wife of the best friend of the Bride, the Keeper of the island where this wedding is being held.

We start off at the event, and things start to happen, but stuff was already started but we go back 24 hours to the real start. So, we are going back and forth with the present and earlier. An intriguing read.

I'm glad I did an audiobook on this story, because it's quite a bit of character switching. I have to say it was nice to have about 5 or 6 narrators. Overall this was interesting listen. Would I have normally picked this book up, probably not. Will try another Lucy Foley book. Yes. She intrigued me enough to read another. Till next time.

Audiobook: Half Life by Jillian Cantor

It has been a while since I last posted. Honestly it's been a while since I last read or listened to a book. Truth be told I haven't been in the mood to read. I don't want to say I'm completely I'm back, incase I fall off the face the earth again. I figured I would signup for a couple of reading challenges this year, and maybe I will get back into the swing of things. Here's hoping.

The first story I finished this year is Half Life by Jillian Cantor. Of course I would have picked this as an audiobook. Let's get into this: This a fictional story about Marie Currie had she taken a different path instead of becoming a renowned scientist. However, the author decided to write it as parallel timelines. One of the timelines was her life story as it happened or at least most of it. There are some creative liberties, after all this is a story. The other timeline had her staying in Poland and living a life with love of her youth, and of course changing the course of history.

Absolutely interesting to take of a persons life and think of the possibilities of the changes that could have happen. The story made me think of the movie Sliding Doors starting Gwyneth Paltrow. I don't remember much about the movie except the parallel timelines. So, in the book you have that going on flip flopping from France to Poland.

I'm glad I decided to go with the audio version of the story, because I'm not sure I would have continued with the book. The narrator did an amazing job with the story. When I decided to start this book was late at night and I did fell asleep a couple of times trying to listen. I had to restart a couple of times, before I figure I need to listen while in the car. Once I was invested in the story I couldn't stop listening, because I had to know how the author was going to take this story. Some of the parts of the Poland line was a bit cliché. Even before it got to that part I had the feeling it was going to happen. Even with my bumpy started I absolutely enjoyed the story, and I was a captive audience. If you are a fan of historical stories and parallel time lines this might be your cup of tea.

Rating: 4.5 (Would have been 5 had I not fell asleep a couple of times)
