I would like to welcome Annie Seaton the author of Italian Affair to What I’m Reading.
How are you today Annie?
I’m really good, thank you. You’ve caught me in the middle
of a fabulous vacation (and researching a future book) in outback Australia!
So, can you tell us a little about Italian Affair?
Italian Affair is the story of two absolutes opposite
personalities who find themselves married within a week or two of meeting. The
story follows their journey as each of them changes and realizes that this love
may just be for real. I loved writing it and fell in love with both of my
characters! It still makes me cry when I read it and I know what happens in the
end!
As a reader I’m a huge fan of marriage of convenience
stories, I was wonder why you wrote a story about a marriage of convenience
story?
Tom, the hero in Italian Affair is such a complex character,
I realized he wasn’t going to be able to find his Happily Ever After through
the development of a traditional romance. So I put him in a situation with a
delightful heroine where he was challenged every step of the way. I loved
seeing his character develop and sseing him fall in love.
What is your favorite trope to write?
Marriage of convenience is top of the list at the moment…but
I love writing stories with very strong heroines so that really can invoke a
variety of tropes
How would your characters describe each other?
Now that is a great question.
Brianna actually calls Tomas a ‘pompous prick’ early on in
the story and Tom sees Brianna as a complete scatterbrain.
What makes Brianna and Tomas special to you?
They are both characters with flaws and are vulnerable,
although each would be the last to admit that!
Where did you come up with the idea of Brianna a sex therapist,
which is certainly not a come profession?
Brianna started off as a clinical psychologist and she loved
stringing Tom along in the early part of the book. She shocks him on a number
of occasions… but by the time he finds out she is a sex therapist, he knows her
very well and is past being surprised.
What is your favorite thing about writing?
I love the way my characters develop. I am an absolute
panster and my characters take me places I never planned for them to go!
Who are your go to authors that you love to read?
Nora Roberts is a favorite, Essie Summers… who wrote romances many years ago and whose books I still re-read today. Inara Scott and
Rachel Lyndhurst(fellow Entangled authors) are fabulous contemporary romance authors
All right last question, if you were to write your own
autobiography what would your title be and why?
Driven and Determined…. Because I was determined to succeed
from the first day I began writing and I have the ability to stay very focused.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to stop by and
is there anything you would like to say before you leave us today?
Thanks so much for having me. I hope you all love Italian
Affair as much as I do… and there is another one to look forward to. Outback
Affair… the final book in the series will be out later this year!
